Boo! Just in time for Halloween, we’re serving up two new treats for Android fans: KitKat (Android 4.4) and Nexus 5 developed with LG. Super excited to take the wraps off KitKat - packed with lots of cool features that deliver a smarter and more engaging user experience. And in Nexus 5, Google Now and Search are always at your fingertips or activated with a simple ‘Ok, Google’. Now is evolving with many new powerful use cases to bring the right information from across the web to you.

Also really excited that Kitkat will work on 512 MB devices, so that all entry level smartphones can get access to the latest version as well. This will really help us get Android to the next billion users...

Been a busy week for me and I have some catching up to do outside work -- ‘Ok, Google, ideas for last minute Halloween costumes...’

As I talked about at SXSW earlier this month, there’s tremendous opportunity in the wearables space. Today, very excited to introduce Android for Wearables -- can’t wait to see what our ecosystem of developers and partners build on this platform.

Sharing what’s up our sleeve: Android coming to wearables

Today we’re excited to extend Android to wearables. And we’re starting with the most familiar wearable—watches. We’re already working with several consumer electronics manufacturers, including Asus, HTC, LG, Motorola and Samsung; chip makers Broadcom, Imagination, Intel, Mediatek and Qualcomm; and fashion brands like the Fossil Group to bring you watches powered by Android Wear later this year. If you’re a developer, check out developer.android.com/wear to download a Developer Preview so you can tailor your existing app notifications for watches powered by Android Wear. Look out for more developer resources and APIs coming soon.

I'm very excited to officially welcome the Advanced Technology and Projects group, led by Regina Dugan, to the team. Known to many as a small band of makers and believers, the +Google ATAP group will continue exploring the future of computing and where it's headed. The goal is to accelerate the development of promising technology in hopes of advancing the entire ecosystem.

Today's launch of Project Tango is just one example of this. It's inspiring to witness this kind of innovation at the hands of a community of developers, researchers, scholars, and more, and to see what's possible.

We are excited to announce a new project from ATAP, something that we have been working quietly on over the past year.

As we walk through our daily lives, we use visual cues to navigate and understand the world around us. We use our eyes to observe the size and shape of objects and rooms, and we learn their position and layout over time almost effortlessly . This awareness of space and motion is fundamental to the way we interact with our environment and each other.  We are physical beings that live in a 3D world. Yet, our mobile devices assume that physical world ends at the boundaries of the screen.

The goal of Project Tango is to give mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion.

Our team has been working with universities, research labs, and industrial partners spanning nine countries around the world to harvest research from the last decade of work in robotics and computer vision, concentrating that technology into a unique mobile phone.  Now, we’re ready to put early prototypes into the hands of developers that can imagine the possibilities and help pull those ideas into reality.

What if you never found yourself lost in a new building again?  What if directions to a new location didn’t stop at the street address? Imagine playing hide-and-seek in your house with your favorite game character. Imagine competing against a friend for control over physical space with your own miniature army.

We hope you will take this journey with us. We believe it will be one worth traveling.  To find out more, and apply for a development kit visit  http://g.co/ProjectTango.

The future is awesome. Let’s build it together.

Really excited to see this. More apps to come!

Pandora comes to Chromecast today, so that you can listen to your favorite stations on the best speakers in your house – the TV.  Download the latest version of the Pandora app (http://goo.gl/hk0dc) on your Android smartphone or tablet or iPhone (http://goo.gl/JhP8Fi), and look for the same cast button you’re already used to.

Not sure I can watch this video, but amazing to see how new technology can be used. We have barely scratched the surface of how eventually computing will transform our lives. THanks +Jonathan Rosenberg  for sharing

Today my brother in law, +Lorne Rosenfield M.D.  became the first plastic surgeon to use Google Glass for a live streaming of a plastic surgery. The procedure, an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty), was performed on October 29th in his Burlingame surgery center and streamed in real time to plastic surgical residents at both UCSF and Stanford.

I watched the surgery in my car on my Motorola Maxx and shot this video. I did a quick search and there have only only been a couple of Google Glass recorded surgeries in the world, and this case became the first of its kind in plastic surgery. Although Google Glass may be in “beta” phase now, Dr. Rosenfield’s goal was to prove its far reaching potential in the operating rooms of the very near future!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Dr. Rosenfield at
