Please comment and tell us the day/time you prefer to play Minecraft as a group so we can plan better for next week.

The challenges that we are facing in scheduling:
- Most kids go to bed by 8 or 9pm PST (and we have very enthusiastic youth that want to play)
- Some parents want to play after their kids have gone to bed
- Some players are not on PST

We are thinking about playing 8pm - 10pm pst to try and capture the middle ground.

I kind of make goals as I go but haven't been writing any down for awhile. It doesn't feel fluid enough.

Plus the whole follow your passion thing is something I've been doing personally and via work.

They're suggesting a real use of swarm robotics -- a mini-Borg collective, if you will -- to do something GENUINELY GOOD for our planet. 

If this isn't a good use of Kickstarter, I don't know what is.

I was just thinking while watching Iron Man 3 that it was cool that Tony actually says "I like to tinker" and this article is in line with my thinking "Through Iron Man 3, Hollywood is helping further the message that it’s cool and sexy to make." but the author goes on to explain why it's not awesome,

We are starting to post our learnings from the weekly Minecraft sessions. If you are curious what we've done so far, take a look. This week was incredibly fun because we learned how to make fireworks, firecrackers, circuits, and rode in a cart on a railroad. I had no idea you can learn so many things in a video game. It's by far becoming my favorite game.

We're looking for mentors and participants for the National Day of Hacking happening in Boyle Heights on June 1st and 2nd. It's going to be a super fun event that includes a mini maker faire! 

Mentors: We are looking for Developers or Design professionals with at least 2-3 years experience that would be willing to mentor the hacker participants

Hello! I just got off the phone with Sonali, one of the founders of Hacker School in NYC. We need something like this in LA, but in the meantime, if you are at least a beginner programmer and truly want to improve your programming skills in an unschool, project based way, then I highly recommend applying. Etsy gives scholarships to women who are accepted so they can pay for rent, etc.

They have a range of applicants, one is 55, so if you are even considering a career change, they have had many people come through doing just that. They also actively help with job placement at cool companies.

Did I mention it's free? And only 12 weeks!

Hello Minecrafters!

These sessions are open to anyone that wants to learn how to play Minecraft or wants to offer assistance to those that want to learn. We hold these sessions weekly and you can join at anytime. The only thing we ask is that you are courtesy to other players and don't destroy their creations.

We will continue to work on our sky community including building our houses and adding other structures that might be useful or just plain fun.

Our focus will be on building the railroad and seeing how far we can push the limits of where the track can go.

Note: Some of us have had issues with G+ Hangout lagging so we are going to propose that everyone turns off their cameras and we just do voice to see if that helps.

This piece brought tears to my eyes.  It is beautifully written, and oh so true. It's amazing how American good will can be so badly misspent by those in power.

This piece matches the stories I heard from Clare Lockhart, co-author with Ashraf Ghani, of the book Fixing Failed States, and founder of the Institute for State Effectiveness http://www.effectivestates.org/, which has a methodology for making sure that aid money goes to the people who actually need it.

But I digress. This piece is about the bundles of cash that go to Hamid Karzai, and how it ought to be spent.  If you read only one thing today, let it be this.
