Mike Runyon28,363While I realize a lot of people have to work on President's Day, it is worth while asking for the day off. The traffic is considerably less and the crowds are diminished, making for far more photo opportunities. All those who can attend can meet just inside the main gate as there's a large area to gather and then proceed on through the event. There is a lot to see and do, as well as some great food to go with! There are numerous shows and great displays and has been quite the fun time all the years I've attended. You can buy tickets at the main entrance or you can usually pick up discount tickets at Fry's groceries. http://royalfaires.com/arizona/ Even though you may not be able to attend, please share this with any and all you think might be interested in the event!Arizona Renaissance Festival President's Day Photowalk2013-02-18 18:00:0020

History Of Roses
From the earliest times, indeed throughout the history of civilization, people from around the world have held the rose close to their hearts. The earliest known gardening was the planting of roses along the most travelled routes of early nomadic humans. Earliest roses are known to have flourished 35 million-years ago and hips have been found in Europe and petrified rose wreaths have been unearthed from ancient Egyptian tombs.

Run for Your Life! ~ I had been watching this particular Least Tern chick for a few moments when it accidentally wandered too close to an adult that was not its parent. The adult immediately began chasing the chick and this tiny bird ran away incredibly fast with the adult right on its tail. I got really lucky catching two in focus frames during the chase. The adult eventually caught up to the ...chick and pinned it to the ground for about 15-20 seconds. I guess the adult felt confident the "threat" was neutralized so it left the chick alone and went back to its territory. The chick seemed fine and kept to its own area. Taken along the central New Jersey Coast. ~ 6/20/16 - 1/5000sec at f/4.0 on Manual ~ ISO400 at 500 mm ~ using a 500 mm f/4 on a Nikon D4S ~ Please view large and feel free to share.

Love BEBE music
beautiful song!!
This is such a beautiful song, when I first heard this song, it almost sounds like shes talking about being intimate with someone by when she says "que dulce fue tenerte dentro." which means 'how sweet it was to have you inside " but after hearing it over completely and her confirming in an interview this song is in fact about her having a miscarriage. The chorus translates into, "With me always the peaceful voice of the sea, breathing again the rain that will fall down on this body of mine and wet the flower that grows inside me, and laughing again and each day a moment to think of you again." remincing of her baby when it was inside her & the title of the song is "Siempre me quedara" -With me always.

The Kayan residents in Mae Hong Son Province in Northern Thailand refer to themselves as Kayan and object to being called Padaung. In The Hardy Padaungs (1967) Khin Maung Nyunt, one of the first authors to use the term "Kayan", says that the Padaung prefer to be called Kayan.  History of Wat Chedi Luang. The reclining Buddha Chiang Mai
The statue of the reclining Buddha represents Buddha’s serene and composed posture before leaving this world. The statue of Buddha in a reclining position depicts Buddha in his last hours before his passing. This is that moment when Buddha is enters “Nirvana”, which is a state of enlightenment. According to Buddhist belief, a person who attains this state does not go through the cycle of life, death and rebirth thereafter and is entirely set free from the human confines of destiny and misery. The reclining Buddha signifies tranquility and absolute detachment from the desires of the world, a state obtained on the attainment of Nirvana.

King Saen Muang Ma (r.1385-1401) began construction on Wat Chedi Luang in 1391 to hold the ashes of his father, Ku Na. The building was expanded by later kings, reaching its final form in 1475.
It was then given the great honor of housing the Emerald Buddha, the holiest religious object in Thailand (now kept in Wat Phra Kaew, Bangkok). At this time, Wat Chedi Luang rose to a height of 84m (280 ft.).
A century later, a severe earthquake (1545) toppled part of the great spire. The Emerald Buddha was kept in the chedi for another six years, then moved to Luang Prabang (in present-day Laos) by the king.
Five years later, Chiang Mai fell to the Burmese. The temple was never rebuilt, but even at its post-earthquake height (60m) it remained the tallest structure in Chiang Mai until modern times.
Several viharns were added to the temple complex in subsequent years; the largest viharn was built in 1928.

Making Silk

The ancient Chinese bred special moths to produce the quality silk they wanted. Here are the steps in the process for making silk:
A moth lays 500 or so eggs and then dies
Baby worms hatch from the eggs are fed mulberry leaves for one month until they are fat
The worms spin cocoons
The cocoons are steamed to kill the growing moth inside
The cocoons are rinsed in hot water to loosen the threads
Women would unwind the cocoons and then combine six or so fibers into silk threads
The threads are woven into cloth
The cloth is then pounded to make it softer

Enjoy the cool, green jungle lushness you'll find within the walls while exploring a collection of terracotta reproductions of Southeast Asian art that will "bowl you over". Thick paving blocks form paths which are lined with figures large and small from Hinduism and Buddhism: Ganeshas, Buddhas, singhas, nagas, Vishnu, among others. Across from the garden is a lovely Teak house that is also a showroom and studio. You may be lucky enough to find some artisans sculpting the clay making these "new/antiques" and seeing the talent and skill that goes into creating these amazing works. All of the terra-cotta sculptures are for sale....AND they ship! I hope you take some time to stop and enjoy this when you visit Chiang Mai! Mimi

Glowing Dress Turns Claire Danes Into Cinderella At The Met Gala

http://www.boredpanda.com/claire-danes-cinderella-glowing-dress-gown-met-gala-zac-posen/

The theme of this year’s Met Ball, fittingly sponsored by Apple, was Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, and Claire Danes’ dress took the cake. Designed by Zac Posen, he “sourced the fiber optic woven organza in this dress from France, and there are 30 mini battery packs sewn into the gown’s understructure,” according to FastCo.
The Met Gala is held annually for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum Of Art’s Costume (Fashion) Institute in New York City, the only department that has to fund itself. The invitation-only black-tie event is held on the first Monday in May, with tickets this year going for 30,000 USD, and tables for 275,000 USD.

I like documenting happy...no matter how long it lasts or how fleeting. I LOVE the moment...that space..... that air..... that place in time. It's why I take pictures.....this kind of picture. Through photos we get to live it again and again.

In Bukovina, a northern region of Romania, the Easter tradition of dyeing eggs has been elevated into an art form. Filmmaker Titus-Armand Napirlica along with production company Jungles in Paris profiles the beautiful work of Elena Craciunescu in The Egg Painter. Craciunescu is one of a dozen egg painters in the small village of Ciocăneşti. The town's buildings feature elaborate motifs, which are reflected in the decorated eggs. Using a process similar to batik, Craciunescu uses an iron-tipped stick, called a kishitze, to apply a wax design onto a clean and drained egg. She then dips the egg into a dye bath and repeats the process of "painting" with wax and submerging it into other dyes to create a layering effect. The wax acts as a shield between each dye bath, allowing the egg to retain color from the previous dip. In the final stage the egg is held up to a heat source that melts the wax and leaves behind a stunning pattern.

Dark pink roses are symbolic of gratitude and appreciation, and are a traditional way to say thanks. Light pink roses are associated with gentleness and admiration, and can also be used as an expression of sympathy.
