Two of the three dolphins which have isolated themselves in the Ratty River by Bunratty castle. They have now been there eight days. Attempts to lure them back out to sea have not been successful: they quickly returned on their own. According to the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group: "This small group represents around 3% of the resident Shannon Estuary bottlenose dolphin population, which is one of only four such populations in Europe. The state is obliged under the EU Habitats Directive to do everything within reason to protect bottlenose dolphins."
By mid-week there will be a new moon, and a subsequent low-tide, which could result in a live stranding of the dolphins. They are being looked after; hopefully there will be a happy ending.

Knight in the Woods
this is a composite of two photographs: the wood, which is in Coole Park here in Ireland, and the "knight" - a local archery expert. The wood is actually mature trees on only one side, so I flipped the image and blended the two to create a mature arc. PS CS6

Night Shade
A chiaroscuro image of tomatoes on the vine. Shot in window light with a negative exposure compensation. This is a technique I like to use to create the light and shadow. Does anyone else do that? And a little dodging and burning to enhance the "stars" of the leaves. I misted them a bit to reflect the light. I shot if pre and post mist, and the mist enhances the image, I think.
Chiaroscuro (Italian "chiaro" - light; and "oscuro" - dark) is a technique which visually depicts the contrast of dissimilar qualities. Tomaotes tasting of sunshine, shot in the dark :D

Beech mushrooms (so called because they are often found growing on beech wood). Lovely sweet/nutty flavour.
Shot in window light, 5dM2 50mm 1/30 sec f/7.1 at 400 ISO.

I needed to get a cooked egg nestled into the bowl of this dish, but couldn't get one to fit perfectly. The solution? I placed the non-heatproof dish over a pan of boiling water , covered it with a bowl, and steamed the raw egg right in the dish. Love to hear about other food photographer's / food stylists' creative solutions to shooting food!!
