Several new images published in this month's Beaux Couture Magazine. This one features Sarah wearing a gown designed by Silversärk with make-up and hair by Robyn Schlei.

This was shot inside of the historic Pabst Mansion. Huge thanks to them for giving us a chance to shoot in such an amazing location!

Special thanks to Evie for arranging such an awesome evening.

A lovely and unique light on yet another angle of this lovely gown. I often prefer short light when shooting. Even when mixed with this overcast day, I think it adds a lot of interest.

Finally had a chance to work with this lovely creature after 3 years of near misses! Sponsored by www.n-vu.com. If you have questions on how we use this for IPS, feel free to message me.

This image is great example of getting away from the plateau known as the "rule of thirds". Don't stop there when it comes to composition, as there is an entire world out there you can experience in all those classical paintings. Open your eyes and learn from those masters.

I am now doing one-on-one Photoshop lessons and image critiques. Check out my Patreon page for more info: https://www.patreon.com/scottdetweiler

I had a chance to meet this lovely lady at Shuttefest this past year. An amazing young woman, and a stellar photographer as well! Needless to say I was quite pleased to have a chance to spend time with her and capture her beauty. Thank you +Sarah Barkley for sharing some of your precious convention time with me.

I will probably post more BTS types of images to my instagram over the coming weeks, so keep an eyeball there. I prefer my finished work be published on G+, as I consider it my official stream.

My instagram is here for those interested:

Sessions are only $75, and packages start at $350. Designed for those that want something a bit more epic.

Took a break last evening from the flood of newborns to crack open a few images from the Shawshank Prison trip a few months ago. Lots of stuff coming from yet another amazing year in that historic edifice.

Here is a somewhat haunting image with Haley. I am playing with the idea of titles on it, and am not really happy with what I have so far. My wife suggested something along the lines of dancing or a marionette, which I like. I was trying to work the angle of dancing until all of the writing on the wall was read, but some is obviously missing, so it would take an eternity.

What are your title ideas here?

Here is another shot from my first time painting a body. The model did an amazing job sporting her new gold paint. Her amazing spine OWNS this image!

If you are interested in private Photoshop or Lightroom lessons, see my Patreon page on how we can meet monthly over Skype or Hangout and strengthen whatever weakness you might have. We also do monthly image critiques, so you can learn what you might improve to sell more and become a better photographer.

From beginner to expert, we all have things we can learn and improve. https://www.patreon.com/scottdetweiler

Big thanks to everyone that came to the Conceptual workshop at Green Olive studio last weekend!

Lots of additional workshops covering a wide range of themes and skil-lsets are coming up, so please join our meetup group. Next weekend is speedlights and strobe sessions.

Here is an image from that workshop, and I actually had a chance to do my first body paint with the guidance of my friend Otto. Here is my image of the amazing model and friend, Glassfist.

Heading back in a few days for a ton more teaching and hanging with friends. I will also be answering questions on how we use n-vu.com products in our studio for sales.

I do have an Instagram account I use for some posts that are a bit less professional. I prefer to keep my G+ stream full of my finer works, but if you like BTS or pics from my random life, you can catch those on my Instagram. I used to do those on here, and the might return as we watch the G+ product mature and add in new capabilities.

So much art was created on my recent trip out to the abandoned prison in Ohio, with some stops at a warehouse and this crumbling church. I did it all with this young lady in tow, and some epic images are the result. Many of the images are headed to publication, but I can't wait to share them so I am pushing this one out there to keep the fans happy. :-)

Leaving for the Shawshank Prison in a few days to kick out some art with old friends and new. I am looking forward to this adventure, as it is always full of great stories and memorable moments.

For example, in the hotel when we ran into a traveling pro-bowling group from somewhere in the deep/lost/wtf area of the south that kept spewing the most confusing English? That was endless entertainment after a long day of shooting in the cold abandoned prison. :-)

The model here is the amazing Lunariea.
Hoping to see a ton of you at Shutterfest in a few weeks!

The endless parade of babies continues at the studio. I think we have something like 12 or so in the queue, and it's getting to be a fun diversion from the typical fashion shoot. Of course this also means a few more maternity sessions, and those are opportunities to work with folks in a creative way that normally would not be in the studio.

If you would like to see more of the images that Connie and I are producing, please check out www.perfectpearphotos.com.

I was pondering a video training for those that would like to learn some of the techniques I use for newborn skin. Is there any interest there?

Did you know that although most of the movie "The Shawshank Redemption" was shot in the abandoned Ohio State Reformatory, the cell blocks were not actually used in the movie? The director apparently wanted the prisoners cells facing each other to make the shots easier.

"There's not a day goes by I don't feel regret. Not because I'm in here, or because you think I should. I look back on the way I was then then, a young, stupid kid who committed that terrible crime. I want to talk to him. I want to try and talk some sense to him, tell him the way things are. But I can't. That kid's long gone and this old man is all that's left. I got to live with that. Rehabilitated? It's just a bullshit word. So you go on and stamp your form, sonny, and stop wasting my time. Because to tell you the truth, I don't give a shit." - Red

If you don't get it by now, this is the room Red visits several times in The Shawshank Redemption to see if he can be released. Last time I was there, this table and chairs was still in place from the filming of the movie. Heading there in a few weeks!

I need to learn to enjoy those happy photos that clients love to purchase. Currently I appear to be stuck it the dark and moody phase of things, and they don't always buy those.

In this case, I loved the short light and really took it to the next level using my bokeh textures that appear on so many of my images. It is here if you want it: (https://gumroad.com/l/Irog).

I am sure I will be posting some happier images from this session, but it's these images that really draw me in and seem to get all of the retouching love.

Messing around with a bit of digital painting a few weeks ago. I have been using Artrage and a few other apps to make these. On average they take about 5 hours, but they are a nice way to relax and binge-listen/kinda watch to something on Netflix.

Many more newborn sessions in the past week, so expect a flood of those soon. Also, a few fashion shoots under my belt will yield a ton of new ladies soon, but many are headed to publication today, so a bit of a delay there.

Sometimes those models have issues with the props on the set... and sometimes the photographer takes a quick picture of it happening. :-)

Kim here was a real trooper in dealing with the stuff laying around this room, and I think she was hamming it up a bit because she knew I was going to take this shot.

So many babies this week! I think this is our 7th in less than 5 days. They are a lot more fun to shoot than I thought they would be. Styling is fun at any age, and the posing is really the challenge. Lighting is pretty simple, but I think I can improve on what the typical newborn photographer is using, but time will tell.

We also started blogging some of our sessions with some things we have learned as well as tips. What are your thoughts?

Most of you don't know this, but my partner and I shoot a ton of #newborn babies at our studio. It isn't the sexy fashion or fine art stuff you are used to seeing in my feed, so I have been skipping it. However, since that is most of what I have been working on, the feed needs some content. :-)

Connie and are two of the top newborn and #maternity photographers in the Milwaukee area. We love shooting these, and you can still have a ton of fun styling and wrapping them around a theme.

Just got back from speaking at this years ImagingUSA in Texas. Was a great time, and the room was packed! I had a great time, met a ton of new people, and didn't trip on stage. :-)

This year I am shooting high-school senior portraits in the modern way, as well as the more traditional style. I prefer this painterly look, but I am not sure it will fly with the kids these days. Thoughts?

Got the cover of Shotcaller Magazine with this image of Haley! I love this image, and I am glad it was able to get some additional traction.

I am going to be offering a live 4 week Photoshop course for 9 people. This will be done via Google Hangouts so we can screen share and talk in real time. Lessons will be twice a week with homework in between to hit-home the material.

Cost is $150 per person and this will kick off the second week of Jan. You need to have a microphone & headphones, also a webcam is a nice addition but not mandatory.

You should have the full version of Photoshop CS6 or later as Photoshop Elements isn't going to cut it. I will also be offering Lightroom and Capture One retouching sessions as well if there are folks interested.

Note this is limited to 9 people, and this is a beginner level class. If you are interested PM me to lock in... more »

I really love body painting. It releases me from the constraints of wardrobe and opens the doors to creativity like nothing else. It isn't a big deal to me that they are nude, but it is more of a type of clothing without the limits of expensive fabrics.

Model is Haley and of course Otto did the body paint. Make-up was done by Colour Law.

My partner Connie and I had a bit of fun as we waited for our next client to show up. Selfie time! I was playing with the Agent 47 concept as a photographer. What do you think?

Come join me in Texas in a few weeks and learn how I wrap my head around lighting. We will also use the same techniques to reverse engineer some images so you can learn from other images you enjoy. #ImagingUSA #ppa +Professional Photographers of America (PPA)

A lovely and unique light on yet another angle of this lovely gown. I often prefer short light when shooting. Even when mixed with this overcast day, I think it adds a lot of interest.

Bronze sequin plunging back-V gown $800.

If you are going to ImagingUSA, be sure to catch my session on creative lighting on Sunday! I will also be hosting a variety of pick-up sessions on random topics.

I still have quite a few shots from this catalog session, and I am sure they will be popping up over the next few weeks.

"Available Light"

Was looking through some past images and came across this one from a past event we had at Green Olive Studio. Love the make-up that Law did on Kellie, and Shane handing all that hair as well as a make-shift top from some belts we had laying around the studio.

If you are going to ImagingUSA and are interested in learning how to think with light, be sure to catch me at the conference! #ppa #ImagingUSA

Google+ hangout tonight (around 8pm CST) to critique a few images and work on some advanced composition skills.

If you are interested, please comment below and I will invite when it starts. If you do NOT have a webcam and a mic, please do not request an invitation. Nothing more boring than a non-interactive person sitting there taking a spot.

I have started working on a book explaining how I shoot my bodyscapes for clients that would like artistic nude images. Most often these are black and white or monochrome in this example), and make stellar art. The lighting is usually the challenge folks run into as well as some of the posing to keep the images artistic rather than lessons in anatomy.

I have also found that the level of fitness or age doesn't really play into the result as much as you think it would. The woman in this image here is in her 40s, just as an example.

Retouching is also a bit different, as there are challenges unique to the lighting and textures. I often spray the clients with a mixture of water and glycerin to form little drops, almost like sweat on the skin. Retouching after the fact means you need to pay more attention to how things work in and around these drops, which is frustrating if you... more »

What are your thoughts?

Also, if you are interested in my boudoir work, I do have an Instagram specific to this topic and brand.

There is also a brand account here on G+, but I am not really responsible for it, so it isn't used much. A problem I plan to resolve. :-) ___

When I was in Door County with Connie for a few days we experienced perfect autumn weather. However, on the morning of our sunrise shoot, Lake Michigan was kinda angry. When I combined a few photos of the waves into a single image, it leveled up. :-)
