I have always told them not to worry, but the truth is I carry a “faulty” gene, BRCA1, which sharply increases my risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

My doctors estimated that I had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer, although the risk is different in the case of each woman.

In the three years since it first provided images of the sun in the spring of 2010, NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) has had virtually unbroken coverage of the sun's rise toward solar maximum, the peak of solar activity in its regular 11-year cycle. This video shows those three years of the sun at a pace of two images per day.

SDO's Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) captures a shot of the sun every 12 seconds in 10 different wavelengths. The images shown here are based on a wavelength of 171 Angstroms, which is in the extreme ultraviolet range and shows solar material at around 600,000 Kelvin. In this wavelength it is easy to see the sun's 25-day rotation as well as how solar activity has increased over three years.

TLDR: I'm getting tired of messages of random men and women contacting me for dating, when they actually want to contact someone else named Idrialis or using Idrialis as a nickname

People often say that Idrialis is an "original name" (or weird), and that having an "unique" name and  being geek is fantastic, because that way I can get my own name in most of the services without worrying about not finding it available; and yes, that's true. Everytime I join an online service, my name as username is always available; but this can be also a pain in the ass. 

If you type my name in a search engine, 80% of the results are related to me.  I never payed attention to this, until 2 years ago, when someone made a public post in Facebook with specific detail of my  public and privatesinc... more »

This video shows a realtime recording of the 3D micro printing process by two-photon polymerization. We start with the CAD model of a Hellcat spaceship from Wing Commander Saga and use our 3D printer Photonic Professional GT to print a polymer model on the microscale. The final structure is then inspected with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Overall printing time was less than 50 seconds for the ship with dimensions 125µm x 81µm x 26.8µm (l x w x h). The length of the spaceship is approximately equal to the diameter of a human hair.

Hace ya casi 2 meses, mi teléfono SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 que adquirí nuevo a finales de junio en una operadora de RD (la operadora no tiene que ver nada con este rollo), misteriosamente dejó de funcionar. La batería estaba cargada al 97%. Había hecho un check-in en +*****  y chequeado mi correo de +Gmail. A los dos minutos, quería ver la hora y presioné el botón de Home, la pantalla no hizo nada. Presionó de nuevo, no hizo nada. Presioné el botón de Power no hizo nada. Ahí me di cuenta que el teléfono estaba apagado. Presioné las demás teclas, no hizo nada. Le removí la batería y la volví a colocar, no hizo nada. Tomé una batería de otro Samsung Galaxy S3, la probé en mi S3 y mi no hizo nada, mientras que mi batería SI funcionó en el otro teléfono. As part of an experiment at the University of Minnesota's Institute of Child Development, Sapiro and Papanikolopoulos set up a series of five Microsoft Kinect sensors in the playroom of a school. There, the motion-detecting cameras recorded the movements of the children, aged 3 to 5, and sent the collected data to a series of PCs. The computers then calculated what children were most at risk for autism based on their hand movements and activity levels. Children whose activity levels differed greatly from their peers were flagged for further study by medical professionals.

This could work. I recently watched a video Google made of the highlights of 2012. I'd forgotten 80% of them and they were all inspiring and awesome.  It would be nice to have something like that but personal eh?
