I'm just curious to see what happens these days when you share a circle. This one is made up of people involved in social media. Most of the circling I did for this was in the first half of 2012, so it will tend to be people who've been here for a while. ||2013-01-30 15:55:08||232||11||4||21||CC G+|

This is an update of a circle I shared in March, adding 30+ people and removing a few. This circle is fairly large, so it's aimed at people who are interested in following social media and are just ramping up here on Google+. Here's what I can tell you about this circle:* It has a bunch of really good people in it; lots of intelligence on the topic of social media. * It's 90% people actually working on social media, but there was a week or two that I temporarily opened it up to also include people who were just interested in social media. I then tightened the criteria back up, but didn't go back and try to pull out those folks who were just interested in it. It's by far the minority of people in this circle though. Most are actually working with social media as part of their job. * Sharing this circle may end up causing me a lot of headaches with some people wondering why they weren't included. Again - the filter here is "people working in social media." So please keep that in mind, and accept my apologies in advance if I neglected to tag you properly for inclusion in this circle. I'll be sharing it again in the future, so feel free to let me know (nicely please). Also, let me know if I'm missing key folks besides yourself. Thank you. OK. That's it. Enjoy this group. I do. #socialmedia #socialnetworks||2012-05-17 01:46:21||220||26||22||34||CC G+|

As with the green circle I just shared, this one's bigger than 500 so not everyone is here. And just as with the greenies, let us know if you think you should be in it. The common denominator here is interesting content of no particular bent. Just plain fascinating. I can sit and go through this stream all day. |Gideon Rosenblatt||36,811||Under 2K, Interesting, Original People CircleLooking for some new voices? People who share good content, but who don't have huge circles of people already following them? People in this circle:* have less than 2,000 people circling them* have interesting and original insights and content they share publicly* engage others in civil, respectful ways that build communityI spent a bunch of time curating this circle to try to make sure the people in it meet the above criteria. This is a good group of folks. My goal in sharing this circle is to help give some interesting people a bit more visibility here on Google+. I think it's important that we bake that kind of opportunity into the culture of this network. If people work hard to share good content and engage well with others, they deserve a chance to get recognized. +Liz ℚuilty did something like this for me when I was just getting started, and this is my way of passing the torch. I want to note that I failed in one of my original goals for this circle, which was to build a diverse group of people. My existing network here on G+ just couldn't get me there for this circle share, so that's something I will be working on addressing for future circles. In the mean time, since I'm not including myself in this circle (because I fail the first criterion), I'm going to be a bit more direct in my call to action. If you like the criteria for this circle and you agree with its goals, then please, add this circle and re-share it publicly. Thank you in advance for your help.||2012-03-12 13:57:13||114||92||88||69||CC G+|

Jumping through hoops
In Olympic year, a new event from Microsoft
In which I…
Go to brush up on Outlook email templating (haven't done it for a while).
Find useful looking demo on microsoft.com.
Realise demo requires Windows MediaPlayer.
Update Flip4Mac and Silverlight for the first time in ages.
Find it makes no difference.
Go and find a Windows machine or boot up Virtual Machine.
Srsly, Microsoft, do you really suppose that all designers work on Windows?
And do you really think MediaPlayer is the friendliest way to deliver video in 2012?
Yes I know I'll need to test the solution on Windows eventually but I just wanted to learn :(

Why Google+ is Kicking Facebook’s Ass
by +Sharon Hurley Hall
Facebook, Shmacebook! If you’re still on the fence about Google+, it’s time to get off and get your account. Google+ users have known for months that this was a better social network for businesses than Facebook, but if you need convincing here’s why Google+ rules and why you need to get a Google+ profile fast.

Google+ ‘Best of’ search parameter feature request
In light of the shared post (and its comments), I'd like to have a way to force the Best of view in a search query stream:
So instead of… https://plus.google.com/s/103363186582409589918%20%23hashtags
…and then having to manually select Best of, I could do something like this:

Are G+ID based searches too flaky to rely on any more?
I don't normally reshare my own stuff -- dodgy! -- but bear with me in this case.
A few days ago I posted my discovery below but, as of this morning, it seems to be highly erratic. It works superbly sometimes and then not at all at others. (It wasn't flawless but more reliable before.)
-- Does it work for you?
-- Has Google changed something?
-- What factors dictate when it will and won't work?
I'd like answers because this search technique is a really useful function. It would be great if someone from Google could comment. If any of you reading this have the ear of someone at Google perhaps you can help bring it to their attention. Thanks.

+Ben Goldacre summed up my thinking on this debacle with his tweet…
"Srsly tho, why is being homophobic so important to Christians and the politicians who support them?" twitter.com/bengoldacre/status/170982311066746880
Issues like this are why there shouldn't be any faith schools in the state system. When it comes to prejudice promoted by a creed, people are going to believe what they believe. But you can't have the state sponsor such teaching.
If it's not already clear what I think about homophobia, you can follow my train of thinking here: plus.google.com/103363186582409589918/posts/89L8got4f9m.

Fifteen minutes to improve your head shot photo: Jaws revisited!
I rarely watch instructional videos as they are time consuming, but Peter Hurley here does a great job. If you´re impatient go the 9th minute to see the results
Such a simple trick and such a huge improvement! No expensive equipment or post-processing needed to enormously improve your head shot. Next time you need one for your CV have your photographer watch this first!
Like Peter says ´it may feel weird, but if it looks great who cares´
I have changed my profile photo for today to my formal one to show some difference
check out this photo by +francisco tejon https://plus.google.com/u/0/109753187393405195231/posts/36fkmCCZCuN to see a shot where the technique almost certainly has been applied.

G+B2B: your recommendations please
I want a condensed guide making the case for using G+ for Business to Business, both generally, and how it wins over Facebook specifically.
I'm more interested in posts by G+ users that pull together and link to evidence or more detail than I am in Google's own marketing pieces (I know where those are).
What can you recommend as the best posts?

In support of the G+ hashtag for topic discovery
I'm trying to form a new habit of consistent use of #hashtags . Here's why…
In terms of increasing one's discoverability by others, I reckon Google+ search works well enough the vast majority of the time without resorting to hashtags, if one just has the right text content in the post to start with.
But where they really add juice is in providing a kind of 'browse' route for easy discovery of your own posts around particular topics. And that can then help people understand what makes you tick by pointing them at G+ID + topic search streams. Here's an example:
That collection of hashtag related posts includes my own and also ones by others that I've commented on.

The future is clearly gesture
"Clear may not be the right todo list app for you, but it is definitely blazing the trail for a new class of apps that will be completely based on gestures. This would have been completely impossible just a few years ago, as none of us were familiar with pinch-and-zoom gestures yet. But as Tim Cook pointed out earlier today, all of this has now become completely intuitive and the next logical step now is to just do away with more and more of what is still left of the desktop metaphors on our mobile devices."

Intriguing stuff from +John Blossom…
"This is the story of The Second Web, where the Web no longer is just a technology that works for billions of people around the world but now works in many ways like the world in which we live. With the latest advances in technologies deployed via the Web, the Web surrounds us every moment of our lives; the world is becoming the Web in which we live. It's a world in which people, organizations and sensors using the Web are creating a real-time stream of trillions of outputs and inputs that have transformed the world itself into a publishing organism which surrounds us with information and experiences."

Running a Google+ Page campaign:

Warning: this post may contain name dropping
Just over a month ago +Julian Bond posted one of his occasional grumbles about Google+ not having RSS feeds for our accounts 'baked in'. And we agree with him.
So +Jonathan Schofield created our Page as an experiment in using Google+ as a campaigning tool to reach out to Google.
Thank you to all 70 who have since reshared our proposition (goo.gl/NbCd1) and all 300 or so who have +1'ed us or added us to their circles. But collectively that puts us at only ~0.000003% of the gplus population.
That's not enough to get our message addressed by Google, people! If we really want RSS to be an integral part of G+, a lot more people are going to have to join us and we're going to have to be more vocal... more »

Notifications for resharing a reshare
Last week I posted about how I wish Google would let us reshare a commentary on a reshare (as opposed to just resharing the original reshare) .
I haven't seen any movement on that but I have just noticed that we now at least get a notification if someone reshares a post from our reshare. See the screenshot below.
Is this new? Or has it always been there and I just need to be more observant?

gplusrss.com is a new service we've just heard about via +Robert Heine, and is made by +PIXELMECHANICS | Webproduktion. As it says on its home page:
"‘Google+ to RSS’ is NOT affiliated with or distributed by Google. This service is simply solving the issue that there is no official RSS-Feed to Google+-profiles"
We haven't used the service yet but if you have, let us know what you think.
Great though it is that people are filling this Google+ void, it would be better if they didn't have to! If you agree, please reshare our proposition: https://plus.google.com/b/105786194532858868645/105786194532858868645/posts/KXfVvVEWeXx
