David Waddington2,952Sharing 500 Canadians circle. This circle is bigger and I tried to change it so that it was only 500 but when you delete someone from circle it deletes them from all circles. Really weird. I will share part 2 tomorrow but I honestly don't know who of the 668 are not included. If someone can help me fix this issue it would be appreciated because I would like to be able to include everyone that I can.If you are Canadian or living in Canada and not included in this circle leave a comment and I will make sure you are added to part 2.+Amanda Blain perhaps there are some Canadians in this circle that were not in the one you shared.Oh, for those of you that haven't filled out your profile page yet it is a good idea to do so. Stating in your profile the things that interest you will increase the possibility of you being added to circles. Not everyone adds people because they are Canadian.2012-10-15 00:26:015011506CC G+

David Waddington2,233I am sharing my circle for Canadians that are on Google+I try to add as many as I can. If you are not in this circle and wish to be added just make a comment. If your comment gets plus 1'd by me then you have been added. I will share this circle again at a later date with new additions.I also have a circle for users in Edmonton. If you are in Edmonton and wish to be added just note in your comment that you are in Edmonton.  I have added quite a few users from Edmonton in the last while. One thing I have noticed is many haven't filled out their profile. If you wish to have people follow you it's a good idea to fill out a profile and put it in why people might be interested in following you.Lets grow our circles!  :) #circleshare #circles #circlesharing #circleshared  2012-07-16 00:35:063512004CC G+

Susanne Ramharter8,399Friday is for sharing circles - here are my hand picked Top Engagers this is my 'go to' circle - it is hand picked and, if I had to limit my contacts to just one circle of 500, though I would certainly miss many people - this group would have absolute priority in my personal circle of 500.This group is international, smart, funny, and most of all, extremely nice and friendly, always ready to help someone new, speak words of encouragement, provide food for thought or just intelligent jokes. (very few cat pictures - but, occasionally....)Check them out, I can honestly recommend every single one!feel free to share, or recommend people that are your favorites2012-04-27 15:19:1512724317CC G+

Susanne Ramharter3,133Fridays are for sharing circlesto the new people who have put me in their circles: many thanks! Some of you I have already had contact with, to the rest, I would like to reciprocate with this circle. It is hand-picked, and contains people who are funny, intelligent, knowledgeable, and engaged. You will find information about social media, google+, as well as cognitive science, books, travel and art, some agitation against encroaching on civil liberties (SOPA, ACTA, censorship - mostly from me ;-) inspirational as well as snarky things, and yes, the occasional cat. But everyone here is friendly and has great things to contribute, so feel free to share the circle if you like.Have fun!2012-03-09 15:46:5631329919CC G+
Susanne Ramharter2,244To the many people who have circled me lately, thank you! Some of you are new to Google+ and looking for interesting people and conversations. My view is that being social is fun, enjoying good photographs is fun, snark is lots of fun.But sometimes I feel the need for a special kind of substance, people who consistantly provide intelligent posts and engagement. That is when I go to this circle.Warning: these are not necessarily the "cool kids" with gazillions of readers. But they regularly provide intelligent, thoughtful and often fun discussions. So if that is what you want, engage!Feel free to share, also, if you know of anyone I could/should add to this circle, please comment, otherwise, enjoy.2012-02-24 20:56:23119314CC G+

P E Sharpe14,199Blame Canada, redux...O Canada. A shared history, a shared circle. The Postmodern Condition is a small but significant tome: published in French in 1979 and translated into English in 1984, it is arguably the singlemost agent provocateur in the resultant march towards Political Correctness, AKA dispensing with grand narratives in favour of social relativism. Why am I telling you this? Well, let me point you to Wikipedia: "The Postmodern Condition was written as a report on the influence of technology on the notion of knowledge in exact sciences, commissioned by the Québec government. Lyotard later admitted that he had a 'less than limited' knowledge of the science he was to write about, and to compensate for this knowledge, he 'made stories up' and referred to a number of books that he hadn't actually read. In retrospect, he called it 'a parody' and 'simply the worst of all my books'.[4] Despite this, and much to Lyotard's regret, it came to be seen as his most important piece of writing." There's more, but I'll save that for another time.Without further ado, here is my updated and revised O Canada shared circle. Approach with caution. The editor of this circle accepts no responsibility for any global insurrections caused by any individual included in this circle, or for their anger at being circled by a bunch of G+ yahoos they don't know. #OCanada #sharedcircles #sharedpubliccircles +Shared Circles on G+2012-02-10 23:54:083001418CC G+

i love to listen to people who did the real world thing, and learn from it, refine it!
gimme nuts and bolts all the time!

you have refined the concept, worked out good detailing, but somehow tighten it up, with diagrams, do a snappier narration over illustrations, i need to do the same thing myself, so good on you to just do it, i needed a prod!

i would put an above ground pool in the middle, with foam board all around, and use solar absorbers to replenish, and build a bubble plastic tent around the tank and a circle of deep beds around it!

appreciate how you show the detailing, some good and some need better, like the 45 * pvc elbow should be inside the frame, and that frame, i see no lateral stiffening, you need some diagonal braces here!

nice detailing, sturdy for sure! nicely done video too, great music, happy growing!
i know a guy in this area he grows cukes all summer, and he has two large mounds of composted alfalfa with mini water sprinklers, larger drops in small circles, with the sides open to the generous summer breezes there, he keeps it very pleasant inside you can walk into the coolth inside, such a surprise as it was bright, but i don't recall if he even had shade cloth, i would even put up solar thermal in the top in summer, catch that heat in  flat absorber surfaces that heat my bathwater!!

when it get too hot inside, you could open a bottom window, with a top hinge, it would regulate itself, with a good free flowing exhaust!
i like the geo thermal aspect, but i wonder how much it does, when you don't have a loop, ie a continuous circular motion, a thermosyphon airflow pattern!
i talk about such things here: http://solarcomfort.wikispaces.com/, here is another guy who built a great combo; http://thenaturalhome.com/passivesolar.html  this one is genius, http://solarcomfort.wikispaces.com/Norm+Saunders+third+generation+passive+solar, also see my album on elegant natural energy creations, here: http://solarcomfort.wikispaces.com/Norm+Saunders+third+generation+passive+solar

I have used a big exhaust in the roof to take the heat out and use it to warm my shower water!

Tracking an aircraft : While there has been must consternation of the Malaysian airliner MH370 which has 'disappeared', the relatives of the people are understandably inconsolable. This does bring the whole tracking systems used into question. I decided to do some digging into the various technologies available. The system currently used is highly dependent on Radar, and a the transponder in the aircraft pinging back. Here is what I found.... it's open to discussion on cost etc, but there is a lot to digest.

Article Extract: ACARS Messaging : Modern aircraft can communicate with airline operations bases and sometimes with the headquarters of its manufacturers automatically to send maintenance alerts known as ACARS messages. It was this system that sent out the hourly pings, apparently over several hours, the sources said. (Reuters: http://goo.gl/SgVwXB) Honeywell detail... more »

A significant dump of wet snow across much of B.C.'s South Coast is causing headaches for travellers, after flights were delayed at major airports in Vancouver and Victoria began to run out of deicing fluid.
A spokeswoman for Vancouver International Airport said snow removal operations were in full effect Monday morning and the airport was fully staffed and equipped to handle the winter weather, but as of 11 a.m. PT there were close to 50 flights listed as delayed.
Some flight cancellations and delays are reportedly due to poor conditions at other airports.

I am surprised you did not mention the Russian satellite due to fall back to earth today.  Head's up for those on the Pacific Coast -- if you see something burning in the sky -- you may be witnessing sateliite re-entry.

VISION for the Media Sector: Everyone has access to a wide range of diverse and accurate information from sources that are transparent about their funding and which include in-depth analyses and honest debates about controversial issues.
Danger: A handful of corporations own the media and their influence is not transparent to viewers. Their intrinsic conflict of interest limits our access to diverse perspectives.
Opportunity: We can use the Internet to access diverse information, broadcast events and information instantaneously, share best practices as well as solution strategies, and explore issues and innovations with people all around the globe.

loved the opening visuals, what interval is that on the freeway?
also the pans at 1:38. and around 2:00, wonderful shots, and the skiers going over the hill, at 1:24, gorgeous!
the pans get a bit too fast maybe in the end, my stomach reacted, but keep on shooting, you got some awesome visuals, you had me mesmerised!

loved the tractor for pulling the passenger trailer, and the one for pulling skiers, versatile equipment, smart thinking!
very attractive house interior too, nice hot tub!
the pans showed a lot of jitter, but my puter is under strain of too many tabs open...

I'm not sure if this will work for everyone, but my good friend +Carolyn Madrid shared this amazing video with me.  This was taken in Peru last Friday from what I can find.  It's... pretty crazy.  Apparently UFO sightings in that country have gotten so frequent that the Air Force there is reopening their UFO investigation unit.

February 16 marks the end of a national Bee Week of Action. This week, more than 27,000 activists, coast to coast, delivered valentine cards to managers of Home Depot and Lowe's stores, and handed out bee education leaflets to store customers.

The actions, organized by Friends of the Earth, the Organic Consumers Association and 10 other groups, focused on pressing Home Depot and Lowe's to stop selling garden plants pre-treated with neonicotinoids. OCA and our allies also collected more than 650,000 signatures on petitions to Home Depot and Lowe's, and sent letters to the CEOs of both companies. Home Depot responded this week, saying that it is "working on" a policy to address neonics. We're hopeful, that with enough pressure, Home Depot and Lowe's will take these killers off their shelves and promote organic alternatives.

Our goal this week was to drawa... more »

Olympic coverage in 6 countries, compared

The Sochi 2014 Games actually start airing live in less than 12 hours in Canada (Thursday 6am ET) as well as some other countries, kicking off with slope-style qualifications. The Opening Ceremony is live Friday morning.

CBC is covering every event as a live stream, on-demand replay or mobile TV simulcast - for free, and without requiring a cable/satellite subscription. Canadians can choose between 12 concurrent feeds with English or French commentary or TV coverage on any of the channels listed in the table (also available as webcasts at http://olympics.cbc.ca , Android, iOS, Windows Phone and Windows 8).

CBC is effectively the first Olympic broadcaster giving equal coverage for cord-cutters and blurring the line between traditional TV and digital video. #GoCanada

Oregon's Mount Hood and Mirror Lake, as seen from the summit of Tom, Dick, and Harry Mountain at sunset. Shot this with my good friend +Brian Adelberg, check out his page if you haven't already.

One of the most vibrant sunsets I've seen in my life was going on to the left here - unfortunately the landscape was pretty boring in that direction. A bunch of color still bled into the sky to the north over Hood, though.

Reprocessed this guy recently. This is much closer to the scene we saw that night.

The title of this image referred to a very real situation. My tripod was lost immediately after this shoot - left it on the roof of my car like some kind of IDIOT, and lost it on Highway 26 driving back to Portland. Oh well, it was heavy and steel and now I have a carbon fiber replacement. And I have this image!

In fact, calling it a "car" seems like a stretch: it's more like a transportation pod beamed straight from the future, a narrow, electric, three-wheeled hauler that automatically leans itself sharply into turns. It seats just one — two, if you're working with particularly diminutive humans — and tops out at around 28 miles per hour. It does just 30 miles on a single charge.
The i-Road is fantastically maneuverable, able to take extremely tight turns at slow speeds. It's also super responsive, reacting quickly to your slight movements and able to stop on a dime. On the other hand (and as with many electric vehicles), acceleration leaves much to be desired. Whether by design or by default, because of the speed and range limitations, a local commute is probably as far as you'd want to push things. Toyota did note that the production i-Road would be faster — but by howmuch, ... more »

To test the hypothesis that the mystery illness was caused by radiation poisoning, the researchers took 20 ash trees and exposed them to various kinds of radiation for three months. Sure enough, the ash trees exposed to Wi-Fi signals showed telltale signs of radiation sickness, including a "lead-like shine" on their leaves, indicating the oncoming death of those leaves. In the Netherlands, a whopping 70% of urban trees are suffering from radiation poisoning, up from only 10% five years ago--understandable, considering the explosion in Wi-Fi use in the past five years.
Of course, trees in rural or even simply non-urban environments are pretty much unaffected, but theoretically, all deciduous trees in the Western world could be affected.
The researchers are planning several more studies to figure out the precise effects of radiation on plant life. In the meantime, they don't really... more »

One of the primary concerns about GE crops has to do with its resistance to glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup. About 85 percent of all our genetically engineered plants are herbicide-tolerant—designed to tolerate very high levels of herbicides, glyphosate in particular. These are the so-called Roundup Ready crops, alfalfa included.
As a side note, glyphosate-resistant alfalfa was approved even though more than 93 percent of the alfalfa crop at the time was NOT being treated with herbicides. There really was no need to make it Roundup resistant in the first place.
The Oregoneans for Farm & Food Rights5 estimates that Roundup Ready alfalfa results in the application of another 200,000 pounds of Roundup annually by American farmers. Monsanto is truly the only winner in this scheme, boosting sales of Roundup and selling GE alfalfa seeds for twice the price asoth... more »

The Pegasus, for example, was carrying a diluted bitumen called Wabasca Heavy. That variety has the second-highest sulfur content of the 29 kinds of Canadian crude oil and dilbit listed in a reference guide from Crude Quality Inc., which operates a website that tracks the chemical makeup of Canadian crudes.
Hydrogen sulfide becomes a problem only if it decomposes and the hydrogen atoms move into fragile areas of the pipe.
Pizzo said it works like this — An especially brittle area, like the seam weld region of the Pegasus, will draw hydrogen atoms into the steel pipe. The atoms congregate at the tips of cracks, where the internal stress is higher. Then they weaken the steel by creating larger gaps between the iron atoms that form the pipe. As the atomic hydrogen cluster grows, the pressure builds until the tip of the crack is extended. Then the hydrogen atoms move to the new tip, and the processr... more »
