This is my Swedish bayonet m/1914.
Initially used on carbine m/1894 (Mauser), which were made without bayonet lugs and modified starting in 1914. Rifle m/1896 (also Mauser) had bayonet from the start, shorter and with other attachment. (The navy used the same carbine, but with an even longer bayonet.)
Later on this was used on SMG m/1945C, so I had on of these for my duty SMG for a while, but this isn't that one.
I don't know when this was made. It's marked "I 21" which was the regiment in Eksjö until 1927, another in Sollefteå from 1928. However, those were infantry regiments so most soldiers would have had rifles, so what I can infer of its history is that it probably was used by horse drivers.

Red Planet Blues, Robert J. Sawyer, 2013.
Mars, private detective, fossil hunting, mind transfer for some into robot bodies.
I've always enjoyed every book by this author, but I haven't always kept them for re-reading. Most of the mysteries in this one, except why the first person narrator is stuck on Mars, aren't hard to figure out, so that's not a reason to not re-read this novel. It's a keeper.

Kiruna Church, far north. One of only eight[1] buildings which will be moved when Kiruna city is moved east[2] because it's being undermined by the iron mine which is the reason the small city exists.
Inaugurated in 1912 as the first permanent church in the then new city. During construction its colour was debated: White, red-orange, same red as the bell tower, tarred, but ended up in the typical swedish cottage red "Faluröd".
[1] Well, one of the "eight" is actally a group of houses of the same type.
[2] Far enough that it doesn't have to be moved again for another eighty years. See also

My gear has now turned up two seemingly unrelated things, but they'er both actually to do with my, nowadays retired, Klättermusen Flinta (now retired) 35 L backpack (which many who saw said was the largest 35 L backpack they'd seen). It was the 1992-1997 model (current ones are a bit different), which I retired in 2014, see https://plus.google.com/101122032487345460693/posts/5NJU7kYWkvF
It was my hiking and long trip carry on bag because it compressed very nicely, expanded well, had a removable inner waterproof bag (made separate of clean/dry and the rest easy) and had a very good load bearing belt. So these side pockets (which "really" were made for larger packs) could go in the checked in luggage and on arrival the duffel stuffed in one of them.

The black bag served as one such check in luggage, but only once. I had something similiar with me, which broke. Not a problem during the trip since everything fit in the Flinta (without the side pockets), so I bought this one in Арха́нгельск and apparently only used once since it's still got its Aeroflot tag attached.___

The slotted buckles got explained, they're for attaching the Kifaru E&E backpack to a larger pack's webbing. Just like I've got a large pouch which can be attached that way to the E&E itself. Of course the ideal way would be compression strap-compression strap, but as it happened in the years between I bought these they changed buckle model.
The E&E was bought in 1998-2000, possibly the first thing I used Internet to mail order. Current model looks different, the large pouch doesn't seem to have a modern counterpart, but Kifaru still uses the way to hang internal pouches.

Shelf dump. What an extraordinary amount of stuff I don't use and I still didn't find what I was looking for.
Some of these things can be explained, the pouch to the far left is an old first aid kit, the wallet in the bottom right is me forgetting I'd ordered one just like it a couple of months earlier, the group of pouches in the middle were retired when a backpack was retired in 2012 and the plastic carabiner is a spare.
But when could I ever have needed that many MALICE clips, why is there an odd number of Tac-Ties, why are there four buckles without male counterparts (made in Farmingdale NY, incompatible with ITW), there's some sense in having multiple key hangers but the ones that are snap on are easy to move to another belt (and I've got another one like them in use!)?
