Jason T. Wiser21,781*Storytelling for Business Building with Chris Brogan* There’s a lot of talk lately about storytelling in business and for good reason. Stories help people to understand and relate to your business journey. Where did you get the idea? What was the first thing you did when you realized that you had a good idea? what worked? what was your biggest mistake?  This program is produced by http://ontracktips.com/storytelling-business-building-chris-brogan/ It’s the answers to these questions that interviewers love to ask because viewers want to experience the journey of the successful business owner. They want to imagine themselves walking this path and living this dream. But aside from telling your rise to the top story, what other stories can we tell as business owners? what other stories do people want to hear? That’s why I have invited @118320665823821681206  to “Get on Track, Stay on Track” because Chris is passionate about small business and he understands the value of telling story for branding, for marketing, for business. *Chris is the Author of* "Trust Agents", "Google+ for Business" "The Impact Equation" "Social Media 101" and the soon to be released "The Freaks Shall Inherit the Earth" http://jtw.bz/ChrisBr (affiliate link) Some of the questions I’m going to be asking Chris are: ⇒ Other than your rise to the top story, what day to day stories can we tell in marketing? ⇒ What are some of the best examples of companies that are using storytelling in business today? ⇒ How much of your personal life do you share in your business story? If this interests you, start asking questions now AND Invite 2 friends! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------   Did you click "Yes" on the event invite? "Wear your wedding ring. I don't care if it's uncomfortable or inconvenient. I understand the argument that wearing it doesn't make you more faithful. I understand some jobs require you to take it off for a time. But let's not forget, your wedding ring isn't to remind you that you're married. I'm pretty sure you're aware of that... Instead, it's a public symbol that you are off-limits to others. Other culture's have other symbols to indicate married and single status. But a spouse carrying no symbol in a culture that clearly has one, sends the wrong message to others, to your spouse, and to yourself. God makes it clear, if you're married, your body and your heart are not your own. You are spiritual property to one another. So, wear your ring. Protect your marriage. And let people see the boundary that sits on your finger." -Dale Partridge

They're Watching You!

I have learned that our kids are one of the barometers God has placed in our lives to help ‘us dads’ better answer these questions. One of the greatest gifts a dad can receive from his kids is a testament on the impact we’ve had in their lives. The journey has been long and the road rough, but I have been blessed to receive testaments from both of my kids; spoken and written.

From my daughter: http://heartstn.co/2ngt5KA

From my son: http://heartstn.co/2ngnL9T

Your children are always watching you, so dad’s and mom’s…be a living example for your kids! Remember, when character and integrity come into play, someone is always watching!

Why Adversity Can Distress Or Bless

Take a minute and think about your life and about some of the greatest lessons you have learned while walking it out. Not sure about you, but the greatest lessons have come through adversity, haven’t they?

"The bravest sight in the world is to see a great man struggling against adversity." —Seneca

It’s in the grittiness of life where we have the opportunity to face and overcome adversity which will build character, strength and resilience in us — if we let it. Every challenge and every difficult circumstance we successfully confront in the arena of life strengthens our will, our confidence and our ability to conquer future obstacles. The Greek philosopher Herodotus captures this in his quote, “Adversity has the effect of drawing out strength and qualities of a man that would have lain dormant in its absence.

What Guardians Of The Galaxy Can Teach Us About Fatherhood

Recently saw Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and it was just as enjoyable and fun to watch as the first one. I’m a big fan of the larger Marvel cinematic universe, but the Guardians of The Galaxy storyline is one of my favorites.

Spoiler Alert

I love the sci-fi mixed with humor theme’ing — even if Drax’s laughter feels forced at times. There is also the camaraderie, stunning visuals, and the of course the epic soundtrack. If you’re a fan of the last Guardians movie, there’s no reason to think that you won’t find this one just as good.

We have to start at the end and roll it back a bit to highlight one of the deeper themes in the movie. Peter’s (Star Lord) coveted Walkman gets busted and Kraglin (Yondu’s right-hand Ravager) gives him a “new” music player as a replacement. The epic joke is that he got a Microsoft Zune. Kraglin shares that Yondu always expected Peter to come back, so he picked it up for him while at a space junk sale. After being in awe that this new player can hold “300 songs?!” he scrolls through the menu and, like he did at the end of the last movie and fires up a track — “Father and Son.” from Cat Stevens

Let’s unpack the deeper theme of “Father and son” from the movie…

The trials of life, or our brokenness, or our wounds will at some point force us to face our need for one another. We all need that someone to lean on, that someone who will stand beside us and walk it out with us no matter what! We need people who will love us, who will walk into the wretched details of our lives.

What Redlining And The Sabbath Can Teach Us About Faith

Our lives are so busy and fast-paced that it’s easy to lose sight of what’s important. Is your life crazy busy? Is your schedule jam packed?

I recently listened to a series by Andy Stanley called “Breathing Room” and wow could I relate. Not having breathing room in my life almost cost me everything.

"Breathing room is the space between our current pace and our limits." -Andy Stanley

I was addicted to a high paced lifestyle. I always looked for my value, my self-worth, and my identity with position and success — selling my soul to my work.

This Day in History: “In God We Trust” restored to U.S. coins
By Tara Ross

On this day in 1908, Teddy Roosevelt signs an act restoring the motto “In God We Trust” to certain U.S. coins. His decision to sign this piece of legislation came in the wake of an incident in which he’d tried to have the phrase removed from U.S. currency.

“In God We Trust” was on U.S. coins for several years after the Civil War. Then-Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase had been receiving many letters from Americans: They wanted “recognition of the Almighty God in some form on our coins.”

Chase agreed with the sentiment. He wrote the Director of the Mint: “No nation can be strong except in the strength of God, or safe except in His defense. The trust of our people in God should be declared on our national coins.” The Director complied and suggested severaldesigns for Chase’s c... more »

The trust of our people in God should be declared on our national coins.” The Director complied and suggested several designs for Chase’s consideration. Ultimately, however, congressional legislation was needed before the U.S. Mint could make all the design changes that had been requested. In 1864, Congress gave the Mint this authority for one and two-cent coins.

What We Know About Leadership Is All Wrong…And Here’s Why

We are in week seven of our ten week Stepping Up series with our church men’s group. This weeks topic was about men ‘engaging with wisdom and grace’ or simply put — leadership. Why is leadership so important? Because most of us men (an women) have no clue what it really is.

When I say the word “leadership”, what does that mean to you?

At work it typically means this…

Being he boss. The perks. Money. Position. Power. Prestige. The applaud. That corner office. No one can tell me what to do. Those diplomas on the wall. Fill in the blank ____.

In the home it typically means this…

My wife must submit. My way or the highway. I’m the king! Going to “that” game is more important than being with your kids. Chasing things that we can give up. Working late.Working harder for that b... more »

In the home it typically means this…

My wife must submit. My way or the highway. I’m the king! Going to “that” game is more important than being with your kids. Chasing things that we can give up. Working late. Working harder for that bigger house. My kids need to do what I say, not what I do. Fill in the blank ____.

That’s what the narrative of this world culture would have us believe, isn’t it?

What if I told you that leadership had nothing to do with you and was completely focused on others? What if I told you that it meant that the buck stops with you? What if I told you it meant being out in front leading people in the right direction with wisdom and grace?

Have you ever thought of leadership in that context? In the context of servant leadership?

If you have thought about leadership in that context, great — if not, than that’s ok too because we are going to take it a bit further…buckle up!

Defining good leadership is not an easy thing to do. Yes, there are untold number of books and many self-proclaimed leadership gurus out there that make this attempt, but not many build a foundation on “this” type of true leadership. Do you know what it is?

Why Bilbo Baggins?

In one of my favorite scenes from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Galadriel turns to Gandalf and asks “Why the halfling?”

Gandalf turns to face the camera and replies: Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps because I am afraid, and he gives me courage.

A Very Happy Mother's Day To All You Moms Out There.
By Cathe Laurie

The job description was for Director of Operations, and the requirements went as follows: Standing for hours on end. Unlimited work weeks. No vacations. Must be a skillful negotiator. Degrees in culinary arts, finance, and medicine helpful. Oh, and by the way, there will be no paycheck.

Twenty-four people agreed to be recorded for an Internet video interview, but as the requirements became clearer, there were no takers—not one. The comments made by some of the interviewees were:

“Is that even legal?”
“I think that’s a little intense…that’s crazy.”
“That’s cruel, inhumane.”
“Nobody’s doing that for free!”

“Is that even legal?”
“I think that’s a little intense…that’s crazy.”
“That’s cruel, inhumane.”
“Nobody’s doing that for free!”

It was a new video for a “fake position” created by the American Greetings card company for Mother’s Day. The job was fake, but the interviews were real. The video is excellent, and when it was posted it went viral.

I watched it online and I laughed out loud. Then I wanted to cry. Because as the website states: “A mom’s impact is endless . . . so is her job description. It may be the world’s toughest job . . . but it provides the most extraordinary joy.”

I agree with that statement. OK, maybe not the part about it being the world’s toughest job. But I do happen to think they are getting pretty close to the mark. Even Jesus used mothers as an example when He looked for an analogy of suffering followed by joy:

“Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world” (John 16:21).

To be a mother is a call to suffer. It’s true.

A mother suffers when she brings a child into the world.
A mother suffers when her child gets sick.
A mother suffers when her child gets hurt.
A mother suffers when her child goes astray.
And perhaps hardest of all, a mother suffers when her child dies.

It is a huge responsibility to parent a child. Not just at the beginning of life, but also in the middle, and at the end. Because being a mother never stops.

However, being a godly mother encompasses much, much more than suffering. There is the promise of hopeful, relentless joy in this life and in eternity. Inexpressible, incalculable, eternal joy. We may work like crazy women but we can always rest in the Lord and in His strength.

I want to say to all mothers out there, run this “mother race” with joy. Run with all your heart, mind, and strength. Run for the Lord, who entrusted His children to you. Run for those children, that they may see your love and commitment to them. Run. Run. Run this race like your clothes are on fire! All heaven wants to cheer you on as you look toward the prize of hearing the Lord say, “Well done!” I want to cheer you on too!

But first, to our moms, we say thank you. We want to honor you for the things you’ve done. For the countless things that we selfishly never took notice of.

To those who may not have been our mothers, but who functioned like mothers and taught us by words and godly examples, hats off to you too! You are “mothers in the faith.” You cared, mentored, and prayed for us—to you we say thank you as well.

And to the rest of us moms in the trenches, let’s cast off the weight of comparing ourselves to each other, or to standards that are in vogue for about a minute. Cast off the weight of always having to have a perfect house and homemade bread dough rising on our spotless counters. Chill out about Instagram and reading mommy blogs and Pinterest. If these things help us, great! If they stress us out, frustrate, and whittle away precious time, let them go!

In doing so, we will free up more time and energy for important matters: God, family, and modeling love and holy living. Let’s run this race for the ultimate prize, forget what is behind, cast off the weights, and go for it—because this race is best run when we are fit and fleet.

That makes this mother and grandmother want to turn off the laptop, smartphone, TV, and leap off the couch. We only have this moment, and who knows for how long it will be ours? Carpe diem.

Let’s run together!

“Stop the world I want to get off”. Sometimes we all get overwhelmed and need to find the first rest stop from life, so we can get off the road we have created. Don’t let your day be directed by the circumstances of your life. Stop allowing your tomorrows be the next step in complacency with its predictable outcome. Make a change today and give God a chance to show you just a little of what His plan for your life could be. Breathe in a deep breath and release the secrets that have held you in chains for too many years. Give God one day to show you how big He really is. Spend your day thanking him for what He is about to do, instead of begging him to change the yield you created with your choices. One day with God changes everything. -Rick Evans

It’s True, God Does Care About The Details Of Our Lives

Wanted to share a page of my journal from the Winter of 2005. A little bit of the backdrop here…I was in the middle of going through divorce and these words are my reflections of a journey I took into the unknown.

As God allows me to see glimpses of this restoration throughout His creation, I’m blessed with a vision that He’s about to make all things new in my life.

I was led into the wintry depths of the forest on this brisk Sunday. For some time, I could not escape the vision of the lake I stumbled upon in my adventures last summer. I also knew that a milestone of this vision was finding a stone along the shores of the lake. Not remembering how far away the lake was, I instinctively set out to once again to stand at its shores, wondering what “stone” I would need to hunt for.

The Warrior Heart

I have in my files a copy of a letter written by Major Sullivan Ballou, a Union officer in the 2nd Rhode Island. He writes to his wife on the eve of the Battle of Bull Run, a battle he senses will be his last. He speaks tenderly to her of his undying love, of “the memories of blissful moments I have spent with you.” Ballou mourns the thought that he must give up “the hope of future years, when, God willing, we might still have lived and loved together, and seen our sons grown up to honorable manhood around us.”

Yet in spite of his love the battle calls and he cannot turn from it.

Courage Robbers: The Top 10 Things Men Fear Most

I am amped up to be one of the group leaders for a 10 week series our Men’s Ministry group is spearheading at our church called, “Stepping Up”. The marvel is that a library so perfectly cohesive

Over a period of time which staggers the imagination
Jesus is its grand subject, our good is designed
And the glory of God is its end

We Are a Chip Off The Old Block

God gives Adam some instructions on the care of creation and his role in the unfolding story. It’s pretty basic, and very generous (see Genesis 2:16-17). But notice what God doesn’t tell Adam. There is no warning or instruction over what is about to occur: the Temptation of Eve. This is just staggering. Notably missing from the dialogue between Adam and God is something like this: “Adam, one more thing. A week from Tuesday, about four in the afternoon, you and Eve are going to be down in the orchard and something dangerous is going to happen. Adam, are you listening? The eternal destiny of the human race hangs on this moment. Now, here’s what I want you to do . . .” He doesn’t tell him. He doesn’t even mention it, so far as we know. Good grief—why not?!

3 Feelings That Hold Men Back From Taking Initiative

Passing the half way mark, we are in our sixth week of our ten week Stepping Up series with our church men’s group. This weeks topic was about men ‘taking initiative’ and wow was it eye opening and inspiring.

The basic definition of initiate is to cause or facilitate the beginning of.

Pause and think of the men, both young and old, around you. In your family, at church, in your neighborhood, at work or fill in the blank __. Does the word initiative come to mind? Does there seem to be a lack of initiative in men today?

Hold onto that thought as we dig deeper into some great examples of men taking initiative. The list of great men who took initiative is long, but this session focused the three stories in particular.

Doss excels in boot camp, outperforming most of the other men, but standing his ground in refusing to handle a rifle causes tension with his peers, Army leadership and his drill sergeant (Vince Vaughn). Taking this position puts his future in the Army at the mercy of a court martial. His entire unit questions if he can serve his country and have their backs without carrying rifle into battle until he more than proves himself when his company confronts the Japanese in the Pacific theater.

Born Into An Epic
By John Eldredge

A Story. An Epic.

Something hidden in the ancient past.

Something dangerous now unfolding.

Something waiting in the future for us to discover.

Some crucial role for us to play.

Christianity, in its true form, tells us that there is an Author and that he is good, the essence of all that is good and beautiful and true, for he is the source of all these things. It tells us that he has set our hearts' longings within us, for he has made us to live in an Epic. It warns that the truth is always in danger of being twisted and corrupted and stolen from us because there is a Villain in the Story who hates our hearts and wants to destroy us. It calls us up into a Story that is truer and deeper than any other, and assures us that there we will find the meaning of our lives.

What if ?

What if all the great stories that have ever moved you, brought you joy or tears—what if they are telling you something about the true Story into which you were born, the Epic into which you have been cast?

We won't begin to understand our lives, or what this so-called gospel is that Christianity speaks of, until we understand the Story in which we have found ourselves. For when you were born, you were born into an Epic that has already been under way for quite some time. It is a Story of beauty and intimacy and adventure, a Story of danger and loss and heroism and betrayal.

The Key to a Strong Testimony
By Pastor Greg Laurie

For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. —1 Corinthians 2:2

I like to hear how people came to Christ. But to be quite honest, I don’t like it when people go into the gory details of their past. I have listened to some Christians share their testimonies who seem a little more excited about the way they were as nonbelievers than the way they are today. Then there are others who talk about how much they have given up for Jesus. They gave up this. They gave up that.

Don’t tell me about what you gave up for Jesus; tell me what He gave up for you. Don’t tell me what you have done for Jesus; tell me what Jesus has done for you. It is Jesus who has done the work. It is Jesus who matters. It is Jesus whom we are proclaiming.

A good, strong testimony will lift up what Christ has done for us. The fact of the matter is that all of us were sinners hopelessly separated from God, on our way to Hell. The same gospel came and transformed us. So we all have a testimony.

When the apostle Paul, who was a great intellect and a brilliant orator, stood before the great Roman leaders and other people of his day to present the message of the gospel, he often began with his testimony. Why? Because it builds common ground. It helps people to see there is a bridge for them, there is a way for them, and that they, too, can change.

You may not be a great theologian. You may not know all of the verses in the Bible. But you do have a testimony. You have enough that has happened in your life that you can say, “Here is what Jesus did for me.” And that is a good place to start.

Why Does Egypt Always Look So Good In The Rear View Mirror?

It was during this place of desolation, my journey to His Mountain that the Lord spoke to my heart with a resounding clarity; “Truth, love, obedience, and do My will!” This refreshing revelation would become the very foundation stones for the path that He was preparing before me, the path that I had to walk.

We felt like we’d been sent to death row that it was all over for us. As it turned out, it was the best thing that could have happened. Instead of trusting in our own strength or wits to get out of it, we were forced to trust God totally—not a bad idea since he’s the God who raises the dead! And he did it, rescued us from certain doom. And he’ll do it again, rescuing us as many times as we need rescuing. —2 Corinthians 1:9, 10 (MSG)

As I began to slowly release my grip of the fear rooted in my brokenness, the soft gentle wind of His Spirit began to prepare me for my exodus out of the Egypt I had created in my life. This journey would be brushed with plagues, an angry Pharaoh, many times of doubting God and overwhelming obstacles to overcome. Remember, it didn’t take much time for God to get the Israelites out of Egypt, but it took years to get Egypt out of the Israelites. I was no different.

There’s Only One Way To Face Life, And Here It Is…

I love the scene from J. R. R Tolkien’s “The Return of the King” where Aragon is desperately outnumbered. He looks fear right in the eye and finds the strength to inspire his men against what seems like an almost certain defeat against the massive forces of the enemy. Standing firm and riding in front of his army, he declares,

I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage of men fails,
when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship,
…but it is not this day! This day we fight!
By all that you hold dear on this good earth,
I bid you stand…

Sounds so easy in the movies, doesn’t it?
