If you've ever been to Multnomah falls, chances are you were there with hundreds of other people. On this cold, raining morning, at 5:51am, I had the whole place to myself. There's something pretty special about that. Cheers.

I didn't make it around the final bend on Oneonta Canyon.
I tried mind you, but I didn't make it.
Just as I started worrying about the water being deeper than my waders, I suddenly realized that my camera pack was half way under water.
Dumb luck kept the only flooded compartment to the one I had pulled the lens out of.
Cheers to applying for equipment insureance.

Having seen some great images of lupines this year from some other photographers, I decided to roll out after work yesterday and see what I could find.
The first thing I found was a rattlesnake who seemed not to like my truck very much. Luckily, he backed down and went his own way. The altercation left me very cautious however as I hiked through the tall grasses on my way to the Lupine.
Seeing the eastern shores of Folsom Lake blanketed in purple was pretty special, but I would have to say that the fresh flower smell was even better.
I wasn't fortunate enough to have any clouds, so I minimized the sky and chose to go with some side lighting instead.
If you can, I suggest you find your way over here and see this beautiful landscape for yourself. Super blooms like this only happen every 8 years or so.
Cheers,

Not quite the epic sunset of Shasta with a lake reflection I was going for, but sometimes when life gives you mountains "peaking" thorugh the clouds, you make a photograph. Well, that analogy didn't really work. :o)

The natural world is simply amazing.
A hundred year old tree, the sound of water falling from a mile away, rays of light traveling millions of miles…
I must have stood here looking at this for forty-five minutes, listening to it. Watching as the rainbows came and went, as the water fell down over the tallest waterfall in the United States, always different with the shifting wind. I must have taken 50 photos without moving my camera, and they're all different. The breath you take in a place like this is a whole different thing altogether. Sometimes, when I'm in the grind, I feel like I'm running out of breath altogether, and then I get to a place like this… and I can breathe.
Sitting here now looking at this image, I see the tree growing out of the cliff on the left side of the image, and I'm even more in awe. I hope t... more »

It’s a crazy notion to think that this world could be anything we choose it to be. I get lost in the minutia sometimes, nitpicking this and that, and allowing little distractions to take away from the beauty of it all. Standing up here though, on this headland, looking down at what man dared to dream, I remember to see the forest for the trees. I remember to use my imagination, and to appreciate what can happen when the best of mother nature and man come together. Standing here as night shifts to day, I realize, this is a dreamer’s world, and I should make the most of it.
Cheers.

Yesterday I stumbled across one of my images being used by Microsoft on their Bing Search page as the background where they also offered it as a free Bing desktop download. They had purchased the rights to use the image back in November, but I had no idea how/when/where they would use the image. Yesterday, it popped up on every windows phone in the world, Windows 8 computers at all major retailers, was seen by roughly 10 million people on Bing Search and was “liked” by over 7100 people. One comment on Microsoft’s Bing Facebook page said: “best photo by Bing I’ve ever seen”. As you can imagine, it all felt pretty awesome. Anyway, I figured I’d share my excitement.

Sometimes I feel like we tend to overstate a lot when explaining or describing things to people. I was listening to Lous CK a while back and he was doing a bit about people using the words "awesome" or "amazing" to describe a sandwich. His point was that by the time you actually have something in your life that inspires awe, you'll have wasted the word on a sandwich, and will have no words left with enough meaning to describe your wedding day or your first born child for example. That being said, this sunset in Napa back in November of 2010, maybe have been the most beautiful I've experienced as a photographer or otherwise, and it sure as hell was awesome. I hope you enjoy, and cheers.

Growing up in Idaho, I saw the Tetons on a fairly regular basis. Recently however, I trekked to the Eastern side of them specifically for photography. While there were no clouds to be found, the view was spectacular regardless. I can’t wait to head back again and try for some epic sky color.

A newer shot from Yellowstone in earlier October. Overlooking a bend in the Firehole river, a stormy sky parted just enough to let the setting sun light a blazing glow across the river valley. In the distance, geysers erupt and steam fills the air.
