I cannot tell you how thrilled I was to see that that the Int'l Society of Aviation Photography (ISAP) chose one of my shots for the cover of their annual Symposium program
That's my wide shot of an FA/18 at sunset in the center and they chose another for inside the program (that's mine top left corner on the right page). Truly an honor to be alongside such amazing photographers. I heard the event was just incredible (as always). My humble thanks to the ISAP for the honor. :) --Scott (proud ISAP member).

OK, I went and tried out the new flickr last night. Love the way it looks --- hate the way it works.
It's a beautiful, clunky, "let's bury the command they'll be looking for at a level that would make Adobe engineers proud" kind of place that, once you learn all the ins/outs is probably OK, but I just don't have to time to play "site hide-and-seek." I so hate sitting there thinking, "I just want to delete this photo" and all the obvious ways to do it don't work (I eventually found it), but I had to Google numerous topics.
You shouldn't have to use one site to research how to use another (especially when G+'s own great-looking galleries have gotten so good, and so much more intuitive). Oh well, flickr --- it was worth a shot, I guess.

Here's last week's episode of "The Grid" with guest hosts +Pete Collins, +Erik Kuna and Bradman, the Bad Man, +Brad Moore
Their topic is new technology and how to use it to make your photography stand out from the crowd, and the episode is getting a lot of love (probably because Matt and I weren't there, right?), so if you haven't caught up on "The Grid," now's your chance.

My buddy +Matt Kloskowski takes you through the new portfolio feature on 500px.com
You know how we're always talking on "The Grid" about why it's so important, as a photographer, to have a portfolio? That's why this is so timely. I've embedded the video below (it's under 5-minutes long).

I found a pretty cool Wedding font: Parfumerie Script OT
I always have photographers ask me about fonts I use in tutorials or photo books, and last week I found this new one I really like called "Parfumerie Script OT" (I found it at MyFonts.com for $29). It's an Open-Type font so I went in to Photoshop and made some examples. The top section is just different examples of the fonts upper/lowercase looks, and the bottom part shows the first letter of each word; normal; with Swash version applied; with Stylistic Alternates applied (you access these in Photoshop's Character panel, in the pop-out menu up top, under "Open Type." Hope you find this helpful. :)

Here's the shot (looks pretty much like the behind-the-scenes shot, right?)
I took that behind the scenes shot I posted yesterday by just zooming my 24-70mm out wide, so the flashes still all fired and it looks like the final shot (shown here), even though you're seeing the two soft boxes lighting the bike from above. There's one additional softbox in front on the left side that's putting some extra light on the engine --- it was a little dark in there with just the two strobes above. Anyway, here's one of the shots (with the apple box cloned out in Photoshop).

Here's a behind-the-scene shot from yesterday's shoot
I asked my Creative Director Felix Nelson if I could shoot his Harley on Friday, but he was doing some serious tinkering with it at home and it wouldn't be ready for days, so he suggested calling our guitar player Tony Llanes since he builds custom choppers on the side (Felix is the bass player for my band "Big Electric Cat").
Well, Tony didn't have one available, but his cousin had this "Big Dog!" chopper and Tony came rolling up on it yesterday and I was like, "Yeah baby." Only had 1-1/2 hrs to light and shoot this Big Dog and his buddy's sports bike, but I got it done in time to attend my son's sports banquet. Nice bike, eh! :)

When I recently got the chance to shoot the Audi R8, I only had an hour from start to finish, so I figured I'd give the new Priolites a try because of their "run and gun" wireless capabilities for on-location shooting, and they worked amazingly well. Check out the video below to see 'em in action (and to see one amazing car)!

The most useful button in Lightroom?
Great video clip from my buddy +Matt Kloskowski on what he thinks may well be the most useful button in Lightroom (he originally ran this over on LightroomKillerTips.com last week). I can’t say I disagree, because I use it literally every single day dozens of times (if not more). If it’s not “the” most useful button, it’s surely is among the very top!

If you missed this week’s “Scott Responds to the Creative Cloud Feedback” episode of “The Grid,” here's the rebroadcast.
The first half is about Adobe’s subscription-only announcement. The 2nd half is about an idea I had for Adobe for photographers, and it got lots of love. Feel free to avoid posting hateful comments.

Hold on to your hats boys and girls because tonight is our first ever ROCK N ROLL themed Pinterest Show!!
We'll get to sit back and talk with our very special guest (and all around cool guy) +Alan Hess about shooting concerts, bands, performers and what advice he has for someone new to concert photography!
Heck, I can tell you one I've learned just from talking to him about the show!
If you want that special close up shot, you have to make sure you take your really big, really intimidating lens and stick it right up the nose of the person singing—the closer the better. When they can actually feel the glass on the end of their nose you know you've hit your “sweet spot!”
Ahahahahahhaha!!! Okay, maybe not. Probably should let Alan dispense the advice. ;)
Please join me, +Alan Hess +Anna Nguyen and +Jason Joseph tonight (5/9/13) @ 7... more »

Today LIVE on "The Grid:" Scott responds to the comments on the Creative Cloud subscription-only model…PLUS, an interesting new idea for Adobe
It's going to be a WILD show today, as we start with a look at the feedback from this week's Adobe announcements, and then I have an interesting idea for Adobe --- something I think photographers would absolutely love, but I need your help on it. We'll be taking your questions (and comments) live, and we're going to have some cool giveaways, and a whole lot more, today at 4:00 PM ET (New York time) at http://www.kelbytv.com/thegrid --- see you then! My Take on Adobe’s Announcements Yesterday at the MAX Conference
Over on my blog today I did a Q&A about Adobe's new subscription-only plan for Photoshop and the Creative Cloud, and I hope I dispelled a lot of rumors and misinformation floating around out there. Here's the link: http://scottkelby.com/2013/my-take-on-adobes-announcements-yesterday-at-the-max-conference/
I also got the opportunity to take quite a public flogging over trying to answer a lot of questions people have out there. Ahh, another day in paradise. ;-)

Here’s Why We Always Bring a Flash. Or Two.
Over on my blog today I have the story of a natural light shoot gone bad. Well, it didn't go bad, but it didn't turn out great either. Let's just say ...well...I had to bring in some lights. Well one light. But the whole thing was kind of struggle (as you'll see). Here's the link: http://scottkelby.com/2013/why-we-always-bring-a-flash-or-two/

Behind The Scenes: Scott Kelby and Peter Read Miller
Was in the studio earlier today, and made a quick snap of +Scott Kelby hanging with legendary sports Photographer Peter Read Miller (just found out the man's done over 100 Sports Illustrated covers.. thats pretty sick). Check out his site here: http://www.peterreadmiller.com/
They're working on something in the studio, and you can tell that the crew is excited about it. There are 5 Nikon D800 cameras trained on them for this production. Its just things like this that make the place a cool environment to be in.

Adobe Sneak Peek: Processing Raw Photos on a Tablet
This is a snippet from yesterday's episode of 'The Grid" where Adobe's Group Manager Tom Hogarty sneak peeks something Adobe is working on --- Camera Raw/Lightroom-like processing of RAW images on a tablet. Sports Shooters --- I need your help
Hi Gang: Tomorrow I'm taping an online training class with Peter Read Miller (of Sports Illustrated fame) on "What makes a great sports photo," and I want to include some "Blind Photo Critiques" from serious shooters (like yourself) as part of the class, to get his insights and advice.
I want good quality shots from serious sports photographers and that's why I came here (instead of putting this out to the public). We've covering Football, Baseball, Basketball, Tennis, Motorsports, Track/Field/Gym, and Volleyball.
So, if you can help me out, and you'd like a blind photo critique from Peter himself, go to this link: http://kelbytv.com/thegrid/critique/ (it's the link we use for our weekly show "The Grid").
If your images are chosen by Peter to be critiqued, I'll send... more »

Very cool newsletter for photographers into shooting adventure sports
Every quarter or so I get emailed a PDF newsletter from adventure sports photographer Michael Clark, and I'm always impressed with how it's designed (and I love seeing his images, of course). He's got a great review of some inserts for Pelican cases (among other things) in the free issue I just got in my inbox yesterday. Here's the link: http://www.michaelclarkphoto.com/spring_2013.pdf

What an awesome prol hockey photo workshop
We had a blast this weekend! Totally great group of photographers (from as far away as Switzerland and Sweden), and Scott Audette and Mike Carlson both did an outstanding job! This is our group shot taken as we started our "on-ice" remote stuff (this is a "net cam
shot) and portrait shoots. Thanks to everybody who attended and to the awesome Tampa Bay Lightning organization for gave us the "access of the lifetime." :)

Check out the short video below (it’s like 90-seconds or so) which explains why Adobe is doing this unprecedented sneak peek, but once you watch that, here are the specifics:
Who: Tom Hogarty from Adobe Systems
When: Wednesday, May 1st at 4:00 PM ET (New York time)
Where: Live on “The Grid” at http://www.kelbytv.com/thegrid
Why: This is your chance to get straight answers straight from the source and to see a sneak peek of some stuff I haven’t even seen yet — but I heard about them— and you’re definitely going to want to see ‘em! (everybody will be talking about it on Thursday!)
See you on Wednesday!

Working on a portrait of a Master
I ran across this portrait I did of Jay a couple of years ago when we taped the class "A Day with Jay Maisel" in New York. This was taken in Jay's house, with light courtesy of his "I'll never clean them" wonderfully diffused windows. He's a living legend, a kind soul and a just very fun guy to be around. An unforgettable day of learning and laughter.

One from yesterday’s bridal shoot
I shot this yesterday for a project I’m working on. It was taken at a small church in downtown Tampa, and it’s lit with just one flash with a small 27″ soft box. 1/80 of a second (I chose a slower shutter speed so you can see more of the available light in the church), and f/4 (I chose a wider aperture than I would in the studio so the background would be out of focus). You’ll see a lot more from this project, soon! :)

Sometimes you just get lucky
We landed in Paris and began our four-hour drive to Mont San Michel in the pouring rain. It rained non-stop all the way there, and when we got out of our car in the parking lot (25-minutes walk away), it was still drizzling, but then.....the clouds cleared, the rain stopped, and the sky became much more beautiful than you see here (and we shot for more than three hours). There's a name for this. Total luck! :-)

I love the food photography of Linda Pugliese
It was +Kalebra Kelby that turned me on to her wonderful work, and I just love it! Into Flipboard? Into Photography? Check out my Flipboard magazine "Cool Photography Stuff"
A few weeks back Flipboard added the ability to create custom magazine's with the Flipboard App itself so I made one called "Cool Photography Stuff" and each day I update it with exactly that (I just hit over 1,000 readers this week. Hey, it's a start, right?). I search a lot of different photography resources and when I see something cool, interesting, helpful, or just a really beautiful image, I 'flip" it into the mag so it's always very up-to-date (I often update it numerous times a day). Anyway, it's free, it's fun, so just search it on Flipboard (it shows the mag is from "skelby" --- that's me!).
