Taking in the sunset over the Gold Coast. The best thing photography has given me is the desire to get outside and explore. Looking at life through a lens has helped me see and appreciate the intricate beauty of the natural world. Hope you guys make it out somewhere new this weekend!

the Gully

Water pours down the gully. Right beside the Waimea canyon, with just a road and a few feet separating this from the canyon. The red earth suggests tremendous iron content. The canyon, a few feet behind me as I captured this image is also red. The lava is rusty.

I hope this photo entertains and pleases you, that it adds to your day.

Foams are examples of dispersed media. In general, gas is present in large amount so it will be divided into gas bubbles of many different sizes (the material is polydisperse) separated by liquid regions which may form films, thinner and thinner when the liquid phase is drained out of the system films. When the principal scale is small, i.e. for a very fine foam, this dispersed medium can be considered as a type of colloid

Lavdate Dominvm!
Martyrs Basilica (Lisbon, Portugal) — X of XI
another series that commands full screen view

This is virtually the money shot. The one that showcases both organ and ceiling in their mutually supportive glory. Shot from a spot not open to the general public, this perspective is rarely seen (much like the previous ones, really), but it is the one I find more striking, inside Basilica dos Mártires, for its two foremost pieces of art.

And can you imagine Lavdate Dominvm played on that pipe organ? I’m sure it would sound fantastic! For those (two?) of you that know what I’m talking about… happy, happy Helloween!

Few words are needed for this series. Same pointers as with last one: it’s my personal style — unapologetically so and regardless of anyone’s like or dislike of the fact. As always, I capture the entire dynamic range of the scene, and edit to my heart’s content to realize my particular vision for the photograph. Exactly as I achieve these two is a matter of personal preference(s), the details of which are best kept under the lock and key that such concoctions command.

The Black Hills of South Dakota were made for sculpting.
Jagged granite spires combined with rolling hills create a beautiful landscape of mountains dotting the land.

Two of the most iconic monuments of the United States are located in the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial.

In three-dimensional space, a Platonic solid is a regular, convex polyhedron. It is constructed by congruent regular polygonal faces with the same number of faces meeting at each vertex. Five solids meet those criteria, and each is named after its number of faces

This was in contrast to cattle, which then meant any sort of domestic livestock that was easy to collect and remove from the land, from the idea of personal-property ownership (rather than real estate property) and related to modern chattel (property) and capital. Cognates of Old English dēor in other dead Germanic languages have the general sense of "animal", such as Old High German tior, Old Norse djur or dȳr, Gothic dius, Old Saxon dier, and Old Frisian diar

This general sense gave way to the modern English sense by the end of the Middle English period, around 1500. However, all modern Germanic languages save English and Scots retain the more general sense: for example, German Tier, Alemannic Diere or Tiere, Pennsylvania Dutch Gedier, Dutch dier, Afrikaans dier, Limburgish diere, Norwegian dyr, Swedish djur, Danish dyr, Icelandic dýr, Faroese dýr, West Frisian dier, and North Frisian diarten, all of which mean "animal". (However, contrary to south European languages, Dama in Latin and daim in French mean "fallow deer" only)

For most types of deer in modern English usage, the male is called a "buck" and the female is termed a "doe", but the terms vary with dialect, and especially according to the size of the species. For many larger deer, the male is termed a "stag", while for other larger deer the same words are used as for cattle: "bull" and "cow". The male red deer is a "hart", especially if more than five years old, and the female is a "hind", especially if three or more years old; both terms can also be used for any species of deer, and were widely so used in the past. Terms for young deer vary similarly, with that of most smaller species being called a "fawn" and that of most larger species "calf"; young of the smallest kinds may be a kid. A castrated male deer is a "havier". A group of deer of any kind is a "herd". The adjective of relation pertaining to deer is cervine; like the family name "Cervidae", this is from Latin: cervus, "deer"

Organ-izing.
Martyrs Basilica (Lisbon, Portugal) — VIII of XI
another series that commands full screen view

The pipe organ of Basilica dos Mártires is a sight to behold. Built by the Royal Organ Maker (who also made several others for the rebuild of the temples devastated by the 1755 earthquake) — including the engravings in the wood below the pipes, this is surely the most striking element of the Basilica.

When put into a composition with the ceiling, this is undoubtedly one of the visually most amazing temples in the city.

The Golden ratio is cool and everywhere (yes EV-REY-WHERE O_o ... o_O ... O_o)!

The Golden Ratio is a special irrational constant that can be observed across all levels of the universe, and so it has been nicknamed "God's Fingerprint". The ratio itself is about 1.618 or -0.382 based upon its definition: Phi = (1 + sqrt(5))/2 and phi = (1 - sqrt(5))/2

There is also the Golden Angle which is most commonly seen in plants, but can also be seen in the spiraling arms in galaxies. The Golden Angle is 137.5 degrees.

The Golden Ratio is most associated with the Fibonacci Numbers.

Dubai. The name has almost become shorthand for a certain type of lifestyle: an oasis of top-notch hotels, world-renowned restaurants and frankly bizarre attractions, all in the middle of the desert. Not a city to rest on its laurels, the Emirati powerhouse is constantly thrusting forwards and there is always something new to see. So, where to start?

Here is our guide to the top ten things to see and do in Dubai.

The desert is on the doorstep in Dubai and there are few better experiences than bashing through its sands in a 4x4. You can also take a camel ride, surf the dunes on a board and feast on barbecue under the stars. Sit still for a moment to enjoy the absolute silence of the desert.___

Even the infrastructure that supports the event is being powered by renewable energy where possible. In London last month the safety cars were powered by batteries linked to 26 solar panels, which were also used to run the race’s TV screens and ticket scanners.

The Show at Crater Lake
Photograph by Keith Marsh, National Geographic Your Shot

Specializing for the past four years in what he calls astrophotographic landscapes, Your Shot member Keith Marsh has captured the Milky Way in locations from Alaska to Cuba. He photographed Oregon’s Crater Lake looking south from the north rim, where the Milky Way is brightest. “I also wanted to have something in the foreground for additional interest and spent several hours during the day searching for just the right spot,” he writes. “As it turned out, this old dead tree is very popular with photographers, and over a period of several hours there were as many as 20 photographers huddled in this same spot.” The lights on the horizon are from Klamath Falls, Oregon, about 60 miles away.

Here's one of my favorite new photos from Dubai...  I was SO tired this night.  Not long after this, I just went back to the hotel and went to sleep... and I had visions of a long night of photography and partying!  I ended up being lame dot com.

Check it out as Kevin Libertowski pulls off an amazing trampoline trick shot involving multiple flips and basketballs! How many attempts do you think this took to pull off? We're guessing one!
