One person said they got a $50,000 contract from the 30 day challenge, another has said that they are now positioned as an influencer amongst a specific niche for a page!THIS HANGOUT WILL GET YOU STARTED RIGHTWe'll cover - How to find people to follow,Analyzing different types of engagement,Analyzing your personal Google+ networkFocusing your Google+ Activityand using NOD3x as a brand pageTo get a head start and get your questions answered - start your own NOD3x project now: http://goo.gl/5Yv5B8------------#nod3x   #nod3x30   #semanticsearch   #engagement   #audience   #audienceengagement   #hangoutsonair   #unscripted   #gplusgirlstv   #gplustips   #conversationanalytics   #livehoa   #howtogoogleplus   #nichemarketing  How to build your Google+ following through Semantic Search2013-11-14 18:00:0095

Moritz Tolxdorff641,610Bridging the gap between textbook history, and real-life. Stories, questions, interaction... that's what this is about. A brave student in her High School World Civilization's class wanted real stories and answers outside of what her textbook and classmates offered. One post, a few questions, and 50+ comments later we've managed to impress a teacher, a department, and hopefully some students. Join us in discussing the way history is taught, not just from the United States perspective, but that of Germany's, dealing with World War II."It is much harder to hate, or even stereotype, if you have real people to connect (those stereotypes) with."Discussing German History2012-11-18 19:00:0032
Yifat Cohen69,795How the social revolution is changing the way we do business. We all keep hearing about how important it is to engage and build relationships - what does it really mean, and what tools are out there to help us master it?When +Gideon Rosenblatt spoke at DreamForce he saw a vision for a future of business information systems that is entirely based on relationships.ENGAGE OR DIE.In this Hangout On Air, we'll dive into the topic of engagement with +Gideon Rosenblatt   as he explains what he calls "engagement leverage." This framework bridges the kind of internal engagement you need with employees with the external engagement you need with customers, suppliers, partners and other external stakeholders. It's a simple, yet surprisingly powerful way for thinking about the way your organization gets work done. Gideon writes at Alchemy of Change about helping companies bring purpose and technology together into a more powerful source of competitive advantage. Gideon just came back from leading a panel on engagement at Salesforce's Dreamforce Conference (now the biggest tech conference in the world) and so in addition to talking with us about the engagement leverage model, he'll also share some of what he saw at Dreamforce. Max Huijgen46,779The 100 most relevant people on G+ you really should check out. It´s impossible to select the people which contributes most to my experience on G+ so I´ll let Google do the dirty work. These 98 people (and 2 pages I helped founding) are the most relevant ones according to Google´s circle sort so they deserve a spot in the Friday sun.  If you´re not in it, be assured I really enjoy your posts and/or comments. Max Huijgen27,907A mystery shrouded in an enigma: My Top 99 circle These are the 99 users who are on top of my relevance list and I considered myself quite relevant to myself so I overruled Google there :)Many of these folks are engaging with me through posts or comments, but it´s still a surprise circle. Some people have a magic link thanks to Google´s relevancy algorithm which is a mystery shrouded in an enigma. If anyone has a clue what determines relevancy I would like to know. It´s clear that it´s something like ´interaction * no. of followers as I rarely comment on +Robert Scoble and vice versa. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE PEOPLE ROCKS :)I removed some family and such but otherwise I've always found my relevance to be pretty spot on.Likely because I get their emails and use those on the Gtalk chat desktop app and/or I email most of these people at various points.  Which is pretty much what this relevance thingy is based on. :)Want to make your own?1) Click circles on the tab on the right2) Make sure relevance is selected... 4th box across the top beside the typing area(where it says type a name) - (it is the default option)3) Drag and drop you mouse to select roughly a hundred people. Going up
How catapillar do it....

How a caterpillar climbs? - post for Matt
Caterpillars have two types of legs which perform different functions.
Thoracic legs: Caterpillars have three pairs of jointed legs with hooks; these are attached to their thorax. Caterpillar's thoracic legs hold onto its food.
Prolegs: The prolegs are stumpy legs that let the caterpillar climb very well, even up vertical surfaces. Caterpillars usually have five pairs of stumpy prolegs on the abdomen. These prolegs have crochets (small grasping hooks) on them. The last pair of prolegs are called anal prolegs; they are at the very end of a caterpillar's abdomen (hind region). These prolegs disappear in the adult.

Vibrant Communities on Google plus

Science is Massive on Google+
Here's a fantastic article on the "massive engagement" on Google+ communities! Journalist +Simon Owens has featured our community as one example of the dedicated discussions that take place on Google+, dispelling the myth still perpetuated by mainstream media that Google+ is a "ghost town."

Simon quotes Google product manager +Danielle Buckley who says of G+ communities "People come up with really interesting ways of talking to each other that are community defined and make them really special."

Thank you to all our members who make our community one of the top 10 largest communities on Google+ as well as an amazing place for smart science discussion! Simon highlights some of our favourite posts by our community members. Take a look!

The Bottom Lines nails it for me

At this point, I'd say that Android Wear watches are best viewed as cool toys for technophiles. Neither the hardware nor the software is quite polished enough to be ready for prime time -- and for the bulk of consumers, it's advisable to wait until the second generation comes around and the technology has had a chance to mature.

All right -- let's do this. Time for the in-depth review:___The Bottom Lines nails it for me

Additional information about the #Moto360

Day 4 Moto 360 update.

- I've tried all the stock watch faces and I ended up liking this digital one the most (accent color changed to red, looks a lot better than the yellow stock). It's a lot faster to tell time with a quick glance using a digital face compared to analog, and I love this one, especially the seconds hand.

- The battery life was better today. Off the charger at 10am, still alive, though just barely, at 12:30am. So 14.5 hours. I'm not exactly and conclusively sure why that is the case, and why I still can't squeeze more out of it, but Sundays are a lot lighter on email than weekdays, so tomorrow should show whether today was an outlier or not.

- Before today, I reset the watch altogether and reinstalled the Wear app to make sure it started fresh, since I didn't reset after the 4.4W.1 update a few days ago. It's possible that this helped the battery situation, but I'm not sure.

- I kept the ambient mode off, but oddly, it keeps coming back on randomly. Toggling it on and off again makes it go away, but it comes back after a while. Ambient mode is so nice compared to having the screen turn off immediately, so if the battery keeps allowing me, I'll want to start keeping it on.

- Because I'm still traveling and haven't had a chance to put on a square watch since last week, I've pretty much gotten fully used to the round one and almost don't notice the cut-off messages anymore. It's bothering me a lot less than I thought it would.

- The whole look is growing on me too. The first impressions were marred by the plasticky feel and the crappy band, and the thickness stood out too, but having gotten used to all of these (I will probably still replace the band with something made of metal because it really is terrible), I have to admit that I'm now liking the look more than the other watches. And the silver variant probably looks a lot better in person than black too, so there's that.

- The bottom black cut-off area is a real pain. I've learned to ignore it, but I'm constantly reminded of this limitation when checking out watch faces.

- Qi wireless charging means I can find power in a lot more places, and I'll probably look into getting a Qi-enabled portable battery.

- Speaking of, when docked, the Moto 360 makes for a really attractive little bed clock. Not too bright, not too dark.

- The main problems I have with the 360 in addition to the cut-off area are BT connectivity and battery life. If battery life improves and at least starts lasting through the day, that'll knock out my biggest complaint. The BT connectivity is a problem, but I think if I uninstall or disable the Find My Phone app that buzzes me every time this happens, I'll stop noticing, as long as it quickly reconnects.

- Given all three of the above, I'm getting more excited about the G Watch R, even though it loses out in the looks department, and its screen is smaller. Battery life should be a lot better, and it's a true circle finally, but I'd have to try it in person for 3-4 days to really make that call.

- Given how inconsistent and buggy my experience and the experiences of many others have been (not just with the 360, but with all Wear watches), I'd say we're a good year or two away from a generation of Android Wear suitable for everyone and not just early adopters willing to deal with the BS I've been dealing with for the last week. Battery life, speed and usefulness of voice input, better screens, more powerful capabilities (and did I mention battery life?) are all things to look forward to.

- I still haven't seen any Wear watches targeted at women. My wife thinks they're all way too geeky-looking, and she wouldn't wear anything announced so far. Maybe a year from now?___Additional information about the #Moto360

Good Review

Turning the Other Cheek

There's been a lot of Apple Watch bashing, and some Apple Watch love, on the Google Plus the past few days. To be fair and impartial, here's a hands-on review of the Moto 360 written by Roberto Baldwin that appeared in +The Next Web. There's some love but also some disappointment too.

A few quotes about the Moto 360 and Android Wear from the piece:

Apple Watch only works with iOS and Android Wear only works with Android. Right now it seems unlikely that either watch will cause a mass migration.

The Moto 360 is a beautiful smartwatch that doesn’t look like someone just shrunk down a smartphone, strapped it to a band, and called it a day. You’re happy to show it off to friends and non-snobby watch fans.

The stainless steel watch feels solid in a the way that you would expect watches built in the 1950s by Swiss engineers.

The display does have that weird dead zone at the bottom of the display. It looks like something on the display is broken; Like a lazy family of pixels have decided to call it quits after a fight with neighboring pixels. The tiny black sliver of nothing is staring at you all the time.

This is a watch you want to show off and then quickly explain away the thickness as being a necessary because of the current state of technology and “hey, the Apple Watch is pretty thick too and who knows when that thing will be available.” If only you you could do the same with Android Wear.

Android Wear is like a cat, sometimes it listens. Other times, it doesn’t even care that you’re there.

Unfortunately, it’s held back by an operating system that’s about 85 percent ready and if Apple’s Watch delivers on its demo, Android Wear and the Moto 360 will look antiquated very quickly. The watch is also a battery chewing machine and if you’re checking your notifications every few minutes (like I do) you’re going to be disappointed when dinner starts and your watch is now just a bracelet.

Are these fair critiques? Well, they're critiques based on actual use and not just speculation, which is about all most of the current Apple Watch critiques are as the commenters have yet actually seen or used the watch.

But remember, these devices are in their first generation. Much early tech seems clunky and even poorly thought out. I don't think we will begin to feel sufficiently satisfied with smart watches until their third generation.

Oops

So I've had the Moto 360 for a day now, and my personal experience with it has been awful. It's easily the buggiest and most power hungry Android Wear device to date.

1. It keeps losing BT, way more often than other watches.
2. It keeps stopping notification sync. Sometimes, it realizes it after a while and starts. Except...
3. All 15 apps have decided to fully resync and reinstall themselves for the 3rd time so far. See attached pic (thanks to the handy app that shows when this happens, otherwise I would have had no idea).
4. I've taken it off the charger 3-3.5 hours ago, and it's already at 55%. This is absolutely terrible. When they said you might need to recharge twice in one day, they weren't joking.
5. It doesn't look nearly as awesome in person as it does in all the promos. My wife already said he's not impressed and prefers the Gear Live look.
6. Circular screens, while looking awesome, lose out to rectangular ones when it comes to usability. Using a circular screen is just awkward. Things get cut off, and it just doesn't feel right. YMMV. Your experience may be different, especially if it's your first Wear watch.

Ugh. I'm going back to the Gear Live. ___Oops

Good Read - take the time!

To build the knowledge graph with #freebase , which was created by information in the #wikipedia and then extended by the Google Team, is really a very good start.

Knowledge and Artificial Intelligence

I just hit the publish button on this one, and I think it may be one of my better articles in a while. It's an attempt at a bigger perspective on what's happening with things like Deep Learning (and other forms of machine learning and artificial intelligence), as well as Google's Knowledge Graph and even its "Knowledge Vault."

In this piece, I try to explain how these new technologies fit together. I also try to show how  these latest breakthroughs are still part of a long arch in human history, a continuation of our efforts to pull tacit knowledge from the biology of our minds and bodies and embed it as explicit knowledge into a new container.

I hope you enjoy this one. I enjoyed writing it.

Project Wing by Google[x]
updated with information from bbc
It is interesting to see, what way Google has taken trying to solve the delivery problem for smaller goods. Flying higher and delivering on a string, could help to make drone delivery safer and more effective. And the drone looks much bigger than most other shown quadrocopter drones, that I have seen so far.

Looking forward how this develops in the near future.

More information here:
http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-28964260
Project Wing's aircraft have a wingspan of approximately 1.5m (4.9ft) and have four electrically-driven propellers.

The total weight, including the package to be delivered, is approximately 10kg (22lb). The aircraft itself accounts for the bulk of that at 8.5kg (18.7lb).
