Practicing Forgiveness, nos. 7, 9-11, 13-16. [Bottom to top, right to left.]

It is a practice,  forgiveness. It's something I've had to bring myself back to, over and over, a mindful meditation on anger, hurt, confusion, fear, betrayal, on accepting the feelings but not becoming them, not being consumed by them, observing them and allowing myself to feel them, much like standing in front of art I love, or watching a movie. I feel it, accept it, and then let it end, move on to the next painting, the next feeling. I let it play, I immerse myself in it, but it does not consume me. I do not become the hurt or anger, but if I do get too close to that line, I try not to get angry with myself for that. 

Learned: The opposite of forgiveness is not hate, it is guilt.

Haze.

Not sure on measurements, but do know that it will probably measure over 4ft tall once stretched and the top white is trimmed off. Not sure how much taller. 

Removal techniques. Paint was removed at the canvas layer at points, so some parts are just stained. 

Will get detail shots later.

Likely last painting session for a week.

Once this is dry, it gets rolled and stuck in a corner somewhere, with most of the rest of my work.

Since Roger Ebert passed away, I thought I would include one of my favorite quotes from him. 'Kindness' covers all of my political beliefs. No need to spell them out. I believe that if, at the end, according to our abilities, we have done something to make others a little happier, and something to make ourselves a little happier, that is about the best we can do. To make others less happy is a crime. To make ourselves unhappy is where all crime starts. We must try to contribute joy to the world. That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our circumstances. We must try. I didn't always know this and am happy I lived long enough to find it out.
I particularly love that he points out, "to make ourselves unhappy is where all crime starts." Struth!

[ It's like I'm turning inside-out ]

The part of me that used to long for complicated technique and dazzle-worthy eye candy has taken a vacation. What remains reminds me of childhood and roots. Blind contour on the living room floor, with my mother, earlier than I can remmeber. Did I know how to read yet? I don't know.

This one is very recent, but it still breathes the same as the old. I don't know what it is worth, but I do know that this is where I am at. 

I wasn't going to share it. I haven't been sharing this. It's a progression that seems like a regression, and I just don't know if I am ready to see it through your eyes. 

Yet...

Inhales, takes deep breath, jumps in.

I hope you’re feeling this way about your life, or at least the week that’ll take us into March. If not, I hope that something comes along to make you feel this way. Ask someone for back-up. If you have to drag them with you for support, do it. I did that just this morning. Alternatively, buy yourself flowers.

Sure, there are people – thoughts – waiting to pounce on your confident trust that you are safe, celebrated, lovable. Hey, there are people out there who, like The Onion, can hate on a nine-year-old girl. I would rather be an obnoxiously enthusiastic child, than a cynical hater of happiness.

Reworking an old piece

The photos show an assemblage of mixed media prints, fixed to the lids of cigar boxes, that I made for a show ten years ago. It's the biggest single printmaking-related piece I've ever made, and its existence has caused many problems for me since.

The details: 72"H x 72"W x 6"D. Called "Hecho en Cuba", each print is a mix of lithograph, etching, linocut, and photoetching, based on the month that I spent in Cuba back then. The images are maps of the island, buildings, people, cars, faces, objects, all collaged and overprinted on each other in different colours. I was trying to express what I saw in Cuba -- the movement, the colours, the vibrancy -- and also to suggest how memory jumbles everything up.

To This Day Project - You will want to watch this... trust me!

The grammar police will arrest me if I don't get this right. What is the plural of SDK?

Google is telling me every possible combo and I don't know which to trust.
(Gawd I am waiting for the day when techie grammar will actually make it into the textbooks. For now, I'm here, once again, polling the geekiest place I know - you!)
