i once asked my dad why my paw paw always looked so stern and solemn, he said 'that's just determination, son, he's had a hard life'.  this is my paw paw and his mule, whose eyes are more piercing?  whose jaw is more set?  whose challenge is more pronounced?  he was a grand ole man who sat for hours on the front porch with me in his later years.  he went to town with us once (in the sixties- he was in his seventies) and saw his first mini-skirt...shoulda heard the comments about the world's morals nowadays.

when i was a kid (a day or two ago to be sure) we'd see these in the cow pastures and fields and looked like a football to us :), you learned quick not to be kicking them when dried out.  all the old folks dipped snuff and when we asked what the fog was that blasted from the shell, they always said 'aw, that's just the devil's snuff' :)
don't know any themes that like spores, so ...
bet most have never seen these, anyone who has will certainly remember :) hope you like this everybody.  have a great weekend.

something new to me.  i had never seen an angel trumpet until my friend +brendasue watson shared one on g+.  told my sister, she had one, and gave me 4 cuttings of hers and i set them out first of spring this year.  3 are about a foot tall and healthy, this one amazed me.  the porch is 4' high and the post behind the flower is a 4 x 4.
don't really know where to submit it but wanted to share it.  i was impressed :)

so many tragedies in so short a time sometimes cast shadows on our daily lives.  the twin towers on 911, and it was a 911 call to us all, dachau,  the horrors there.   many senseless acts of evil and terrorism that threaten to overshadow our very existence and beliefs allow the few to dominate the many for a moment in time.  our time here has been brief compared to the whole and we must remember that each of us is a part of all there is and concentrate on being a good part of that whole not a hole in that part.
i humbly submit this to remind us all to be a part, to do our part, everyday.
