In fact, Saudi Arabia is no state at all. There are two ways to describe it: as a political enterprise with a clever but ultimately unsustainable business model, or as an entity so corrupt as to resemble a vertically and horizontally integrated criminal organization. Either way, it can’t last.

All of us are racists. The question is do we enable and encourage it, deny and ignore, or actively try to overcome it?

Perhaps the most insidious form of undercover racism is the racial empathy gap, a phenomenon backed by a massive amount of scientific evidence showing that all of us see other races as less sensitive to pain than ourselves.

The pedant in me can't help but be irritated by this slogan. Electrons are everywhere as are protons, and neutron which all are building blocks for atoms, which then builds all the matter around us.

If they want to talk about electricity (which they are), it's about moving electrons that jumps from one atom to the other (current) which makes all the difference.

The revolution will be slow. And there are some obstacles along the way. One is the Saudi - Iran proxy war, and the other is the USA's continuous propping up of the Saudi regime (and not to forget the Egyptian military too)

Hard to believe it is 5 years since the Arab Spring. According to the Economist, only one Arab country has developed into a democracy - Tunisia.

If you haven't seen this, here's a logarithmic scale of the universe, with our solar system at the center, to the CMB and plasma left over from the Big Bang at the edges. Logarithmic scales are widely used when the numbers, or stuff, you use, has a large range. It makes things easier to read, and in this case, makes it possible to see the universe from our solar system out to the CMB.

This image was put together by Pablo Carlos Budassi, based on data taken by researchers at Princeton University.

"Nowadays, as several philosophers at the workshop said, Popperian falsificationism has been supplanted by Bayesian confirmation theory, or Bayesianism, a modern framework based on the 18th-century probability theory of the English statistician and minister Thomas Bayes. Bayesianism allows for the fact that modern scientific theories typically make claims far beyond what can be directly observed—no one has ever seen an atom—and so today’s theories often resist a falsified-unfalsified dichotomy. Instead, trust in a theory often falls somewhere along a continuum, sliding up or down between 0 and 100 percent as new information becomes available."

One of the many crappy features that comes with the new Google+.

As I've said before, I totally get that the new focus of Google+ is collections and communities, but - leaving aside the question of whether a totally new screen is needed for search - I can't be the only one who thinks this behavior is a little much, right?

Right now takes three actions and some scrolling to find a specific person from my circles. That seems like a lot compared to the search paradigm made standard by other apps.

The new Google+ web app has been iterating really quickly, so I'm hoping to see some more action for its mobile counterpart, bottom tab bar aside.

_

Side note: That search on the left is from my AP account - the "larger:" queries are from the time that I just stopped receiving emails in Inbox because I was out of space. Inbox didn't notify me, so I had to go to the Gmail interface to figure out what was up. That's for another post :P
