Craft Beer Nation2,301Go big or go home. This week we will focus our conversations on beers of 8% ABV or greater. Can one of you that is just watching keep some notes on who we need to apologize to on Saturday? We tend to go a little off the rails on the nights with higher ABV... To WATCH:  Just respond "Yes" to the event and you will get a notification when we start. That will bring you back to this event and there will be a link to the live feed here. To JOIN the HoA:  Respond "Yes" to the event, make sure you are following  +Craft Beer Nation, and comment here that you want to participate. If we don't know you want to join, we can't add you to the circle of invitees. To JOIN the AFTER-PARTY: Respond "Yes" to the event, make sure you are following +Craft Beer Nation, and comment here that you want to join just the after-party. You will get an notification that the hangout is starting and a link to join us. Just watch and wait for us to go off the air before clicking the Join. You may still get a warning about joining a Hangout on Air, but rest assured that once we hit the button to stop broadcasting, it would take 3 sacrificial drain-pours to get it running again.Big Beers - Friday Night Hangout | Craft Beer Nation2014-05-10 04:00:0022

And in yet more amusing news for the day, apparently there is still one line in polite society that you can get in trouble for crossing. Milo Minderbinder Yiannoupolos' defense of pedophilia (how "inter-generational relationships" are often crucial to the development of young people, especially among gay men, and it just goes on from there into a sort of NAMBLA manifesto) has gotten him disinvited from CPAC and his book deal cancelled.

Twitter is currently a mass of people saying "I was fine with him before, but this is too much!," of people replying on the lines of "wait, you were fine with the doxxing of trans students, and the abuse campaigns against game developers, and all the racist and violent speech, but this you're not OK with?," and a lot of other people (myself included) just shaking our heads and saying "OK, apparently this is what it takes... more »

But let's not dwell on that! Let's instead enjoy a seasonally appropriate recipe from +John Scalzi. Mmm, Schadenfreude Pie...

Here’s an interesting experiment: If we exclude heinous crimes like murder or child abuse, can you think of any behavior or remarks that you could guarantee would be considered truly beyond the pale for a political or cultural figure right now? Looking for a Nixon 2.0? Here it is. The Democrats' internal opposition research was used against them by Donovan opponents through a Ryan-related PAC.

Don't forget, we also have multiple reports and now a "high degree of confidence" from the intelligence community that the RNC server was also hacked, so the hackers and their employers also have dirt on the Republicans, which could be highly motivational for keeping the dirtier ones in line and not interested in investigating the Russian connections.

While there has been a lot of speculation about what effect the hacking of Democratic operations by a group with alleged Russian ties had in Donald Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton, a new report from The New York Times illustrates exactly how damaging the hacking was for Democratic Congressional candidates in about a dozen “of the most competitive House races in the country.”

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, an organization that seeks to elect more Democrats to the U.S. House of Representatives, was infiltrated by allegedly Kremlin-linked hackers, going by the pseudonym Guccifer 2.0, earlier this year. The same hacker or group of hackers pilfered thousands of documents from the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton Foundation. While Guccifer 2.0 has claimed to be a lone Romanian hacker, security researchers and others, including those in U.S. intelligence, say evidence shows the hacking came from Russia.

From the DCCC, Guccifer 2.0 released internal assessments of Democratic congressional candidates known as self-opposition research using social media to connect with local media and Republican operatives, the Times reported...

After Guccifer 2.0 targeted the chair of the DCCC, New Mexico’s Ray Lujan, the Democrats sent a letter to his Republican counterpart on Aug. 29 arguing that “the NRCC’s use of documents stolen by the Russians plays right into the hands of one of the United States’ most dangerous adversaries,” and if the National Republican Campaign Committee continued using the materials, the GOP “will be complicit in aiding the Russian government in its effort to influence American elections.”
...
Citing “senior administration officials,” The New York Times reported last week that U.S. intelligence agencies have determined with a high degree of confidence that Russian operatives also hacked the RNC but didn’t release whatever material they stole. Republicans have vehemently denied the report. ___
