|G+ with Brushes||1,928||As I am returning to my regular second-half-of-week shift on +G+ with Brushes , I once again re-share our artists' circle, now 93 people strong. This is the circle where we look for paintings and drawings to share. Please, if you are an artist working in traditional (non-digital) media, and you are not in this circle, and you do want your work to be occasionally re-shared on our page, do the following:1. Add the page to your circles, if you haven't already (it's not because we want to pump up our followers' numbers, but just because we cannot add to a circle anyone who hasn't added us first).2. Tell us that you are an artist and want to be in this circle, so that we don't miss you.3. That's it, basically, but if you feel like it, you might also spread the word about our page to your followers... :)Yours truly,+Lena Levin||2012-10-18 18:00:12||93||6||4||6||CC G+|

If you are a painter, work with a pigment, and if you have added me but I have left you out of this circle, please let me know.I also have an "Artist" circle for non pigment artists (charcoal, pen/ink, sculpture or 3D art, etc). I will share that soon. Again, if you have circled me and I have not added you, please let me know on that posting.||2012-09-30 21:23:31||430||3||3||6||CC G+|

|Karine Freymann||5,902||Painters under spotlightAll of them fill my stream almost daily with artworks, all of them share their work publicly, which demands courage to be confronted to critique...and we all know how it can be hard. They're passionate and I have an infinite respect for people who create. They all have different styles but all of them express feelings, ideas...and put them on canvas for you to have a read. Enjoy and be respectful! If by mistake, you're not in that circle and feel you belong to it, say the word and I will make my best to include you for the next circle share.||2012-09-13 06:25:14||146||7||5||4||CC G+|

Sorry! :)At nearly 1000, my art circle is bursting at the seams. It's too big to share on it's own anymore, so I thought I'd break it down into several smaller circles, to share over a period of days. These people fill my streams with visual imagery, sometimes beautiful, experimental, evocative... each one has a unique perspective and practice. Most of these people are painters, drawers, illustrators, sculptors, etc. (I generally keep my photogs in a separate circle, with a few exceptions, for good measure. So yes, this circle is a different beast.)The desire to connect with other artists is what brought me to G+, and it is a huge part of why I am still here.**************************************************************************A note about this circle, and my sharing it.Every time I share a circle, I get a backlash of anger from people that are not in it. Honestly, it is to the point that I rarely share circles. Please know that this circle is not all of the artists that you should be following here on Google+, it is simply the artists that I follow. I have chosen them for personal reasons, and enjoy following each of them. I am sharing them because I believe that you may also enjoy following them. This circle reflects my choices, of whom to follow, please be respectful of that. If you are an artist, and not in my circles, please feel free to say hi and let me know in the comments, so that I can mosey on over to your profile and see your work! #art #creativity #sharedcircles||2012-08-20 15:36:15||79||25||1||16||CC G+|

Here is Revision II –– fresh and ready to be shared. If YOU want to be included in the VAC, let me know in the comments. I have one condition though (if you want to be included) –– the obvious ones such as as good artwork in your feed set aside –– and that is that you reshare this post in your feed to spread the word. No reshare, no inclusion. :)This circle is undergoing changes all the time –– some people will be lifted out, new ones will be added –– and if you want yourself removed from the circle, just drop me a line.Next reshare of the Visual Artists Circle will be end of next week. Now, enjoy all the great artists... :) #CircleShare||2012-04-03 13:35:03||494||123||72||47||CC G+|

This circle is full of great filmmakers, people working on their feature films, writers, composers, actors, well... just about everything a film needs to be done. They are even critics in here!Comment if you want to be a part of this great circle, and also if you have a short or feature film you want to share, take a look at this site I made. Might be helpful for any director/producer out there: https://plus.google.com/113697321006268463858||2012-04-03 01:18:07||500||1||7||2||CC G+|

It contains lots of people in the filmmaking business (independent or from the industry), that includes from writers, directors and editors to music composers, producers and critics. If you love film as an art or like making movies/videos, this circle is certainly for you! Also, I added a page here I made called "Filmmakers of Google+". The goal with that page is to share all new films/projects that the community of google+ is working on. It has been some time since I started this circle and I now feel that it's complete enough to share the "full" version for the first time. ☼ Daily Fine Art Themes™ artists circle V 1.0 next version open for nominations !!Lately many circles have been shared by the photography community but artists have not been as active in "Sharing the G+ love." So +Daily Fine Art Themes in conjunction with the Fine Art Theme sponsors would like to share the love of art with you.Artists don't need to contribute to the Daily Fine Art Themes™ to be included but we hope that they will add the DFAT™ page and share their art with us. For more information about the Daily Fine Art Themes™ see the about section of the page.OK - let us know who should be in this circle of G+ artists for the next version ?Nominated names will be verified so artists suggested for the circle should be active on G+, their about page should discuss their art, and their stream should be oriented primarily towards art. Arbitrary rules:• If their stream has little or no original art, they are unlikely to be included• There is no set number of people that will be added before releasing another version• If there are animated gifs in their stream they won't be included, period.• Both 2D and 3D artists can be recommended for the circle.• It's easier to keep track of names if you put each name on a separate line• Let us know the genre of art and why you have nominated them.• Refrain from nominating yourself, but we'll probably look anyway. :-))OK, let's keep this circle moving along, "nominate" the artists that you think we should add, and most all let's share the G+ love.◊Collapse this post||2012-02-16 12:46:01||199||89||47||27||CC G+|

I love painting big mountains the best. I love geology and the way rocks were formed on the earth and I love color, so this is my life work. I am painting a lot of spring color right now, but soon when the high roads open in Yosemite, I'll be back to painting rocks as I know them. Happy Easter everyone! www.pennyotwell.com

Story - when I first came to Yosemite in early '60's I was invited to the Round House in the Indian Garden for a special all-night dance by the local Native people who lived here. I'll never forget it, and this painting keeps my memory alive. Drumming, dancing, full costumes, and drifting in and out of sleep, getting hassled by "coyote," all followed by a wonderful feast. And a bear! This rich memory is alive in this personal piece which is 36"x36", acrylic/c. Wanted to share.

Yosemite Renaissance XXIX awarded my ink drawing, "Douglas Fir Grove" one of the cash awards at the opening ceremony last Friday in Yosemite Valley. I am pleased because I continue to draw -- and there will be a new series on Yosemite Valley this summer presented as finished pieces. Beneath most of my oil paintings, a similar drawing is constructed before the paint is put down. Drawing is the essence of a place.

This is a plein aire painting done in Leidig Meadow in Yosemite Valley Feb. 20. The day started out quite warm, but then the wind came up and tossed this 24"x36" linen canvas off the easel several times, once upside down! But I persisted. Tweaked some in the studio. The cottonwoods along the river looked pink-gray with pine forest behind them. Turned cold after that, but I'm grateful because it's still February. No snow. Dry California expects storms mid-week, but they are so late.

I did this painting some years ago at Mono Lake in the Eastern Sierra. This is my "heart" place, this dry high desert landscape filled with sagebrush, incredible sunrises and sunsets, and dramatic steep canyons to hike in. I've been walking here for 55 years. I will be teaching outdoor watercolor for The Mono Lake Committee in Lee Vining this August. Just a little winter morning dream of the eastside today. . . Happy Valentines Day Everyone.

From several wintertime trips, I painted at the coast in watercolor and also on an iPad program called "Brushes1." This is the same app that David Hockney used for his fantastic show at the de Young in San Francisco just closed. I've been using mine for a...

Yosemite Renaissance XXIX has released their selections for the new show and I am thrilled to have the piece above accepted as one of 42 out of 740 entered! It is technically a drawing -- acrylic ink on watercolor paper -- it is not a painting, even though...

Each summer I teach in Tuolumne Meadows and this piece was done at the Dana Fork of the Tuolumne River as a little demo for my class. My heart rests easy in the High Sierra mountains. This painting is a good memory of a great times here.

This past fall I taught a watercolor class in Wawona at the beautiful old Wawona Hotel. We painted and gathered for three days and the fall color was outstanding! This coming Friday, our Yosemite Valley community gathers for an annual bazaar and I bring lots of these watercolors to sell. Everyone is welcome! It's finally cold and snowy in Yosemite - winter has begun!

I was invited for lunch at Anne & Ralph's and meeting some new friends on a lovely fall day. I came to paint their persimmon tree which had so much fruit it could barely stand. My interpretation here was completed en plein air near their ceramic studio, 30x24", oil/linen. Of course, they gave me a lot of these persimmons. I've eaten one a day! Love 'em. Happy Thanksgiving!

This painting has been hanging out in the studio for well over a month and it is still not done. It is full of energy. It's busting to get out, but not yet. Having bouts of vertigo so I paint a little, vertigo a little, rest, and then repeat. It started as a demo for Open Studio and has gone through a lot of evolution. When I'm done with this Big Vertigo Interruption, it will go into the world. Fascinating experience!

Completed this en plein air on Friday in Yosemite Valley - 24x30" oil on linen. The day was warm, full of fall color and beautiful light, and I felt the same -- lite, warm, and happy. Love painting in the fall! I was working this piece at Arch Rock Entrance along Highway 140.

I taught a watercolor class in Wawona this week and was so happy to see the students work on the last day! They loosened up, used large brushes, and used minimal strokes for expressive and fun results. I love teaching and am back in love with Wawona in the fall!

Show time! Solo show at The Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite Valley starts September 15 and runs through Nov. 8, 2013. This last oil painting for ALONG THOSE LINES, THE PAINTINGS OF PENNY OTWELL brings the completed works to 25 new pieces. It's been a push, but a fun one. Most of the pieces are on my website at http://www.pennyotwell.com

I am an oil painter but every once in a while I have to work with watercolor for its beautiful luminosity. I just completed teaching a watercolor class in Yosemite for the Balanced Rock Foundation -- http://balancedrock.org -- We painted along the Tuolumne River and on top of Pothole Dome where my students' work soared! This piece of mine is a full sheet watercolor done last year just north of Bishop, CA. I think switching mediums is a healthy step towards keeping my work and ideas fresh. This week I return to the oil painting easel with new anticipation!

I am working with ink on fine watercolor paper -- large drawings/paintings en plein air. Using black, grey, sepia and a little dash of bright red. Next time, I'll bring removable art tape to hold the paper down in the wind . . . I'll call these originals HIGH COUNTRY FIELD SESSIONS, this being #1. Photograph by +Claudia Welsh

This oil painting was part of a series I did as a benefit for our local Mariposa Arts Council. They were quick. About 30 - 40 minutes each with the prospective buyers watching over my shoulder. All six sold! Some were more successful than others but I'm going to use this technique as "warm up" exercises before I paint in the studio today. I like the fresh brushwork! I will always be a student!

Bato's work shows the lesson of not explaining everything in painting but just enough to let the viewer use her own imagination. His work lifts me very high in the air! Thank you Bato.

Painted in Yosemite Valley, then headed up to Wawona for a change and enjoyed the fields of lupine and the meadow across from the Wawona Hotel. So charming. I'll photograph tonight, and share tomorrow. Happy Mother's Day to all the giving women in your life.

I love painting Yosemite Fall in spring with the snowmelt rushing over the cliff. This piece is from last year, but soon, and when this full rush appears once again, I'll head up to The Valley to do another version. No, I do not tire of painting Yosemite icons! They are always different -- the light, time of day, and even me. Happy St. Patrick's Day to all!

Just returned from the Big South Fork National Recreation Area and the Obed Wild & Scenic River Area as an artist in residence. It was fun being in a new landscape, with lots of history, different trees and forests, and in 12 degree weather! I ended up taking photographs and working from them -- not my preferred style, but I chose this time to travel and be there. Huge hardwood forests, sandstone cliffs, snow, wood ladders and stairs on trails, and a warm welcome from people who have lived their entire lives in these hills. I am grateful for the experience to paint here but happy to be back in warmer climes!

This was a demo I did this past Saturday for Yosemite Western Artists -- it's oil on canvas, Granite Memory, 18x24". Sold. Focus was on using transparent paint next to opaque paint that I'm finding is a knockout combination! Have a great week.

A trip to the Merced Wildlife Refuge with +Michael Frye and +Claudia Welsh in the early hours was magical. This has become a Thanksgiving ritual and I was not disappointed as this photo reveals one of the Great Blue Herons observed. The snow geese and sandhill cranes are gathering in numbers and I am hopeful to return and paint here after the holidays.
