This is beautiful.

#art #throwbackthursday

Rajput painting, also called Rajasthani painting, evolved and flourished in the royal courts of Rajputana in India. Each Rajput kingdom evolved a distinct style, but with certain common features. Rajput paintings depict a number of themes, events of epics like the Ramayana. The colours were extracted from certain minerals, plant sources, conch shells, and were even derived by processing precious stones. Gold and silver were used.

This is great!

Retired bank employee donates Rs 1 crore life savings to National Defence Fund.
Mr.Janardan Bhatt, an 84-year-old retired SBI employee, recently donated Rs 1 crore, a portion of his savings, to the National Defence Fund (NDF) last week, after seeing reports of martyred jawans. The Rs 1 crore donation was made possible thanks to savings from his earnings and his investments in various funds, which all gave him robust returns when he retired.

From Gautam Gambhir to Akshay Kumar, celebrities doing their bit for India's security forces has always made headlines. But seldom do we hear of laymen going out of their way for the country's jawans.
Great Sir!

Doordarshan - Desh ka apna channel
If you have grown up in late 80s and early 90s, Doordarshan was your only source of entertainment as far as TV viewing is considered. Watching a movie once a week, waiting for Chitrahaar so that you can watch few songs or when the whole family would gather on a Sunday morning to watch “Rangoli” or “Ramayana” or “Mahabharat”.

Many of us would love to watch those serials again and Doordarshan's official Youtube channel has got few of those serials. Check out https://www.youtube.com/user/DoordarshanNational/

Vintage Fashion - Mysore 1880s

The saree is one of the world’s oldest and perhaps the only surviving unstitched garment from the past. Though centuries have passed since the saree was conceived as the Indian woman's hereditary costume, the charm of this beautiful garment, suited to the youngest of girls or the most elderly among woman, has not waned.

Chipko movement - 1970s. Hug the trees!
The Chipko movement or chipko andolan was primarily a forest conservation movement in India that began in 1973. The name of the movement comes from the word 'embrace', as the villagers hugged the trees, and prevented the contractors' from felling them.
The chipko aandolan practised the Gandhian methods of Satyagraha where both male and female activists played vital roles, including Gaura Devi, Sudesha Devi, Bachni Devi and Chandi Prasad Bhatt. This movement went on to become a rallying point for many future environmental movements all over the world; it created a precedent for non-violent protest started in India.

It is great to remember their sacrifices on Earth Day.

Bishnois - India's great conservationists

The Bishnois/ Bishnoi community, in Rajasthan have been conserving the flora and fauna to the extent of sacrificing their lives to protect the environment. For these nature-loving people, protection of the environment, wildlife, and plants is a part and parcel of their sacred traditions.

It is because of their protection that in Bishnoi-dominated areas, deer and antelope (such as blue bulls, black bucks and chinkaras) are seen grazing in their fields despite the fact that the area faces severe water shortages.

There is a saying that goes  sir santhe rooke rahe to bhi sasto jaan this means that if a tree is saved from felling at the cost of one’s head, it should be considered as a good deed.

Great people !

Marine Drive - 1950s.
Marine Drive is a 3.6-kilometre-long boulevard in South Mumbai in the city of Mumbai. It is a 'C'-shaped six-lane concrete road along the coast, which is a natural bay. It is also known as the Queen's Necklace because, if viewed at night from an elevated point anywhere along the drive, the street lights resemble a string of pearls in a necklace. The official name for this road, though rarely used, is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road.
