Landscape Photography Show13,721*LPS Event #100: Straight to My Heart* *NOTE: This will be the FIRST event using the new G+ user interface. Your patience is appreciated and please report any problems or glitches.* *THEME: Straight Lines* One of the most powerful tools in photography composition is the straight line. Share a photo with a crooked horizon line and everyone cringes!! Share a photo with a strong leading line to the subject of the photo and you get rave reviews. Straight lines both horizontal and vertical are VERY powerful. They represent strength and boldness. Curved lines are more soothing and tranquil. Straight lines that intersect can show chaos. Several parallel straight lines represent power and order. *For this event, we want to see your use of straight lines. In the comments tell us about the straight lines that are used and why you used them. Be sure to include the location.* *Some links that may be of help:* http://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-use-leading-lines-for-better-compositions/ https://photographylife.com/straightening-the-horizon-and-aligning-lines http://www.digital-photo-secrets.com/tip/2759/visual-design-using-line-in-photography/ *Special Rules:* 1. Share your landscape photograph that displays the theme. 2. In a comment on the photograph tell us about this photograph. Where is this place located? What were you trying to achieve? What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them? We want to know the details about your photograph. THE COMMENT IS REQUIRED. You will have 1 hour after posting your entry to include an appropriate comment. Those entries without an appropriate comment one hour after posting WILL BE REMOVED. 3. Other participants will be discussing on your post and asking you questions. Please join the discussion on other photographs as well. 4. This event is all about PARTICIPATION and DISCUSSION. Please don't post a photo and leave. The LPS reserves the right to remove photos without your comment. *General Rules:* 1) Your photo MUST be ORIGINAL. If you post the work of someone else, you will be removed from the event. 2) You MUST have complete EXIF data for your photo. Within the event, select your photo and view it large. Look for the "photo details" on the right. It should be complete with the date the photo was taken, camera and lens information, ISO, f stop, speed etc. Photos that don't have complete EXIF data in Photo Details will be removed. Others will learn from seeing what you have done. 3) Only ONE photograph per person is allowed. If you submit more than one photo, all of your photos will be removed. 4) Circle the @114888971165518552849  page. 5) Photos must be posted no later than Monday, February 20, 2017, 10 am CST. Those posted after that time will be removed. 6) Curator favorites will be shared to the @105588730866970114510  page. Circle the curators and engage them in conversation. You will learn lots from them!! 7) Curators of the @114888971165518552849  and @1055887308669LPS Event #100 Straight to My Heart2017-02-06 17:00:00272

(en) For our last photowalk in 2015, we'll try and capture a beautiful sunrise. Let's meet before or after 7:30am, somewhere on Pont des Arts. And when the sun is beginning to be a bit high, we'll move to a café nearby.Sortie photo / Photowalk - Sunrise2015-12-20 07:30:0014
(en) Shall we go and see if Autumn had anything to show us? Let's meet on *Saturday 24th in front of RER station Cité Universitaire at 3:30pm* to go and explore Montsouris garden a bit. Heli V - Naisellisia yksinpuheluita11,094+Thomas Paris will be visiting Helsinki, so let's meet him and each other, wander around our lovely Helsinki, take some pictures and have fun. You are welcome to join us even if you don't have a camera at all :). We'll meet at 13 at the corner (nearest to railwaystation) of Vltava, Elielinaukio 2. Feel free to invite others too! Route proposal: http://the52photographs.fi/route1.jpg This is about 6 km and we surely can change it during the walk and so... I myself love to walk near the sea and I never get tired of those streets. There are also nice cafes by the sea (Cafe Ursula http://ursula.fi/kaivopuisto/, Mattolaituri https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mattolaituri/166211710057843, etc.) Another proposal if the route 1 looks boring: http://the52photographs.fi/route3.jpg (also 6 km) After that we could take a ferry to Suomenlinna fortress and spend a couple of hours there too. If you'd like to comment this route or sth else, feel free :)Photowalk Helsinki2013-07-13 13:00:0016
Thomas Paris28,671*Not a real event, just a convenient way to do note taking* _If you got an invite, it must be because you're in my circles of photographers in Finland. I'm not trying to spam you, just hoping to meet you._ *Paris goes to Finland!* Thomas Paris, that is. It's been too long since I've last been to the country of a thousand lakes and I'm going to remedy this. This summer, I'll spend two weeks in that most magical of places, Suomi. I'll be visiting old friends (most of them in Turku) and hopefully will enjoy Midnight Sun, but other than that my schedule is still fairly open. Which means, I can come and visit you, for a photowalk or simply to chat over a beer. And because I know Finns, you don't have to worry, I can do the chatting part for you :) So, any chance we might meet? Nähdään! ThomasParis goes to Finland2013-07-01 15:00:004

Takahiro Yamamoto3,321,120We'll finish our 366 project in several days! Are you happy about it? Or are you sad? Anyway, who not celebrate the fact that we're completing our missions! You can share two shots this time. *Please remember just two images!* 1) Your best or most favorite shot you took in the fourth quarter of 2012 (October- December). Add #Bestof4Q12Creative366  in the comment section after you post the image! 2) Your best or most favorite shot you took for the project this year. Add #BestofCreative366Project  in the comment section after you post the image! If you think those two tags are too complicated, forget them and just two of your images! But please add your comment in the comment section after you have posted them. *And if you are the one who failed to complete the mission and are thinking you are going to do it again next year, you can add your fav one you took for the project here!* One last thing: I have made this event "public." Through +Photowalk Paris, I got to meet people who were not only nice but also really talented. Sometimes they travel abroad and bring back some beautiful images. That's what +Olivier Londe did, as you can see in this video he made about his trip to northern Vietnam.
Thanks, Olivier, for sharing this beauty with us.

Four years ago, I was traveling to Northern Norway, to go on my first Northern Lights hunting trip. Not only did I did get to see them, a magical experience, but I also made some of my favourite photographs:
http://thomasparisphoto.fr/Norway
What I didn't expect, though, was I got a chance to experience the formation of ice in real time. And I still remember the ice crystals dancing around to their own music. Too bad I didn't catch in this video the sounds they were making but at least you can get the amazing visuals.

Flare play

#SOOC

It's not like me to play with flare, but that's one of the things I like about this exrecise, something I had realised when I was doing a #creative366project back in 2012: these self-imposed restrictions do help with creativity. Or more exactly, they make it necessary to look for new ideas and, sometimes, I find one. Not saying this image is anything special, but I do like the playfulness of it.

Impressions

#SOOC
Yes, this one is Straight Out Of Camera. It benefits from the low quality of the camera embedded in my smartphone. Which is fair game in my book. I had made another version, processed with Google Photos, which I did like, but I like the idea of showing what can be done SOOC better.

Art Nouveau study #SOOC

I shot quite a few frames for this one, thinking at the time I might end up making a #gif out of 'em. In the end, I decided to go with a single frame but was amazed at how much the position of the (fairly small) waves could modify the feeling I was getting from this composition. It struck me already with the second one I saw, with a darker band at the top that made the whole thing look much more ominous. Food for thought, I guess. So, should you be interested in seeing all those alternative versions, I've gathered them here:

Mike Johnston, in another one of his great posts over at The Online Photographer, hypotheses the following:

Analog anything always has the potential to be good enough, no matter how bad it is, whereas nothing digital is reliably ever quite good enough, no matter how good it is.

And I wonder if that might be the reason why I'm so satisfied with my smartphone photographs. Granted, that's digial so that's not exactly what he says, but his point is that we expect analog to be imperfect and therefore are more forgiving of its technical shortcomings. And I sure don't expect my smartphone shots to be great, with regards to sharpness, colour rendition and all that kind of stuff. Frees me to concentrate on what I think of as a lot more important, mainly composition.
Anyway, food for thought. As happens so often with MJ.

I don't know that Trump is actually plotting a soft coup, as I've seen explained in several articles recently, but he's certainly doing some damage to democracy in the US, willingly or not.
So, know that we hear your pain and you're not alone. I trust things will turn out OK in the end. Stay strong until they do.
