Paige Keaton57,548In memory of +Dirk Talamasca I am sharing a circle of friends from G+ I have shoved into a circle named. People Worth Keeping. As he was really into getting people connected. This circle is 700 people deep and it only shares 500. I need to split this in 2 and share all of you lovelies.. Dirk was a bad ass. He was what G+ was all about. Enjoyed many hours online during Beta with him. Really sucks when people die on here.   #RIPDIRKTALAMASCA   #shareyourpeople  2014-03-31 01:45:085017137

Quick Survey - I was driving to work this morning and heard the Steve Miller Band's song "Jet Airliner".  It reminded me of when someone told me that their favorite misheard lyric for that song was, "He bailed hay on a rhino."  Hehe.

So what are some other funny misheard lyrics do you  have?

=p

Mine include: "Island of seals" (misheard from the Go Go's "Our lips are sealed"), "There a bathroom on the right" and "Looks like we're in for mashed potatoes" (misheard from Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Bad Moon Rising" and all the many misheard variations of Manfred Mann's version of "Blinded by the Light".  LMAO.

Tiny Tip - Here’s a tip from the creativity files.

When I was first learning to drive a car, I was instructed to always perform three steps before starting the engine.  The first was to adjust our seat.  Then we were to put on our seat belt   Finally, we were to adjust our mirrors.  Doing this repeatedly, the steps became part of my procedural memory or muscle memory.  So now, the actions have become automatic.

Procedural memory training can benefit your creative process as well.  By repeating certain actions, such as going for a walk followed by reading emails before a creative activity, may allow your brain to associate that action sequence as a trigger.  Then when you want to “start your creativity engine”, you need only to start the sequence and the procedural memory will help your reach that creative spot.

What are some types ofcreativity ritua... more »

Random Thought - It's been over a year since I remember doing my Google+ Word Cloud, so I've decided to give it another go.

Some strange things have happened since the last time I ran this too.  For one, the word “you” is no longer the most used word.

"My” took center stage once again.  My, oh my.  I really wanted this to be about all of you too.

Of the words I’m happy about growing, I love that “thought”, "think", and “life” are still going strong.  And finally "Random" is on the cloud.  So let’s see what happens in a few months from now.

Music Monday - Norman Greenbaum - Spirit in the Sky

“Spirit in the Sky” is a song written and recorded by Norman Greenbaum.  The song was originally released in 1969.

Norman Greenbaum is an American singer-songwriter.  He was born in Maiden, Massachusetts, U.S.A.

This song is a very uplifting one.  The guitar rift at the beginning immediately draws me in and I find it very hard not to move my head to the beat from that point on.  As for the lyrics, well...it's kind of comforting to think that when I die, there's always something more.  But that doesn't mean I shouldn't live my life to the fullest while I'm here though.

A long while ago, maybe even a year ago,  +Robin Burks had mentioned in her circles how great the Arrow television series was.

At first, I was really reluctant to watch it.  But I must say, she was absolutely right.  I've truly enjoyed the stories and characters.  I look forward to seeing more in the future.

Thanks Ms. Burks for being the first to let me know about the show.

Daily Life - 8 May 2013 –

I encountered an interesting gentleman this morning.  This man was playing the accordion and requesting money for some charity that I honestly didn’t look closely at when I gave my dollar.  He and I started talking about languages, and I learned that he could speak a little bit of at least 53 different languages.

I’m not sure why, but the question of what language he dreams in came up.  This got me to think, do we even dream in languages?  If we spoke fluently in multiple languages, what language would we actually dream in?  Do the parts of our brain that decodes languages work when we dream, or do we just understand because it is a dream?  Maybe what I think is language, isn’t really language at all.

In Other Words - “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.” ~ Abraham Lincoln (1809 – 1855)

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States.  He was a lawyer, a political leader, and legislator.  Mr. Lincoln was known for many things, including the Lincoln-Douglas debates on 1858, being president during the American Civil War, and his work involving the emancipation of slaves.

In such a turbulent time in American history, I feel that Mr. Lincoln truly showed his character as a leader, and not as a tyrant. There are individuals in our lives that can be extremely frustrating.  They may be an ex-spouse trying to use your children as leverage during your divorce hearings.  They may be a sibling that constantly belittles you in front of your friends.  Or even that annoying person at the movie theater that neglects to turn off their cellphone, even after the numerous messages, warnings, and reminders on the screen beforehand.  Sadly, and yet thankfully, these are exceptionally individuals.  Most people you will find are pretty much like everyone else when it comes to the larger picture.  I feel that we all struggle to find that special place in this world, so we can say, “Yes.  I belong.”  Granted, it’s very hard to ignore those people that know how to push our buttons—those upsetting individuals that have wronged us.  I mean, finding even a little dirt in your oyster can make the whole plate of them seem horrible.  But it doesn’t mean there will be dirt in the other oysters.  And know that under different circumstances, that dirt may have become a pearl instead.

Tiny Tip - Vacation souvenirs are great, but sometimes they can become quite expensive.  So to remember my journeys, I prefer making a trip journal (physical or electronic) instead.  Not only is it usually cheaper, but engaging at the same time.

Look for interesting and memorable moments and capture them with photos or with words.  Collect business cards and signatures from people that you have interacted with.  Add businesses brochures and take-home menus from places that you have visited.

Tiny Tip - Today, one of my friends asked what I suggested for congestion.  Here is the tip that I offered.

Place boiling water in a basin.  Cover you head and inhale the steam that comes off.  Adding essential oils like lavender, peppermint, or eucalyptus may help.  The oils make the room smell nice at any rate.  Hehe.  Drinking chamomile tea can be helpful with congestion, as does using “ginger tea”.  Don’t forget to gargle several times with warm salty water.

I personally think that coughing is good.  It means that the phlegm is breaking up.

I’m very much a victim of my own procrastination.  It’s very easy just to avoid taking action.  Often, we disguise our inactivity with the mask of “planning”.  How many times of you sat in a meeting where everyone just makes plans?  No action items get drafted?  No one is assigned tasks?  Now imagine what we can do as a group or as individuals, if we just started taking action.  We can look at Mr. Jefferson, see what he had accomplished, and know that we are capable of doing so much more with our lives.

I found Mr. Murrow’s statement to be wonderfully truthful, especially in this age of heightened information.  Enormous amounts of data are available at our fingertips and smartphones.  Eventually, it will probably just be downloaded directly into our minds through wireless networks. And because of this, it is extremely important that you can rely on your information sources.  But know that even reliable sources can make a mistake or be misunderstood.  That said, there are some information sources that are just plan deceptive.  So for me, discussion is a key part of any learning.  Challenge the facts and don’t be upset when other’s challenge you on yours.  Communicate your ideas in as many ways possible.  And most of all, try to be truthful.

Paul's Pantry - This weekend I had shabu-shabu at my mother’s.  Shabu-shabu is a Japanese dish based on a Chinese meal called shuan yang rou.  It is named after the sound that the ingredients make boiling in the cooking pot.  Often these ingredients are brought to the table with the serving pot.

Shabu-shabu was reportedly introduced in Osaka by the restaurant called Suehiro.  Though other meats can be used, most often you will find thinly cut rib eye steak used, which is served along with tofu and vegetables such as Chinese cabbage and shitake mushrooms.  The cooked items typically are dipped into a sauce such as Ponzu before being eaten.  The broth in the pot afterwards is then poured into your rice bowl and eaten like a soup.

The song tells of the barmaid named Brandy, who is adored by all the sailors at her port town bar.  She is unable to return their love, however, because she deeply loves another—a sailor who had given her a braided chain (with a locket that has her name).  Sadly, her man is unable to commit further to his relationship with Brandy, because he tells her that his true passion and love is and always will be the sea.

It is rumored that the song was inspired by a spinster from New Brunswick, New Jersey, named Mary Ellis, who met and fell in love with a sea captain who promised they would wed on his return.  Every day, Ms. Ellis would ride the captain’s horse to the river, hoping for her lover’s return, which never came.

To show you just how influential music can be; the U.S. Social Security office reported that Brandy was the 354rd most popular name the year before the song’s release.  It became the 82nd most popular a year following it.
