Lasers Revealed a Legendary Lost City

The legend of the White City has captured explorers' imaginations for centuries; Hernán Cortés detailed his interest in the purportedly gold-laden metropolis as far back as 1526. But the Mosquitia region where it was rumored to exist is densely packed with rainforest, and the conquistadors never penetrated deep enough to claim their prize.

Modern archaeologists have been just as stymied. Mosquitia has been the focus of a half dozen intensive explorations in the last century alone, some of which have yielded signs of some ruins and mounds. No one, though, despite their best efforts, had found anything close to a full city structure.

The team of researchers from the University of Houston, though, had something none of those expeditions did. They had lasers.

I am curious to see what will they find in there.

John Titor: Hoax or Time Traveler?

A person named “John Titor” started posting on the Internet one day, claiming to be from the future and predicting the end of the world. Then he suddenly disappeared, never to be heard from again.

In late 2000, that person signed onto the Internet.
A poster going by the screennames “TimeTravel_0” and “John Titor” on a variety of message boards, beginning with the forum at the Time Travel Institute, claimed he was a soldier sent from 2036, the year the computer virus wiped the world. His mission was to head back to 1975 in order to snatch-and-grab an IBM 5100 computer, which had the necessary equipment to fight the future virus.

IS IT A HOAX?

My first reaction to this news was thinking that it was a hoax. While reading I realised that it comes with 'Stanford seal' which makes it no hoax.

Dr Steven Greer, who led the project and documentary, has hit back at critics who claim the body is a hoax.
'The CAT scan clearly shows internal chest organs -lungs and what  appears to be the remains of a heart structure,' he said.
'There is absolutely no doubt that the specimen is an actual organism and that it is not a hoax of any kind. 
'This fact has been confirmed by Dr. Nolan and Dr. Lachman at Stanford.'

So there we go .. they found something that is going to create an HUGE debate ....

Giving Money Makes You Happier

I was looking at this famous meme and recalled a study that says that spending money on other people may have a more positive impact on happiness than spending money on oneself.

Participants were given $20: half were told to spend the sum on themselves; the other half were told to spend it on others. It was the charitable half that reported greater happiness after spending their windfall, even though participants believed that spending on themselves would make them happier.

Similarly, in a representative study of American citizens, those who donated a greater proportion of their income were happier, as were workers who donated a larger proportion of their bonuses.

You see the meme it is actually scientifically accurate :)

Our friends at +EFPIA  got this post that really got my attention.

A computer algorithm has mapped all the possible carbon-based structures in the ‘small molecule universe’ that might be created as drugs in pharmaceutical labs— even chemical compounds that don’t exist yet.

We are getting closer to that +Star Trek replicator. :)

Basically it allows the touching that a person do on her smartphone to be replicated by a set of touch actuators on cloth.
