Jeff Smith61,766Welcome to The Selfie Sunday Project for April 5, 2015 We are back! First thing you may notice is "Selfy" has become "Selfie", just a change to keep up with the more recognized spelling of selfie. A general theme for this week is *New Beginnings* , it's Spring and Selfie Sunday has returned so it seems to fit. If you can't stick to the theme no worries either, since we are freshly back and running any selfie you take is fine.  Please read this post for the guidelines and FAQ for Selfie Sunday. http://goo.gl/SKnkZ8 Your photo can be taken from Mar. 30/15 before the event up until 8:00 AM EDT Monday Apr. 6/15. Older photos posted will be removed from the event. Please only post one photo to the event and that photo should ideally be taken the weekend or the week prior to the event. Olav “ᚢᛚᚹ” Folland39,873So, my employer owns a cabin in the Truckee area, and believe it or not in the twelve-ish years I've never actually used it.  What better way to kick it off with a photowalk in the mountains?   I can't promise snow, but it's the shoulder season so either way it shouldn't be very crowded.  It also doesn't look like the Kings fire will affect the area so there should be plenty of scenery along the way. We can accommodate 15 people, maybe 20 if folks are willing to bring their sleeping bags.   Lodging in the cabin is *free*, and there are also hotels in the area for those that would rather have more creature comforts.   Either way, it should be an awesome time.  I'm not super familiar with the Donner/Truckee area to be honest, but we're researching and also hoping to crowdsource some venues as well. I'm generally inviting my "North Bay Photowalks" circle, but feel free to invite anyone else as well.  Cabin space is first come, first served however. edit:  This is timed to coincide with the full moon (which is on Thursday) so not so good for star trails, but fun for night-time landscapesLet's go to the Mountains!2014-11-07 12:00:005

Megan McGuire2,833Get excited for the  G+ 2 year anniversary photowalk!. For the Sacramento photo walk we are starting outside of the Railroad museum located in Old Sac. We will work our way around this charming old west styled area for a for a couple of hours. Then we will most likely grab some refreshments around lunch time and discuss as a group if we would like to go into the  RR museum, head toward the capitol where we can shoot both inside and out, explore some more of old Sac, or decide we're too tired to go on.  Please send this along to anyone else you think would be interested.  Pack sunblock and water, it's going to be a hot one Saturday!G+ 2 Year Anniversary Photowalk Sacramento2013-06-29 19:00:009

I know it's on the late side, but I have to get this off my chest.

I'm posting this with the hopes that I can convince people to never click a Daily Beast article ever again. Their actions weren't just amoral, or immoral, even. Their actions were reprehensible and have put people's lives at risk.

The short of it is, the author of the now-deleted article was trying to do a piece on sexytime at the Olympics, and Tinder wasn't working well enough, so he thought that using Grindr to lure (often closeted) gay athletes into the open was a marvelous idea. And The Daily Beast agreed, and posted the story.

In the US, "outing" someone can ruin families, cost jobs, and end up with people being ostracized.

Outside the US, people get ostracized, put in jail (sometimes their families too) and in some cases are sent to their deaths - if not... more »

+kat Folland (his step-mom) and I got to watch The Boy get his Eagle rank today. He came in just under the wire, but I couldn't be more proud. Maybe 5% of Boy Scouts ever pull this off.

This is six years of a teenager doing all the work. As parents, we can encourage, get him to meetings (sometimes with a little prodding lol) but beyond that, he had to want it, and he had to earn it. And he did come in under the wire, but he did it, through dedication, hard work, and civic duty. He truly is a better man than I.

(this is not a conversation about the BSA. I might agree with you, but somewhere else, please.)

Maybe someone can help me remember the name of this ecosphere. It's grassy meadows and birch trees and stuff.

Anyhow, four hour drive today, most of it at 15mph on dirt road (to keep the dust down, because I'm not that much of an asshole). Went from PNW rainforest to spruce (?) and ferns to this and back. Neat stuff.

*This guy should be our next President* He's running as a write-in for this November.

You can read his positions here - http://andy2016.com/ but the crux is that as a child, his dad was part of a secret government project that was experimenting with teleportation and time travel based on Tesla's "lost" papers, which actually ended up at Los Alamos.

As a result, he became part of the experiment due to five solid reasons (which you'll have to watch the video to try and figure out) and now wants to force the government to make teleportation available to all of us.

Not time travel tho, and I understand - it would wreak havoc on society. Even though he has time traveled, and there's a photo of him at Lincoln's Gettysburg address to prove it (he's the 70's hipster in the middle of the photo, if you can't tell)... more »

But, there's a narrow band between a therapeutic dose and toxicity. Also, side effects. Looking at the expansion rates of the Universe, hyperthyroidism can't be ruled out.

So, I have a Brownie Model 2 (pretty sure it's not a 2A) and the shutter seems to work flawlessly, along with the tabs and winding mechanism. No evidence of light leakage, and it came with a take-up spool.

I'm heading out of town next weekend, and am thinking about running a spool of ASA50 through it. Any tips? I'm particularly concerned about getting the film advancement right.

The short of it is, the author of the now-deleted article was trying to do a piece on sexytime at the Olympics, and Tinder wasn't working well enough, so he thought that using Grindr to lure (often closeted) gay athletes into the open was a marvelous idea. There have been several "political realignments" in the US over the years, primarily political parties flip-flopping sides from major events and changes in society. Sometimes, it's out with the old and in with the new though.

Right now, we have one party where the leadership is rapidly slipping into democratic socialism, and the other so completely fractured that it's imploding.

Never has the time been so right to shake things up again. It just takes the courage to buck the "system" and decide that we really do need change.

The idea of Obama being the next Supreme Court Justice is going around again. I hope that people will step back for a second and, regardless of what they think about Obama, consider how horrible an idea it is that the former head of the executive branch should become one of the nine people that head the judicial branch. We have a tripod that holds up the Federal Government, and the head of one should never, ever, have that sort of power in any other leg. Intentional or not, the potential for influence is too great.

POTUS particularly. Once a President has had their 4, 8, whatever run, they've been the titular head of our country, and any other public office would throw any modicum of balance of power straight out the window. They hit the apex and need to retire to their $500K speaking deals or whatever.

Edit - Someone pointed out that Obama would ethically have to recuse... more »

Edit - Someone pointed out that Obama would ethically have to recuse himself from damn near everything.

Wheel House Gin is an excellent example of an American Dry Bathtub Gin. It's distilled at the edge of the Gold Country in California, but it hearkens back to the best stills in the Tennessee Hills.

It's remarkably smooth, and holds a tonic pretty well. Slightly fruity, and without the usual antifreeze undertones, which is rather refreshing. It has a delightful finish with just the right amount of turpentine flavor. One can tell that no expense was spared here.

I can only give it 3/5 stars though, because at $29/750ml it's way overpriced for the usual hobo market.

I admit it. I'm a +Google Maps review addict. I've gone three different places for lunch this week just so I can try their stuff and write a review.

Damned good cheesesteak tho.
