Mike Runyon28,279While I realize a lot of people have to work on President's Day, it is worth while asking for the day off. The traffic is considerably less and the crowds are diminished, making for far more photo opportunities. All those who can attend can meet just inside the main gate as there's a large area to gather and then proceed on through the event. There is a lot to see and do, as well as some great food to go with! There are numerous shows and great displays and has been quite the fun time all the years I've attended. You can buy tickets at the main entrance or you can usually pick up discount tickets at Fry's groceries. http://royalfaires.com/arizona/ Even though you may not be able to attend, please share this with any and all you think might be interested in the event!Arizona Renaissance Festival President's Day Photowalk2013-02-18 18:00:0020

Living Root Bridges
Meghalaya, India
How to get there:

To see the living root bridges you must first get to Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. You can fly into Guwahati and get a share taxi all the way to Police Bazaar in Shillong for Rp400 per person. Alternatively, rent the whole taxi for Rp1600. If you arrive into Guwahati by train, catch a Sumo (The 11-seater jeeps that are the main form of transport around Meghalaya) from right outside the station. Guwahati to Shillong takes about 3 hours including a food stop.

To get to Mawlynnong, you must find the Khasi Hills Sumo stand at Bara Bazaar market.. it’s the first one you come to on the left going up the hill away from the market. Mawlynnong Sumos aren’t marked but they tend to be parked behind the ones to Pynursla and they leave at 1pm sharp. The trip takes about 2 and a half hours and costs Rp80 including a 15 minute tea stop at Pynursla, the half way point. On market days in Pynursla, there is no direct sumo to Mawlynnong from Shillong, so you will have to change in Pynursla which is very easy… there are loads of vehicles going both ways on market day. There are no Sumos to Mawlynnong on a Sunday.

Have you ever seen the Eden Project in Cornwall, England? This is a beautiful example that allows soil to grow by providing variety. Not only does it reduce pests and disease by making it more difficult for them to spread, it diversifies the soil life, making plants more naturally resistant to pests and disease too.

Extracts from the leaves of the beautiful ginkgo tree have been used to treat memory issues for many years. In fact, it is an officially registered drug for the treatment of age-related cognitive decline in Europe. A recent randomized, double-blinded study in healthy (non-cognitively impaired) elders found that ginkgo extract improved dopamine production, which is integral to cognitive function. While the evidence on memory and cognition has been mixed, particularly in studies of those who have dementia, there is a significant body of evidence that ginkgo has beneficial effects on brain health, mood and flexibility in thinking.

How much? Most studies used 120-160 mg twice daily of ginkgo extracts standardized to 24% ginkgoflavones and 6% terpenes.

Chocolate Cosmos Flower

Bulk Chocolate Cosmos flowers are a very deep burgundy color, leaning toward a chocolate shade. In addition to their color, these tiny blooms have a flavorful scent of chocolate! These truly unique flowers are growing in popularity with brides, especially when mixed with white or green flowers. #flowerphotography   #flowers   #flowerpower

Be mesmerized by taking in Phelps’ extreme work ethic in the pool, in the weight room, even by the way the man sleeps, all aimed at sending the 30-year-old legend to his 5th and final Olympic Games. His facial expressions are raw, his sweat and grunts indicative of just how serious Phelps is this time around.

Description
Ruscus hypoglossum 'Mr. Lonely' is a male clone of the European native shared by Alabama plantsman Hayes Jackson. For us, Ruscus hypoglossum makes a 15" tall x 3' wide (10 years) mass of evergreen stems clothed in stiff green cladodes (fake leaves), from whence emerge the miniature flowers in late winter. There are few plants better for dry shade and their deer resistance than the durable Ruscus hypoglossum and, to quote the late garden writer Elizabeth Lawrence, "It is one of the nicest low evergreens that I have found." I always assumed Ruscus hypoglossum to be marginally winter hardy in Zone 7b, but after seeing it in the Balkans growing in a climate comparable to Minneapolis, Minnesota, I'm rethinking that initial assessment. Unfortunately, with a native range from Western Europe to Iran, we are uncertain where this clone of Ruscus hypoglossum originated... more »

History Of Roses
From the earliest times, indeed throughout the history of civilization, people from around the world have held the rose close to their hearts. The earliest known gardening was the planting of roses along the most travelled routes of early nomadic humans. Earliest roses are known to have flourished 35 million-years ago and hips have been found in Europe and petrified rose wreaths have been unearthed from ancient Egyptian tombs.

Run for Your Life! ~ I had been watching this particular Least Tern chick for a few moments when it accidentally wandered too close to an adult that was not its parent. The adult immediately began chasing the chick and this tiny bird ran away incredibly fast with the adult right on its tail. I got really lucky catching two in focus frames during the chase. The adult eventually caught up to the ...chick and pinned it to the ground for about 15-20 seconds. I guess the adult felt confident the "threat" was neutralized so it left the chick alone and went back to its territory. The chick seemed fine and kept to its own area. Taken along the central New Jersey Coast. ~ 6/20/16 - 1/5000sec at f/4.0 on Manual ~ ISO400 at 500 mm ~ using a 500 mm f/4 on a Nikon D4S ~ Please view large and feel free to share.
