Well we finally made it back From Vegas, it was an interesting trip. last night there my wife final convinced me to gamble some. I did not understand half of the game of craps, but my wife and one of her coworkers did their best to teach me. I must admit they did a good job I walked away from the table with about $150 dollars more than I walked in with and that was after a couple of hours of playing.

Now back to the important stuff. on my fourth day I rented a car and drove up to Valley of Fire. It was cloudy and windy but it was well worth the trip. below are a few images I took in VOF. I wanted to try a new post process on these and I think they came out OK, I know I will be playing around with them more.

Day #2 in Vegas

My Wife did it again she decided to go to Red Rock Canyon just west of Las Vegas. luckily our Friend Chris was able to join as well. We started out just thinking we would drive the scenic route and stop off at anything that looked interesting enough, we arrived around 10am local time and stoped at the first pull off. Heather and Chris did wonderful. we hiked down about a 1/4 mile and watched a dad teaching his daughter how to rock climb. she was doing really good. after that Chris and I did some small climbing/Scrambling up to the top and posed for a few shot from the floor. we continued on around the scenic route stopping every so often to grab a few pictures and to just enjoy the view. I had been talking about hiking into the Ice Box Canyon trail up to the water falls and had heard it was tough in the last half mile or so. Well we got in around lunch local time, spent a hour or so getting to the MGM Grand and getting checked in, found the best Mexican restaurant i have ever eaten at (including in mexico) took a quick nap to recover some energy and started the typical tourist activities. I have no desire to gamble so my wife was kind enough to walk up and down the strip for hours as I people watched and took pictures. these are a few images from my first day. Tomorrow is either a quick run to the Grand Canyon or Valley of the Fires, it depends on what my wife wants to do since this will be her last day without conferences. then I am off to Valley of the Fires and Red Rock for some solo shooting. Well we are less than a week away from Las Vegas. I will be flying on Sunday Morning and my wife does not have her first conference meeting until Tuesday, so we should have a day and a half of real free time.
For her off days I thought we may rent a car and head down to +Grand Canyon Skywalk but I have read some reviews where people are complaining about not being able to take pictures and the view is not as great as it is advertised.
If anyone has been to the SkyWalk let me know your impressions of it. Not sure I want to rent a car and drive that far in one day yet.

Valley of the Fire is on my list also and I have found lots of information on it, but I wanted to ask if anyone has any secret location for arches (if there are any) and for sunrise or sunset shots.

Well it is official, I will be in Las Vegas for a week. March 17th - 22nd. The wife is going out for a convention so I should have plenty of time to get some pictures in while she is stuck in her meetings. Besides I don't want to fly across the country to sit in a casino or motel room all day, and going to the normal tourist traps  aren't high on my priorities. 

So if anyone is from Vegas or just knowledgeable and have suggestions on good places to photograph let me know. Currently I am researching Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and Valley of Fire State Park. I am very excited about maybe getting some sunrise or sunset shots in the desert or maybe some arches or maybe some caves for during the day.

Also if there are any art exhibits or galleries that are a must see let me know also.

Ok My Wife has just officially become the worlds best wife. Today she just handed me my christmas present early, A brand new Canon 5D mark iii.

I have been saving up for months for a Mark ii and when she had it delivered to the house I thought maybe she had got me a mark ii, but when I opened the box and saw mark iii on the box I almost screamed like a little kid. I have no idea how I can ever top this present, I guess now I have to make amazing images to earn this one.

Now for a marathon session on learning all of the different setting and best setting for my shooting style. Also on a side note LR 3.5 will not import the raw images from the mark iii, now I have to figure out how to do that or upgrade LR to 4

Good Morning G+. I am heading out to Savannah, Ga. This weekend to visit family and wanted to take some time to take some photos.
I don’t know a lot about Savannah and I will have a limited amount of time, so I am asking for some suggestions on where to start to get 
some good shots. Also if there are any Savannah shooters out there that want to meet up for coffee and maybe a photo walk let me know.
If you know Savannah or know someone from Savannah let me know where the best photo locations are.

I should be arriving Saturday Morning and leaving Sunday afternoon but other than that I don’t have any definite plans.

Watching LTTL on Tuesday night, +Tyler Finklea typed into the chat box, "So, Robin, I'll bet you're not multi-tasking now!" referring to an earlier joke of how I like to edit during hangouts on air. You see, we were watching the ama-a-a-azing +Tanya Rochat and her incredible matte work. 

Six minutes later, I wrote back, "I'm doing a matte painting."

I think she thought I was kidding. ... ;o7

While I was watching, I was reminded how much I loved doing these. Heck, I used to teach aspects of it! It had been too long. Thank you for the jump start, Tanya!

Slow Burn To Ecstasy

I really feel like I am getting the hang of the landscape photos!!!  All of the practice I have been doing is really starting to pay off and I feel like I am doing better and better each time!!!

This was the sunrise in NM a couple of weekends ago.  You can see the low hanging smoke-haze... and it crept up the horizon too.  Plus with the clouds in the sky... JUST WOW!

Well I finally got a week off, I rented a pro series lens and I'm packing up the jeep, heading to Destin, Fl. When I turned on the weather channel to check my weather for the trip I found out I am in a race to see who can get to Destin first, Me or Tropical Storm Debby. Oh well at least I will be at the beach. :)


If any G+ poeple are in the area let me know I have a feeling I will not be on the beach as much as I thought.

This is my submission for +Selfy Sunday. I don't think I made the cut off for making it into the album, but maybe next time. This is me after a full day with the kids in the pool, then while they are taking naps before dinner the dogs and I sit and watch the sun slowly drop behind the tree line. I hope this selfy does not scare off too many of my circles. 

Happy Father's Day to all, and take small amount of time to send good wishes to those father that can't spend Father's Day with their children and love ones.

Is it possible to move an image from your "Photos from Post" album to another album? I can move other images between my other albums but I don't seem to have that options on the "Photos from post"

I have always been terrified of wedding photography, I have even turned down request to do the photos for a few weddings. This weekend I had the opportunity to tag along on two separate weddings. as much out of my comfort zone this is , I had to give it a try.
I really enjoyed every second. I thought hiking into the woods for a few hours both ways was a tough photo shoot, Man a wedding is an all day marathon. My legs actually hurt from squatting all day Saturday and all day today, and that is rather embarrassing consider I pride my self at least a moderate hiker. I just hope I got some usable shot for the bride and groom and the photographers that where nice enough to allow me to join them. 

Below is a shot from today's wedding. I hope to upload some more images soon, but for now I need food and sleep.

My 7 year old testing out the 24-105 lens I got today from +BorrowLenses.com 
After shooting 99% of all my images with a nifty 50, a L series lens feels carrying a brick. I really think the lens hood weighs more than my 50mm. I can't wait use both the 24-105 and the 70-200 at my first wedding this Saturday.

I also wanted to submit this for Women Wednesday, Everyday she grows up faster and faster.
