We should all get the most understanding on this whole subject area in a rapid fire, energetic and dense 30-40 minute session. Content will include... What is ‘authorship’? How do you set authorship up? (G+ account, website, publishers) What is the benefit of setting it up? Can a business Page have authorship? What is ‘rel publisher’ all about? What is PageRank? (simple version!) Is this all about ‘relevance’? How do the people you to whom you are connected matter now? What advice would you give to: a) an individual, and  b) a business to get it all set up! martin shervington1,376,059What is it all about? The leadORS indicator gives you insight into your own communication style and the journey you need to lead to conduct effective "online conversations" personally, and within your organisation. Why is this important in business today? Attracting and engaging with customers, leading and retaining staff and staying ahead of the competition is of paramount importance for today’s business leaders. The leadORS indicator provides a solution to these challenges by understanding your communication style and helping you to transform business thinking through social engagement and digital citizenship. Sound good?  What do you before the hangout? Well, it take about a minute to complete the questionnaire here: http://www.leadors.co I've done it. I am a 'Scout' The indicator will… • Identify your preferred communication style online • Take you on a journey to become Open, Random, Supportive (ORS), the most effective way to behave on the internet • Identify simple steps to build your profile and communicate effectively online • Show you how you can interact with communities online • Review your team styles and identify typical brand advocates • Build your business brand online and stand out ahead of the competition Once we are rolling I will give you some more information on it all as well. Here is the link for the questionnaire again: http://www.leadors.co ORS - a Friend As someone who is Open, Random and Supportive (ORS), you are inclined to be free-flowing, accepting and supportive of those around you. CRS – a Manager Someone who is Closed, Random and Supportive, (CRS) tends to be reluctant to promote themselves online but that does not necessarily mean that they are closed to the Internet.  OSC – a Mentor Someone who is Open, Selective and Controlling (OSC), tends to exhibit an open mind and are careful with what they choose to hear and share. They like to gain control of people and situations. CRC – an Engineer Someone who is Closed, Random and Controlling (CRC) tends to be reluctant to reveal themselves online but is accepting of new data insights. They may seek to control others and situations around them, using the information and knowledge you generate from the Internet. Often keen to game systems. ORC – a Scout Someone who is Open, Random and Controlling (ORC) tend to be free-flowing online and accepting of most things. They tend to seek control of others and situations, using the online data they receive. CSC – a Chief Someone who is Closed, Selective and Controlling (CSC) tends to be closed about themselves, choosy or skeptical about the data they absorb. These people are direct opposites of the behavior of the social web, which can lead them to control people and situations. They are often skeptical about the role or value, the internet can play in their own lives. and this (in response to why the web version of Spaces doesn't have G+ share integration, but has FB

Live-Streaming in China

Live-Streaming Apps Boom in China, Fuel Celebrity, Create New Stars

A woman wearing no makeup and dressed in a t-shirt and shorts saunters through her kitchen making hong shao rou, red-braised pork belly. In between bouts of cooking she attempts to cajole her son to share his toy Ferrari. In the new online world of video live streaming in China, it could be anyone.

Instead, it’s Chinese actress Yao Chen who agreed to live-stream from her home for local charity Free Lunch last Sunday, May 22. The fairly quotidian broadcast by Yao, who has more than 79 million followers on microblogging platform Weibo and starred in last year’s mega-hit Monster Hunt (China’s No. 2 movie of all time), went out live to 4.7 million people on Internet portal Sina’s live-streaming app called Yizhibo.___Live-Streaming in China

Google Spaces are a cool idea, I like the simplicity. There's lots of potential and I'll be using them, but where's the Google thought leadership on this? Apart from +Luke Wroblewski's posts (and ditto for G+ of course) I haven't heard a squeak.

If you don't talk about your product and explain why it's great, then no-one will care (again).

For me, these thoughts on Google IO echo a lot of my feelings about G+ and other past Google social things like Buzz (and now Spaces) IMO.

If you don't reach out and explain to real people why and how the shiny new product affects them, then they'll ignore it and use something that does speak to their needs.

I might not have to write my own summary, since this post pretty much reflects my own thoughts :)

Whats App & Google Drive

A study on scale: WhatsApp & Google Drive… the story of our integration

WhatsApp is one of the most popular mobile apps in the world, with over a billion users sending and receiving over 42 billion messages, photos, and videos every day. But what would happen if people lost or upgraded their phones? All these messages and memories would be gone. So we worked with WhatsApp to give their users the ability to back up their data to Google Drive and restore it when they setup WhatsApp on a new phone.

One of the challenges of this integration is scaling for so many users. How did we do it and not fall over? How did we make the integration as simple as WhatsApp itself? Check out our blogpost for some insight on the technical challenges and things we did to make it happen: http://goo.gl/pPIvkg

I like these thoughts from +Mike Crumpler on using Spaces in the construction industry.

Google Spaces could revolutionise the way I project manage in the construction industry

My initial thought of Spaces was "what's the point", and then I had a play around, and then I had an idea. My idea could actually make Spaces a mighty powerful work tool for me.

The Background

Currently in the construction industry we live in the stone age. Everything is discussed via on site meetings, individual phone calls or via lengthy emails. Getting answers can take hours, days or even weeks. Audits/snagging reports get produced, which can then take forever to have that info passed back to the team on the ground to rectify. It can be painful at times.

So here's the idea

1) Create a Space dedicated to a project/site
2) Share the unique Space url with team leaders, clients or other individuals involved
3) Add to the Space an update/question/photo regarding the project
4) Discuss each individual update/question/photo collectively with the team leaders/clients etc in real time with the dialogue tied to that item
5) Get the answers/issues resolved promptly, with quick easy access to all previous resolutions

This use case, for me, could create a mighty powerful discussion tool, getting issues resolved steadfast with all the relevant people kept in the loop. Sometimes emails and official reports are too drawn out, when all it really needs is a quick response from the right individual.

Do you think this could work? I would love to hear peoples thoughts on this idea. The downside I see is, will others be willing to sign up to use it? I hope so.

Spaces

I'll have to see this in action before making any judgement, but from the looks of it it's a mixture of communities + groups + hangouts + maybe slack. Let's see if they manage to do anything better than you can already do with other products.

Also curious if there's going to be any kind of API...
