This is even true in the technological circles like computer architecture. Nearly everything we have built to date is designed to deal with structures that have remained nearly unchanged for 25 years or more, and disruptive changes to those assumptions are either here or are imminent. We will do a lot of re-thinking in the next few years.

This is good news. Except that it's on Fox.

Mothers get to a point when their children are in mid-teens that they feel like they aren't needed or even wanted. This appears to be a natural part of the flow - the kids are trying to assert their complete independence from parents, and the mothers are seeing them doing the most dangerous things they have ever seen any child do. If anything, this is the time they both need each other the most. The children need to realize that their mothers are wise and experienced and can help in many unimagined ways. The children can help their mothers see their value in having helped (and continuing to help!) create these wonderful new people who are bursting forth into the world. All of this was made possible by the love, tutelage, care, feeding, and mothering they got throughout their first decade and a half.

This has nothing to do with Linux... be warned
He's starting to lose us here. He seems to making some kind of point about the redesigned UI of Visual Studio 2012, but we're not sure. Let's keep moving.
It's been a week like that, from a couple of unlikely sources. :)
At this point, we'll spare you the clicks and spoil his surprise: the two sources he's talking about are The Financial Times and The Economist, each of which recently ran a story describing Windows 8 as a "failure" and suggesting that the forthcoming update, codenamed Blue, is Microsoft's attempt to apply the brakes before it turns into an out-and-out disaster. They were hardly the first.

Good for you +Elon Musk. WTF does oil drilling and pipeline building in Alaska have to do with immigration reform? Nothing whatever. One nice thing about special interest groups is that you don't have to defocus your special interest if you choose not to. Apparently some chose to do so, and some whose eyes were on the original goal need to leave.

Let me preface this with the statement that we hardly ever drink. At all.
However, last night, my wife +Theresa Maher and I drank a nice cocktail while preparing dinner. We then drank some more during dinner. Then we sat down and watched French Food at Home with +Laura Calder on TV. Ms. Calder's wonderful show inspired us to create something for dessert in our somewhat drunken state. This delicious flourless chocolate cake dressed sloppily with whipped cream is the result. It was delicious.
We drank even more along with the cake. We had a delicious blast last night.

Yes please! As much fun as it is to be in the secret club knowing all of the secret words, it's bullshit and wastes everyone's time and brain capacity to remember all that crap.

Oh Douglas, we are so lost without your guiding light.
This is particularly true of teens.
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

They want to have fun.

This is one more thing that makes me think the future of writing and reading is bright. Bricks and mortar aren't required for bookselling anymore, but sell they do.

While waiting for my flight to Singapore, I wandered around Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The departure/arrival gates makes one feel like they are in a sci-fi space port. Processing the photos with HDR makes this seem even more so to me.

Peter Diamandis Ted talk: abundance is our future. Here are my favorite two quotes from this Ted talk.
“I’m not saying we don’t have our set of problems, we surely do. But ultimately, we knock them down.”
"we redefined what poverty means, think of this, in America today the majority of the people under the poverty line, still have electricity, water, toilets, refrigerators, televisions, mobile phones, air-conditioning, and cars"

I disagree vehemently with the first sentence of this article: modularity is vitally important in furniture #design.
And I quite like this modular shelving system too.
Assuming it's fabricated sustainably, I give this an A.

This guy +Elon Musk is the shit. I really love his approach. He believes in what he's doing, is doing it carefully so as to make that belief possible, and he's going to Mars before he gets too old. When I grow up I want to be just like him.

More money means we all get richer in the future. I want that future and not the one where we sit around in polluted and constrained environments and war over resources on this planet.

All this ignorant talk about what you can't do on chromebooks used to make me angry. Now it makes me laugh.
So I was wondering...What is your favourite chromebook feature that the windows/mac crowd doesn't have and puts your chromebook above these other machines?
I have to say that mine is the ease of moving from one chromebook to another. Recently the wife had to replace a faulty ARM CB. When then new one arrived, it took her 1 minute to have her new ARM set up and good to go.
I don't even want to remember the lost time from my life, that I would never get back, when I had to set up a new windows PC.

+Bill Gross 's Solve For X video reminded me of the project I am currently working on (see below). Our approaches have so much in common. The only difference is, he is working on utility scale, my work is on integrating this into the design of houses built with 3D printers.
