Michael Earley8,445+Sumit Sen recently made a great post referencing the fact that pretty much everyone only have about 100 true followers irregardless of the number that is next to their name. True followers that is. Well if that being the case, you can keep 5 of your old followers and dump the rest and add this circle and be done with it. You will have the best time, see some awesome images from all over the world, you get get your entire google plus experience in one day and have six more days to shoot without having to check in. Well now your dilemma is solved. Less time, more quality time on the computer and more time to shoot. Oh by the way.. this circle is a bunch of the sweetest folks on google+ #SweetsSunday Take a look at the thread and you will know what I mean.2012-03-19 15:25:2995561117CC G+

Michael Earley8,048This week we only grew in numbers by a few, but the amount of comments grew by more than a hundred. We were teased by wonderful images of fantastic sweetness, we had sisters teased and we teased each other. I think this is one of the most active conversation themes I have seen. It is a nice way to pass your sunday with a group of freinds that is getting more fun each week. And oh yea.... we have good looking food as well... mostly sweets at #sweetssunday please join us and please download and share the circle.2012-03-12 08:17:3385634CC G+
Joe Powles0I have over 1300 people in my Photography circle, It sucks that G+ only lets you share 500 people. Well here's 500 people i'm following, I see a lot of great photos posted each day, It's great to see all this talent from across the world.2012-02-29 07:02:44500605CC G+
Sean Manley0I recently was seeing a few Photographers circles floating around, one dedicated specifically to females. I'd prefer just being able to click to see all photography, myself, so I combined them into a massive one. Since you can only share up to 500 people in a circle at a time, here is Part 1. Part 2 will be coming in the next few moments. If you want, just combine them into one once you've accepted the share.2012-02-28 22:30:24500345CC G+
Michael Earley6,784Added a few more hearty souls to this self rising circle. If you have posted in #sweetssunday and I missed you let me know. If you would like to be included in this fun circle, just pick out a cool shot of something sweet and have it ready to share next Sunday. The cool thing about this circle and theme is that for the most part, it is not just post and run, but a fun way to poke your nose in through out the day and have a few laughs on Sundays. Please check out the tread from yesterday and see some of the wonderful images shared this week. Please share this so we can continue to grow.2012-02-27 10:33:05727814CC G+
Mike Shaw758,388Women Photographer's Of G+It has taken a while to compile this circle as women photographers only account for around 30% of the photographers currently on G+, hence the reason for the share. I have to say in building this circle (and any other circles out there) you really get to see the depth of talent that is on G+.I hope you add this as it will only enlighten your on line experience.2012-02-26 14:38:03500187128237CC G+

Mike Shaw721,375Your Recommendations CircleI have been putting this circle together from people that you recommend and I said that when it hit 500 I would share it again, its not all photography based and each member at the time of being added had less than 30,000 followers.Admissions to the circle are now closed but I hope you enjoy the mix of people that are here, thank you to all that recommended and there are a few that I have included as well.2012-02-22 18:33:0050012676137CC G+

It's been an awfully long time since I've posted, but life has been a bit busy over the last year!  I'm finally catching up with archiving some of my photos, including this quick, unedited HDR image from our trip to Arizona during the holidays.  This was taken at sunrise on Christmas Eve.  Enjoy!

Chapman's Mill, Thoroughfare Gap, Virginia

Last weekend, in a desperate bid to escape the house, my husband and I took the kids to Chapman's Mill in Thoroughfare Gap, Virginia. We've driven past it countless times on our way to visit family and thought we'd finally make the trip to walk around the place. The history of the place is fascinating (check out http://chapmansmill.org/ for details - it dates to the late 1700s). It proved to be a terrific site for finding interesting angles and beautiful old stone walls.

Day 58 of 366 - 'Eye See You'

My son seems to think that all I do is cook dinner and take pictures (nevermind that whole 40+ hour work week), so I guess it's fitting that he used his food to impersonate me taking pictures. Good thing he's too dang cute to stay mad at for long...

20 Feb 2012 - Alexandra Bridge

I know that I've been off the grid of late (kids, work and travel can really take it out of you!), but I thought I'd start to jump back into G+ with a picture from a recent trip to Ottawa, Canada. Unfortunately, I did not have a chance to skate on the canal (again!!), but I did get some time to snap a few photos. This image was a +/-1.5, f/22, ISO1600 taken from Parliament Hill, which is one of my favorite photo stops when I visit. Unfortunately, my job won't allow me the opportunity to visit much anymore, so I'm glad I was able to make this image happen before I left!

On a side note: I have been keeping up with my 366 Project, I just need to curate a lot of the photos before I can get back to posting. Wish me luck!

Day 37 of 366 - 'Focus'

Last April, my 8-year-old son asked to start taking violin lessons. His older sister had tried violin at school and decided that choir was more her thing, but he was just fascinated with the instrument. We found an amazing local teacher and have been so impressed with his progress. We occasionally get push back on daily practice if he's tired, but he's generally pretty good about rehearsing. He forgot his sheet music at his teacher's house last week and we've been so busy that we keep forgetting to go and get it (sorry, Cheryl!!). However, he was very willing to try out some new songs that we found in some music books that we had purchased for his sister two years ago, even though he was incredibly tired.

Day 36 of 366 - 'Tolerance'

I hate to break it to all of my friends out there, but I really do have the best husband ever. Not only is he smart, funny, and can totally rock a goatee, but he puts up with me. The man deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for that alone. I was lamenting the lack of photographic opportunities this weekend while we were trying to accomplish several long-neglected projects, and he gamely offered to take the family out to lunch. I didn't take any pictures of lunch, but I did manage to snap a picture of my incredibly tolerant husband as we braved the crazy NoVA drivers on our way home.

Day 35 of 366 - 'Redecorating'

I got a burr up my backside this past Saturday and decided that we absolutely, positively needed to redecorate our bedroom THAT DAY. Pictures that I had printed and framed months earlier still had not been hung on the walls, the dresser we had recently purchased still had not been put together, and I really needed to unpack from my last trip and get the suitcase back in the basement. So, out came the drill, measuring tape and nails. Not only does our room look great, but we also found my international plug adapter (which will come in handy very soon), the cat brush, and some thank-you cards from Christmas that my daughter neglected to mail. I really should redecorate more often.

Day 34 of 366 - 'Rearview'

Now that the sun is rising earlier, I actually get to enjoy a bit of golden glow on my morning commutes again. I used to naively think that most normal people would still in bed when I'm driving to work, but no - they're all trudging along to the office with me. At least we aren't driving in the dark anymore.

Day 33 of 366 - 'Play?'

We were so ridiculously lucky when we rescued Annie. She has turned out to be the sweetest, most hilarious cat I've ever known. I've already shared her penchant for commandeering the printer, but her real love is assaulting fingers, ribbons and even nail files that find their way into door cracks for her to claw to bits. She will patiently wait outside our bathroom door for you to poke a bit of yarn through the crack and... pounce!!

#LeafOnThursdays curated by +Ray Bilcliff and +Marilou Aballe

We had finally raked up all the leaves in our backyard. Big bags full of crunchy leaf mulch sat ready for yard waste pickup. Suddenly, a great gust of wind blew through trees and a single leaf fell upon our patio. It looked so beautiful and proud that I couldn't bear to pick it up and toss it into the bags, so I decided to take a picture instead to honor its resilience.

And then my husband impaled it with a rake and it met its doom.

Day 32 of 366 - 'Bedtime'

We've had this book for several years now. I used to read it to my boys when they were too young to comprehend the story, but they still enjoyed the sound of my voice and the simple illustrations. Now, my middle child is old enough to take over my bedtime story responsibilities, and he does such a wonderful job of reading to his little brother. I don't care how cranky or sullen they get when they become teenagers; I will always think of my boys just like this.

As my attempt at getting my car safety inspection done this afternoon didn't turn out as hoped, I decided to make myself feel better by rummaging through some older pictures to see what I could do with them. This was a three-exposure (+/- 2) shot from a sunrise visit to Manassas Battlefield back in August. I tinkered with this one for awhile before I realized that the problem I was having was with the ever so light mist that had covered the landscape that morning. Guess I can't exactly clone that out, can I?

Day 30 of 366 - 'Sunset Trails'

Professionally, today was a pretty big day. There is a new path in front of me, and I am both scared and excited at the same time. Change is never easy, especially when people that I admire and respect have high expectations of me as I chart this new course. I had just finished talking with my mother about my excitement and apprehension when I stepped out of the car to see this gorgeous sunset pointing me toward the horizon. It was exactly the uplifting moment that I needed to tell me that, despite my fears, everything will work out so long as I keep moving down the trail in front of me.

Day 29 of 366 - 'Snickerdoodle'

I love to bake. Something about the simple pleasure of seeing the immediate results of your efforts is just immensely satisfying. My day job requires intense effort that can go on for months before a somewhat tangible result is yielded; baking requires a few ingredients, careful measurement, and a little bit of elbow grease to turn out something warm and delicious that you can snack on almost immediately. This particular cookie is destined for a good friend at the office that needs to feel the love for doing a thankless job very well. So tomorrow at work, I'll actually get an immediate tangible result - a friend's smile - for doing something I enjoy doing for very little effort. Not a bad way to start the week.

Day 28 of 366 - 'Veins of Winter'

I took more than a few pictures of my boys playing in the backyard yesterday, but none of them turned out quite the way I had hoped. For some unknown reason, I decided to turn the camera skyward to capture the late afternoon sun peeking through the gnarled branches of our poplar trees. Of all the pictures that I have from yesterday, this one is my favorite. Something about the bare, twisted branches just evokes the veins of winter for me.

On a side note - I toyed with the idea of making this a B/W photograph, but decided that I liked the light golden hue of the sun. I'd love your thoughts as to whether I should try this as a B/W...

'Gentle Reminder'

I loved everything about our trip to Germany last summer, but one of the highlights was an early morning walk through the Viktualienmarkt in Munich. We arrived not long after several of the sellers had arrived to start setting up their stalls. Among the many offerings included handmade crafts, jams, cases of wines (it was very difficult to pass that without purchasing a few bottles!) and many cheeses and meats. The vibrant fruit was a treat to photograph, especially with this gentle reminder to passersby.

Day 27 of 366 - 'Kindness'

This is a terrible picture. It isn't my iPhone's fault that it lacks considered composition, decent depth of field or contrast; it's my own dang fault that I captured this shot in a hurry. Regardless of its faults, it is my absolute favorite picture of the day, and that's not just because the man in the blue and black jacket is my husband. It's because my husband saw this lovely lady struggling to push her cart out of the store while limping with a cane and offered to help her to her car. Not a single clerk offered this woman help, but my wonderfully amazing husband did without thinking twice. I really cannot express how incredibly proud I am of him, nor can I articulate how lucky I feel to be his wife. Life is pretty good.

I've been meaning to post this one for ages, but as with many things in my life of late, it just slipped past me. This was taken during a photohike (I can't call it a walk because it was quite the hilly workout!) back in October. The leaves were beautiful that day, really at their peak color. I must have a year's worth of #LeafOnThursdays or #FallFriday pictures from that hike - hopefully I can actually get them posted this year!

Day 26 of 366 - 'Obsessed'

I have 217 cooking-related magazines. I do not have a subscription to any of them; I just see them on display at Whole Foods or B&N and feel compelled to buy them. I will buy Cook's Illustrated at any time, but I find that I tend to purchase food magazines more often during the holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas) and late spring/early summer (usually when I start feeling guilty for all the calories that I've consumed during the holidays). I would feel bad for having such an underutilized collection of reference material, but I have a mountain of unread history books to serve in that role. Besides, a shelf full of magazines is cheaper than a closet full of shoes... right?

Day 25 of 366 - 'Fuzzies'

My boys love "fuzzies". They earn them for being extra helpful around the house, or very kind to each other, or even for showering Mommy with gratuitous compliments. Every time they earn enough fuzzies to reach the next notch in an old orange juice bottle, they receive a "prize", which can range from a new board game to a trip to the movies. The current dilemma is trying to choose which wonderful thing they want from the myriad of choices. Oh, to be a second grader again with worries no more complex than deciding between hot chocolate and an ice skating adventure...

Day 24 of 366 - 'Pea Soup'

For two days, our entire region was encased in fog as thick as pea soup. I tried taking several pictures of it, but the fog was impenetrable. However, on my way to the office (a bit later than usual due to my turn on kid duty), the fog cleared just enough for me to brave a few seconds on a nearby side road with no traffic for me to stop the car and grab a quick picture. No sooner had I tossed my phone aside than the fog rolled back in and left me wondering where the trees had disappeared off to again.

Day 23 of 366 - 'Comfort Food'

Thus far in this #365project , I've realized that food is my go-to quick picture when I've had a busy day. This is probably because a) it's always around; b) I love to cook/bake; and c) I'm usually too exhausted after dinner to focus on much else. This is especially true of today, when I was running a meeting marathon from the moment I got to my desk. On the way home, all I wanted was a hug from my husband and kids, so an uncomplicated dinner was a must. Tonight's menu was one of our favorite meals: pan-seared salmon over pumpkin butter risotto with roasted asparagus (which were HUGE - I swear it's not the lens!).

Day 22 of 366 - 'Boule'

A few months ago, one of my coworkers told me about "Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day" by Zoë François and Jeff Hertzberg. Up to that point, I had been terrified of trying to make any kind of bread that didn't involve banana or zucchini. My colleague was pretty insistent about loaning me her copy of the book, though, so I felt I had to at least make a token effort. However, after I gave the "Master Recipe" a whirl, I was a complete convert. Aside from making my house smell amazing, there is something infinitely satisfying with taking that first crunch of perfectly crackly fresh-baked bread that you made yourself. If it was so dang easy to make, I'd almost feel bad that there never seem to be any leftovers...

Day 21 of 366 - 'Sledding'

We finally got our first taste of winter today. There had been a brief flirtation with snow a couple of weeks ago, but it disappeared just as quickly as it had arrived. Last night, however, graced us with just over an inch of snow that was quickly encased in ice. The treacherous conditions did not dampen the spirits of my boys, who quickly unearthed their "sleds" from the garage and hurled themselves down the short hill next to the house. Most of my pictures are of them falling down or otherwise showing me their least photogenic sides. This was the best of the bunch, and I can't help but smile when I think about showing a future girlfriend this adorable toothless grin.

Day 20 of 366 - 'Inscription'

Last year, an old Navy buddy sent me a really unique item that he picked up on one of his many world travels. He said that it was a replica of a seal or medallion meant to indicate that the bearer was in the prince's good graces. Since I can't translate what this says, I can't verify my buddy's claims, so for all I know, he's messing with my head. However, it is still a beautiful item that reminds me of a good friend.

Day 19 of 366 - 'Dusty'

The #366project is proving to be quite a challenge. For me, it's less about finding something to photograph as it is finding the time to photograph something. I tend to be at work by 7am and work 9+ hour days, then it's a rush to get home to pick up the kids, fix dinner, help with homework, then tuck the little ones into bed. By the time it's all said and done, I collapse into my desk chair and take a moment to ponder all the chores left to do; photography is usually the last thing on my mind. Tonight, I realized that the wreath above our front door was in serious need of dusting, but I'm far too tired to actually get it done. So, as a result, I just grabbed my camera and snapped a picture of it in the hopes that if I post it here, it will shame me into getting off my backside to do some cleaning.

Day 18 of 366 - Reason #27

According to numerous studies, there are plenty of reasons as to why you should not enter a grocery store when you're hungry. For me, there are even more reasons why I should never enter Whole Foods when I'm hungry, especially after a challenging day at the office. Pictured below is reason #27 - the awesome prosciutto that is sliced perfectly by the very nice gentleman who knows what I want before I have to tell him. Also pictured are reasons #18 (wide selection of crispy crackers) and #43 (Drunken Goat cheese!). I need to start carrying granola bars in my purse so that I am prepared to steel myself against such temptations.

Day 16 of 366 - 'Impending Doom'

I was hoping to bring you a gorgeous sunset or stunning landscape from today's planned adventure to the Shenandoah Valley. However, life had different plans for us last night. Thus, after a sleepless night while my husband was hooked up to heart monitors at the ER and I was at home trying to keep the kids calm, I am simply grateful that I could bring you a picture of our family playing a game together and whole. It turns out that my husband was not having a minor stroke, but rather a migraine that mimicked all of the symptoms. So, instead of the rolling hills of Virginia, I present the knotted landscape and impending doom of the Minotaurus, who threatens the progress of our tenacious (but still living) heroes.
