Most Google Hangouts Video Call apps will stop working today (but Hangouts isn't going away)

The Google+ Hangouts API is retired today (April 25), which means saying goodbye to Hangouts video call apps like Effects, Draw and Soundation.

This will not affect Hangout video calls other than that the apps will no longer work.

There are a few apps for enterprise and Hangouts on Air that will continue to work:

These include the ability to dial into a call (served by the Dialpad and RingCentral apps), integrations with other enterprise communications tools (e.g. Slack), and our Hangouts on Air broadcasting tools (Toolbox, Control Room, Cameraman).

You can now remove the Custom URL from your YouTube channel or Google+ Page or Profile.

Note: you may not be able to re-add the old URL, so only remove a URL you are positive you no longer want.

You can remove your URL up to 3 times per year.

Removing the URL

1. Sign in to your Google Account and go to your "About me" page.  aboutme.Google.com

2. Select the account with your YouTube channel or Google+ Page at the top right. You may have to click All of your Brand Accounts if your account is not in the list. 

3. Find your current custom URL under "Sites" and click edit 

4. Next to the URL you want to remove, click X.

5. Click OK.

Humans have a tendency to overestimate the change that will occur in the short-term and gloriously underestimate what'll happen in the long-term (25 years).

And, the change that Deep Learning is powering with Machine Learning is truly human history level change. In the post, I attempt to paint a long arc. Starting what what AI is, what is possible today, and then shifting to what are the implications on your job in the short and long-term and close with advice on what you should do. Now.

I close with how I'm getting my kids ready to live in an AI-First world (almost everything they are learning today in School/University is going to be useless, including the style of learning). I hope... more »
