Michael J. Steve Hall860Early last week, I shared a circle I had pared down from over 300 to just 60 "top engagers." It's already grown by almost half, and I've only managed to keep it this small with difficulty. I've no doubt by the end of the week it'll be over 100. That's NOT a bad thing! I saw a post today by someone who complained there's nothing in his G+ stream, but when I looked at the people he has circled, a lot of them are in this circle (and he had quite a few other high-profile Plussers circled). So I dunno what he was looking at when he thought he was looking at his stream. It's all I can do to keep up with this circle, not to mention the other 15 or 20 circles I have!2012-03-14 16:23:1287405CC G+
Steve Hall754Yesterday, I shared a rather large (close to 300 people!) circle of folks who are smart, savvy, and full of engagement. I also realized I spent waaaaaaay too much time on G+ yesterday, to the detriment of being otherwise productive. This morning, I went through all my various circles, curating them into this much smaller circle of "Top Engagers." This is the circle I (will) go to first when I log in here. I'm sure it'll quickly grow well beyond 60. There are all kinds of people here, from writers to scientists to gamers to Android enthusiasts to techies to geeks (I think there's a difference, but not sure where the line is) to just general "fun people to engage with." So if you want—or need—to narrow your focus a bit, and perhaps slow down that steady stream—or flood—of G+ goodness, you could do worse than start with these people.2012-03-08 17:32:406112510CC G+
Rae O.4,888These are the most engaging, thoughtful, fun, creative and interactive people on Google+, for a starter circle. Add to get some action in your stream! And before you share it, add yourself! Edit note: I did remove my friend's name because I have not told him how this works and he has a whole bunch of new friends, tons of emails and a phone that was lighting up all night.Wow, the power of G+ blows me away! (Please note, this circle was originally curated by +Peter G McDermott) I just reshared it and in no way am taking credit for creating something this awesome!2012-03-07 05:50:19269781433CC G+
Peter G McDermott39,143How to Be Circled on Google+Interaction. Interaction. Interaction. In real life, people commonly ask me, “how in the world did you get so many followers on Google?” Of course, being an early adopter helped, but the most important thing I did when I arrived here was interacting with other users. I can’t say it enough, interacting with people’s content shows them two things: 1) You’re paying attention. 2) You invested time in starting a conversation. There are so many people on Google+ that have some incredible content to share. Now, of course, this content might not all be relative to you. Someone into +Lady Gaga and fashion design isn’t going to take too much interest into +Robert Scoble's posts, but at the same time a budding tech blogger wouldn’t make much of an effort to follow a well-known cake decorator. The point is, all of your circles should be relative to you. You should circle people that interest you.So how you do you find people that interest you? Well, sometimes you have to take a gamble. You have to see what they have to say, determine if it is relevant and then decide whether or not you want to continue interacting with them. It’s the same principal as making friends at school, work or sports bar.In order to help some users interested in interacting with more people I created a call to action last night asking users to comment and share if they were interested in being exposed to more users. The response was overwhelming and a great demonstration of how community members can come together.Lately I have ranted a bit about the Suggested Users List and the What’s Hot List, but the real truth in the matter is that they...don’t matter. This network is only to you what you take out of it. So, here’s an opportunity for a couple of hundred people to show you what they are all about.Special thanks to +Natalie Villalobos and +Robert Scoble for helping me in the back channel with “re-aligning” my focus. It took a while, but I think I’m back on track to doing what I do best. There are a few great people in here including Googler +Sara Eleta Reid, funny hangout man +matthew rappaport, culinary extraordinaire +Lee Allison, Google+ enthusiast and business expert +Denis Labelle, and Nashville local +Andy Torres2012-03-03 01:45:08270141111124CC G+

Chances are, you don't really care about the history of π. I'm sharing this because of the "Bonus Fact" at the end:

The mathematical volume of a pizza is pizza. How does that work you say? Well if z = radius of the pizza and a = the height then π * radius^2 * height = Pi * z * z * a = Pizza.

#1: If you have those kinds of friends, you're doing it wrong.
#2: Okay, that part sucks. Just keep in mind that Windows is the most-used computer operating system in the world, and all the rest put together don't even come close.
#3: Put it on, leave it on. Unclip it from the case if you have to reach for something, but the dangly strap will remind you to reclip it before you touch something. Probably.
#4: Oh, bullshit. Yes, you'll have more parts than you need, but this is never a bad thing. And if your instructions are as detailed as the article makes it out to be, count yourself fortunate.
#5: I have never, ever needed anything to assemble a PC (and I've been doing it for 25 years!) other than a #1 and #2 Phillips screwdriver. (If you use cable ties, a pair of small diagonal cutters is nice.)
#6: Read the other article: use a pea-sized dab in the middle, and... more »

When we launched Google+ over three years ago, we had a lot of restrictions on what name you could use on your profile. This helped create a community made up of real people, but it also excluded a number of people who wanted to be part of it without using their real names.

Over the years, as Google+ grew and its community became established, we steadily opened up this policy, from allowing +Page owners to use any name of their choosing to letting YouTube users bring their usernames into Google+. Today, we are taking the last step: there are no more restrictions on what name you can use.

We know you've been calling for this change for a while. We know that our names policy has been unclear, and this has led to some unnecessarily difficult experiences for some of our users. For this we apologize, and we hope that today's change is a step toward making Google+ the welcominga... more »
