Sunrise. Stayed at a campground named "Jumbo Rocks". I think they got the name right. It looked like the neighborhood for the Flintstones and the Rubbles. Joshua Tree National Park, CA.

Rain approaches from across the desert. One can smell its arrival ten minutes before the drops reach your skin.

Not a bad view for ten dollars a night. Sunset over Joshua Tree National Park, California. I love the clouds in the desert.

Time to hit the road again. Civilization is causing my mood to be less civilized. I'm heading off to the desert for a few days. Load my beast, built a playlist or two, then tell work to survive until I get back. I'm looking forward to seeing more stars at one time than I've seen in the last five months combined. Wish me luck and let me know if you get into this kind of mood sometimes too.

Two golden hours somewhere between sunrise and sunset. Both are set with 60 diamond minutes. No reward is offered. They are gone forever.

I had to repost this because +Barry Blanchard got me in a donkey mood. Sleeping at the beach this weekend, hoping to catch a nice sunset.

I need to get out of the city for a while... I need to go where the stars live.
Taken Christmas Eve 2011, in Death Valley.

It is not light that we need, but fire; it is not the gentle shower, but thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the earthquake. - Frederick Douglass

I need to get myself somewhere with much less cell phone coverage. Taken last year around this time. Half-dome and a nice snowy day.

Work has been taking up all my photography time lately, but I managed to get this one while taking product shots for my day job.

I want my "ignore" button back in Notifications. First they took away my ability to scroll back through people that added me beyond the last 10 or 20, now this. If I wanted a crappy interface, I would go to facebook.

Here's the result of my first sunset time-lapse using my GoPro camera attached to one of my tripod legs. Love to know what everyone thinks. I already know the horizon isn't straight, I'm working on improving the mount.

Fishing provides that connection with the whole living world. It gives you the opportunity of being totally immersed, turning back into yourself in a good way. A form of meditation, some form of communion with levels of yourself that are deeper than the ordinary self. –Ted Hughes

Caught these two while shooting the sunset at Pescadero Beach. This is a "second body" shot. I usually shoot sunsets with my D800e on a tripod, and use my D4 with a longer lens to catch other moments while waiting for the sun to set.

+Barry Blanchard, caught in the act at Pescadero Beach.

Photography rockstar +Michael Bonocore, staring into the sunset. I believe +Barry Blanchard was photographing the sunset reflected in his glasses at the same time. +SmugMug

Based on the forecasts, today had a good chance of being a washout, photo-wise. Luckily for those who to the optimistic path, it all worked out in the end.
Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco from the morning of Jan 6th, 2013.
Taken with a Nikon D4 and a 24-70mm at 48mm. 1/800 sec at f/2.8. Processed with Lightroom 4, Nik Silver Efex Pro and Nik Dfine.

Storm painted skies over the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. Thanks to those who gave me the motivation to get up and see this sunrise this morning.

A whole lot of photographers at Sutro Baths this evening. I was happy to be amongst them. The sunset also proved a cooperative subject.

Sometimes the last few drops of light are the sweetest. This one was deep into the blue times.
Thanks to +Barry Blanchard and +Ed Sweeney for getting me out there, even if we shot from different locations. Bonny Doon Beach, Northern California.

Others had taken the high ground, so I staked my claim on the waterline for my last sunset of 2012. I think my next house needs more scenery in my commute. Bonny Dune, California.

Re-sharing this New Year's Eve sunset in B+W. Along the Northern California coast near Bonny Doon, CA.

Sometimes I just see a sunset in Black and White. This is from one of those times. Earlier this evening, Bonny Dune, California.

Here's +Barry Blanchard taking photography to another level, or is that altitude. We arrived together, but I chose to shoot from the beach and Barry took the high ground. That's one way to keep the salt spray off your lenses. Don't worry +Ed Sweeney, I got one of you, too.

Sometimes they get a bit of snow on the roads inside the park. This shot was taken on Highway 120 inside the park, on the way into Yosemite Valley. The park had been closed for the first time in 13 years. We wanted to stay, but the camping areas were under seven to fifteen feet of snow and the park was without power, so they sent us away. We did get a beautiful day of shooting in before we had to leave.

Yosemite's best season is winter. Don't tell anyone. I may be heading up there tonight, since it's the first day of winter.

Hi, I'm Mike, and I'm based out of San Jose California. I love travel and photography, and use both as an excuse to get me out from behind a keyboard and screen. I'll shoot anything...
