The Webview Tag is a nice way to actively load live content from the web over the network and embed it in your Chrome Packaged App.

From now on, we can easily insert a CSS into a webview like we would do with chrome.tabs.insertCSS() in the last Chromium build.

A new Chrome API has been proposed and is named the chrome.storage.managed API.

It's similar to chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync, with the difference that its values are read-only and are pulled from the configuration policy source of the native platform (GPO on Windows, MCX Preferences on Mac, /etc on Linux) or from the Google cloud policy servers (managed from the Google Apps for Business pages). Extension authors can use these settings to provide configuration options for administrators, making their extensions useful for enterprise deployments.

If you go to chrome://translate-internals/ in the last chromium build, you'll be able to see some Translation Logs based on your browsing activity.

For information, the Compact Language Detector aka CLD mentioned in this page is a library that's used to detect the language of any UTF-8 encoded content. This doesn't require any internet connection and can easily be added to your C++ project or even Python. See http://code.google.com/p/chromium-compact-language-detector/

I expressly recommend you read this short blog post at http://blog.mikemccandless.com/2011/10/language-detection-with-googles-compact.html to learn more about this cool Chromium feature.

Auto-updated extensions are a cool feature. However do you know what is the frequency of these updates?

- 15 minutes
- 1 hour
- 5 hours
- 12 hours

As usual, you can tweak this default value by running chrome with the switch _--extensions-update-frequency=X" where X is in seconds.

Debugging WebRTC issues has never been so easy thanks to the new button "Create dump" available at chrome://webrtc-internals in the last chromium build.

The exported dump file contains peer connection updates, stats table data and stats data series that can be used for bug reporting and offline stats analysis.

An internal dashboard to help debug the Sync FileSystem API is now available at chrome://syncfs-internals in the last Chromium build.

For the moment, it only reports if Google Drive Sync Service uses XMPP or Polling. In the future, it could also potentially show:
- List of remote files and their status
- Local pending changes status
- [Start sync][Stop sync] button

If you're not familiar with the Sync FileSystem API which gives you the ability to automatically synchronize some content across clients via a cloud backing service like Google Drive, I'd recommend you give a read to http://developer.chrome.com/trunk/apps/app_storage.html#sync-filesystem

Chrome internal page chrome://flags has been improved lately to address user feedback in the last chromium build:

- Each experiment has its own permalink. It means we can now point directly to chrome://flags#enable-webp-in-accept-header instead of saying "Go to chrome://flags and look for the WebP Header flag to activate it"
- Separate sections for available/unavailable flags have been created to make it a little easier to navigate through all the unsupported experiments.

Here's what we know for now:

- Fox (the leader in Star Fox) was the first to have Haswell, the next Intel generation of processor microarchitecture.

Google Chrome Team is currently experimenting with a sample Chrome App called "Apps Editor" which is gonna use the chrome.developerPrivate Chrome API to load an unpacked Chrome App Project (a folder containing all your project's code basically) and synchronize it on Google Drive by using the chrome.syncFileSystem API. Obviously, you would also be able to export all your synced Chrome App Projects to your local fileSystem in order to work.

What it means is that my Chrome App's code would always be synced on my Google Drive (and its awesome revision history) - or any potential future backend storage behind the chrome.syncFileSystem API.

You can learn more about the public chrome.syncFileSystem API at http://developer.chrome.com/trunk/apps/app_storage.html#sync-filesystem and have a look at the chrome.developerPrivate API source code at... more »

Did this ever happen to you? It did to me.

You listen to a song with your headphones where the volume is such that you reached a point where you're literally in trance. While music is still playing, you put down your headphones for a rest. You come back later, forget you were listening to music and unplug your headphones.
At this point it's too late, the entire crowd around you has the high privilege to hear your loud music...

Thankfully last Dev Update of Google Chrome OS fixed that. Chrome OS now remembers your volume settings per device. It means your headphones, Bluetooth speakers and internal speakers volumes are independently saved.

- Right click or tap with two fingers on the page and select "Back" or "Forward"

- Scroll horizontally with one finger on the touchscreen

Last Dev Update makes Chrome OS a Bluetooth Smart Ready platform.

Main advantage of Bluetooth Smart is that it's Low Energy. Therefore when two Bluetooth Smart devices are paired, they use a small amount of battery power since the connection is dormant unless critical data is shared.
On the other side, Bluetooth Smart Ready devices can be considered as the central device, waiting to send and receive data from smaller devices around it.

- If you have pinned the Google Drive App and opened one document, two spreadsheets and one presentation (4 tabs), you can press <Alt> + 3 (if this is the third icon in your ash launcher) as many times as you want to toggle to the next possible Google Drive tab in the list.
- Last one but not the least. If you have multiple Chrome windows opened, you can browse them one by one by pressing <Alt> + 1 as long as you want.

If you were using some Chrome Commands in your Chrome App, you'll have to reconsider it since the Commands API is now reserved to Chrome Extensions only in the last Chromium build.

For information, the commands API gives you the ability to add keyboard shortcuts that trigger actions in your extension, for example, an action to open the browser action or send a command to the extension.
Go learn more about it at http://developer.chrome.com/trunk/extensions/commands.html

The HTML5 spec has just whitelisted the bitcoin protocol in order to allow web sites and web apps to register themselves as possible handlers for this protocol.

Therefore, it's now possible in the last chromium build to register your bitcoin app/site by calling navigator.registerProtocolHandler.
You may want to have a look at https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/URI_Scheme if you're about to create one.

And for those who wonder what is Bitcoin, watch What is Bitcoin?
