The Partition of India was the partition of the British Indian Empire that led to the creation of India And Pakistan. Just after midnight, on 15 August 1947, India became a sovereign and democratic nation.

Massive population exchanges occurred between the two newly formed states in the months immediately following Partition. In the riots which preceded the partition in the Punjab Province, there were huge casualties and UNHCR estimates 14 million Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims were displaced during the partition; it was the largest mass migration in human history.

Great architecture!

#architecture #india

World Heritage Day.

World Heritage day is celebrated with an aim to raise public awareness of the world’s monuments and heritage sites and the efforts required to protect and conserve them. World heritage day has an important part to play in India, where you can find many such heritage sites and monuments.

Amazing 1000-year-old Architecture.

The Brihadeeswara Temple at Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. The entire temple structure is made out of granite and the temple tower (216 ft high) is among the tallest of its kind in the world. Built in 1010 AD by Raja Raja Chola I, it turned 1000 years old in 2010, is one of India's most prized architectural sites and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Looks like an awesome festival!

#india

Thrissur Pooram is an annual temple festival held in Kerala, India. It is held at the Vadakkunnathan Temple in Thrissur every year on the Pooram, the day when the moon rises with the Pooram star in the Malayalam Calendar month of Medam.
A splendid spectacle, the festival showcases beautifully decked up elephants, swift and rhythmic changing of dazzling parasols, and percussion music which heightens the excitement of the day.
