Lotus Carroll1,778,021This is the Event for our September 2013 Self Portrait Challenge: A Great Cell Phone Photo. Just because you use a cell phone doesn't mean your self portrait has to be of the "facebook style" mobile or reflection variety. That little guy has a camera inside it, so treat it like one! Here is where you enter your ONE Self Portrait using only a cell phone to capture and process (no computer software post processing!). Your photo must have been captured this month. This Event remains open until 11:59 CST September 30th, so you have until then to create and enter your best photo from this month. Please read all rules (scroll down). Not adhering to rules will get you disqualified. *Tutorial & Tips* Need some tips and inspiration for this challenge? Have no fear! That's why we're here. :) The amazing @110573952887886961621 made a tutorial about shooting cell phone photos to get you inspired - see it here: http://goo.gl/z3IZ23 He also posted a video of his process - see it here: http://goo.gl/vzcRHL *Remember these Do's and Don'ts to get the best photo:* *DO take the time to set up your shot thoughtfully. *DO invest time and effort and try more than once to get it right. *DO make sure your lens is clean. *DO take your photo in adequate light so it's not grainy, blurry, or dark. *DO put the cell phone down and use a timer - stop taking all your photos by holding the phone and pointing at yourself or a mirror. *DO try different angles for the best composition. *DO read the posts in our Tutorials Category and try the concepts and ideas you learn from them: http://goo.gl/uSUULE  *DO try different apps and see what works best for you. *DO be aware of your background! It makes a huge difference! Is there junk in the room behind you? If yes, it's not a good place to shoot. ETC. *DO NOT just slap a filter or cheesy effect on and call it a day - take the time to try different edits and pay attention to the elements of your photo.  *DO NOT point your phone at a mirror and take a reflection photo where we can see your phone. *DO NOT have your arms in the photo as you're holding the phone out in front of or above you. *DO NOT duckface. *DO NOT showcase your cleavage as the main subject. *Here's a list of Photo Apps you can try out:* Snapseed VSCOcam Retouch (cloning tool!) Life

If you live long enough, you'll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you'll be a better person. It's how you handle adversity, not how it affects you. The main thing is never quit, never quit, never quit.

––William J. Clinton

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Reflections

Men seek for vocabularies that are reflections of reality. To this end, they must develop vocabularies that are selections of reality. And any selection of reality must, in certain circumstances, function as a deflection of reality.

Wild

“We need the tonic of wildness...At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.”

― Henry David Thoreau

Have a great day everybody! :)

Due to the troubles caused by the civil war known as the Count's Feud (Danish: Grevens fejde), general civil unrest, and a civil war introducing the Protestant Reformation, most Danish noblemen built their homes as fortifications. The castle is constructed on oaken piles and located in a small lake with a maximum depth of 5 metres (16 ft). Originally, the only access was by means of a drawbridge. According to legend, it took an entire forest of oak trees to build the foundation, hence the name Egeskov (oak forest).___

Chaos magic is the idea that a particular set of beliefs serves as an active force in the world. In other words, we choose what and how we believe, and our beliefs are tools that we then use to make things happen... or not.

When the audience enjoys your performance, you feel like a magician who is doing magic. It's a great feeling!

––Kailash Kher

Taken with my Pentax K-7 one cold December evening in Oxelösund, Sweden. The light was just about perfect and we had great fun despite the freezing sea winds whipping our faces. The editing is an old school black & white simulation (underexposed) and then I hand colored it using various brushes in Photoshop.

Taken with my Pentax K-7 one cold December evening in Oxelösund, Sweden. The light was just about perfect and we had great fun despite the freezing sea winds whipping our faces. The editing is an old school black & white simulation (underexposed) and then I hand colored it using various brushes in Photoshop.___

Night Flight

I always liked the magic of poetry but now I'm just starting to see behind the curtain of even the best poets, how they've used, tried and tested craft to create the illusion. Wonderful feeling of exhilaration to finally be there.

Tranquility

I'm in love with red. I think it's such a passionate color. Every flag of every country pretty much has red it it. It's power, there's no fence sitting with red. Either you love it or you don't. I think its blood and strength and life. I do love red. I love all colors. Great shades of blue, you find them in nature. They're all magic.

In The Mood

There is no one magic move or secret that creates victory, but lots of little items that when added together can make you victorious.

––Bill Toomey

I feel the same about pictures. Adding elements to an image can, if done right, make it better. Editing with a sense for light and the true intentions of nature itself is not faking it but rather paying homage to God and his creations.

Misty Magic

I combine magic and science to create illusions. I work with new media and interactive technologies, things like artificial intelligence or computer vision, and integrate them in my magic.

––Marco Tempest

That's the way I work with my images. Sometimes I create illusions, sometimes I just let my camera capture the magic of pure reality.

In The Desert Sun

I have always loved the desert. One sits down on a desert sand dune, sees nothing, hears nothing. Yet through the silence something throbs, and gleams...

Into The Light

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they

By The Pier

The coastline I walk, I walk not alone.
Solitary strolls, I do not condone.
I'd rather walk, hand in hand,
With you my love, upon the sand.

The pier we see reaching out
Into the ocean, gives no doubt
Of our love's walk off into the sea
Where we drown in the depths of our eternity.

Let not the waves disrupt our affection.
Wake in the comfort of our perfection.
Though gulls will call and sandcastles fall,
You will remain my all in all.

Dreams of the Ocean

Not the final breaker, heavy with brine,
that thunders onshore, and creates
the silence of sand, that encircles the world,
but the inner spaces of force,
the naked power of the waters,
the immoveable solitude, brimming with lives.
It is Time perhaps, or the vessel filled
with all motion, pure Oneness,
that death cannot touch, the visceral green
of consuming totality.

Only a salt kiss remains of the drowned arm,
that lifts a spray: a humid scent,
of the damp flower, is left,
from the bodies of men. Your energies
form, in a trickle that is not spent,
form, in retreat into silence.

Carbery Fantasy

Man builds up a castle
With his own hands
He is the creator
Of everything on this land
Then why does he create
A castle so unguarenteed
Into it, he initiates
People because of his greed
Who don't know about the cracks in the castle
About the flaws it has.

It starts to drizzle
The drizzle becomes rain
The rain becomes a violent storm
And then people run in vain.

The castle melts away
With it, it takes away lives
It was the creator's fault
That no one survived
The creator will pay now
For the castle he built in greed
Even when knowing the cracks and faults
Now he will pay for his deeds.

Beauty of Flight

She is thousands of miles
From here, and miles above me,
Ghosting the stratosphere,
Heading from New York to London.
Though it is late, even
At that height, I know her light
Is on, her window a square
Of gold as she reads mysteries
Above the Atlantic. I watch

The line of black tile on the pool’s
Floor, leading me down the lane.
If she looks down by moonlight,
Under a clear sky, she will see
Black water. She will see me
Swimming distantly, moving far
From shore, suspended with her
In flight through the wide gulf
As we swim toward land together.

Shot with my Pentax K-7 a few weeks ago. As I was shooting, I wanted to try a different approach, hence why the moon (and the background) is blurry, and avoid backdrops normally used, such as houses, tree lines etc. My goal was to make the picture to stand out from all the moon shots out there. I used Photoshop CC for the editing –– all manual work, no filters and/or presets.___

In The Morning Mist

Today
I kissed the morning mist
The cold damp seductress
Bathed in soft glow twilight
Wrapped her arms around me
The moon hung askance atwist
Like a hook with a downward list
Beaming screaming bright
But as for radiant beauty
The North Star won the fight
And sparkled like a halogen lamp
Brilliant white
Against the deep blue sky
Which seemed so clear and endless
Who can say that I am friendless

Against the deep blue sky
Which seemed so clear and endless
Who can say that I am friendless

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

Reflections...

She looks in the mirror and sees her reflection
She turns to her friend and gossips for attention
She banters and cantors negativity
But her words are a poisonous activity

The Sun shines as she walks on her way
Beauty is everywhere but her vision is gray
The past is a weight that she cannot drop
Pulling her down relentlessly, it just won't stop

It's time to leave her baggage behind
A new destination awaits in due time
All she needs is peace of mind
And better days will soon be prime

Summer Night Flight

Now sleeps the crimson petal, now the white;
Nor waves the cypress in the palace walk;
Nor winks the gold fin in the porphyry font:
The firefly wakens: waken thou with me.

Now droops the milk-white peacock like a ghost,
And like a ghost she glimmers on to me.

Now lies the Earth all Danaë to the stars,
And all thy heart lies open unto me.

Now slides the silent meteor on, and leaves
A shining furrow, as thy thoughts in me.

Now folds the lily all her sweetness up,
And slips into the bosom of the lake:
So fold thyself, my dearest, thou, and slip
Into my bosom and be lost in me.

Oh, Beautiful Summer Sunrise...

There's always a story. It's all stories, really. The sun coming up every day is a story. Everything's got a story in it. Change the story, change the world.

Summer Fields

I dreamt of the days in the summer fields
With plenty of everything woven to all
Each dream that tomorrow in heart there yields
Before there comes murkiness with the fall
Each song that fervor was dear to employ
Inquiring dawn’s after each twilight
Those feelings that days and reality destroy
When there are no wishing stars falling at night

The squall is at ease that the evening gave
With songs to remember each love from you
And now I am here in my loneliness crave
What went out like blossoms out to the blue?
If again we shall meet and come to understand
It shall be in futures today can’t command

Credits Where Credits Are Due

As most of you who have followed me through the years here on Google+, you know how I feel about not giving credit where credits are due.

Lately I have violated my own rules when doing my composites and people who have taken some of the original photographs which I have used have not been properly credited for their work, thus leaving the impression that I have both taken the pictures and put together the composites.

Some of you also know that I am fighting a serious illness since a few years back, even though I am not going to use that as an excuse. I have mentioned that a few times here on Google+ and I thank you for all your concern. However, as I mentioned before, that's not an excuse, even though it affects my brain.

I have been fighting copyright violation here and elsewhere for years and even started groups here on Google+ as well as having helped others to claim their rights. Now I stand before you and must admit to having missed to credit others in my own work! Not all the time, of course, but enough times for me feeling that I need to write this post. No matter that I only have use STOCK pictures as mentioned openly in my bio here on Google+ and in many of my pictures here.

This is what I am going to do:

I hereby APOLOGiZE publicly to those who I have not credited and if you find that I have used some element in my pictures that belongs to you and I have not credited you properly, leave me a note and I will credit you or, if you wish, take the picture down.

I will check my feed as soon as I can and delete/credit the pictures affected as best as I can. Original photographers deserve to be credited as I wish to be credited when people use my stock photography.

Again, dear fellow artists, I sincerely apologize in this open manner to you who have been affected by my neglect. I also apologize to all of my followers who might have been mislead in some cases. You all have my deepest respect and I hope that you will show me a bit of understanding in my moment of shame.

With all the best regards,

Peter

Reflections

Men seek for vocabularies that are reflections of reality. To this end, they must develop vocabularies that are selections of reality. And any selection of reality must, in certain circumstances, function as a deflection of reality.

Somewhere In The Distance

I lay in my bed and think about you
I love you so much I don't know what to do
I feel your warmth at my side
The pain in my heart moves to my eyes
So far away yet always so near
You are the reason I am still here.

I await the times when we can talk
I await the times we can finally hold hands and walk
To feel you for real... so close to me
The happiest person in the world is what you would make me.

Another Day Says Goodbye...

The last rays of the sun caresses my face and I think of the day that is soon gone. I watch the calmness of the ocean, the colors of the sky, the shapes of the clouds. Soon darkness will descend and bring the night to me but still I have time to view nature in the mirror of water displaying her from its most marvellous side. "How I long for you to rise again!", I whisper to the glowing smiling sun, "It's not goodbye, It's until we meet again...".

Longing

Come to me in my dreams, and then
By day I shall be well again!
For so the night will more than pay
The hopeless longing of the day.

Come, as thou cam'st a thousand times,
A messenger from radiant climes,
And smile on thy new world, and be
As kind to others as to me!

Or, as thou never cam'st in sooth,
Come now, and let me dream it truth,
And part my hair, and kiss my brow,
And say, My love why sufferest thou?

Come to me in my dreams, and then
By day I shall be well again!
For so the night will more than pay
The hopeless longing of the day.

Do you see what I see?
Do you see what I want you to see?
Do you see a reflection of what is or what is not?

What do you feel?

A Blue Eye

OK, I have a blue eye... I know, I know, I must open up my Facebook page. My publisher wants that (nag, nag), my (few) friends wants that, strangers on the street asks me to, and God knows, a few fans have mentioned something along those lines as well.

So, as of tonight I will set my Facebook account to public and I will be accepting friend requests (from foes as well) so if you feel like connecting with me there, here's the url:

http://www.facebook.com/peteymorf

I look forward to getting to know a few of you more from the more private side.

Have a great Friday evening and see you on Facebook.

:))
