Android Studio code generation for Android

IntelliJ IDEA / Android Studio are awesome IDEs when it comes to generate code automatically. Simply by pressing [Ctrl]+[Enter] you can painlessly create constructors, getters, setters, equals, hashCode, etc. according to the fields of your class.

Unfortunately, by default, the generation tool doesn't recognize the naming conventions you may use when developing Android applications[0] and may create weird snippets of code.

For instance Android Studio generates the following getter/setter as described below :

class MyClass {
    private int mField;

    int getmField() {
        return mField;
    }

    void setmField(int mField) {
        this.mField = mField;
    }
}

This can be easily fixed by informing Android Studio about yournaming convention... more »

Today is a sad day, we are no longer developing or maintaining Hangout Canopy because of a few reasons.

1. Google+ now provides a sufficient way to discover Hangouts.
2. New Chrome builds imply a very strict set of security rules which make Hangout Canopy fail at detecting Hangouts.
3. Our team no longer has the time to maintain and develop this free extension.

We hope that Hangout Canopy has helped you discover new friends and have great social experience.

You can uninstall Hangout Canopy from your computer if you wish, otherwise Hangout Canopy will uninstall itself from your computers over the next few days.

Call for action!

So at least for now the Mirror API Clone is pretty much functional with a working emulator and a pretty complete documentation.

Now I'm curious if anyone can create some interesting Pseudo-Glass-Services based on it :)

Improving accessibility in Hangouts

Accessibility is something we care a lot about on the Hangouts team. The Hangout Captions app, for example, enables live transcription services for the deaf and hard of hearing (http://goo.gl/4RujF). And "Take the Floor" makes it easier for sign language speakers to do a Hangout together (http://goo.gl/chyKS). Today we're rolling out two accessibility improvements in Hangouts - a Sign Language Interpreter app, and a fuller set of keyboard shortcuts. 

1) Using the Sign Language Interpreter app, deaf or hard of hearing users who prefer sign language can invite interpreters to speak and sign for them during a Hangout. They'll always see their interpreter at the top right of the window, and they'll become the focus of the Hangout whenever their interpreter speaks for them. Nexus 4 device photos (PSD)

A week or so ago, +AJ Lopez (a talented mobile UI designer who's very active [1] on Dribbble), suggested that it would be great if there were more high-res renders of Nexus devices at unique angles for designers to use in their mockups (and for publishers to use in marketing).

Well, short of 3D renders, I convinced our [awesome] Android marketing team to let me share some Nexus 4 device photos. I've also added Photoshop Smart Objects to make it easy to swap in screenshots as needed, without having to re-transform flat screenshots for each angle. A quick preview of these PSDs is attached to this post.

Live transcription integration for your Hangouts
This is +Naomi Black from the Google Accessibility team. I've been working with ace Hangout developers +Robert Pitt, +Mohammad Eshbeata, and +Brian Aldridge on a new app to make communication between deaf and hearing participants easier in your Google+ Hangouts. 
By adding the +Hangout Captions app, you can either connect live text from a professional transcriptionist to your Hangout, or type right into a text box yourself to transcribe a Hangout for your friends. Right now, we only support professional transcription through StreamText and our "do it yourself" Basic Transcription. This is an early look at the app so you can tell us what you think.
