Mike Runyon28,548While I realize a lot of people have to work on President's Day, it is worth while asking for the day off. The traffic is considerably less and the crowds are diminished, making for far more photo opportunities. All those who can attend can meet just inside the main gate as there's a large area to gather and then proceed on through the event. There is a lot to see and do, as well as some great food to go with! There are numerous shows and great displays and has been quite the fun time all the years I've attended. You can buy tickets at the main entrance or you can usually pick up discount tickets at Fry's groceries. http://royalfaires.com/arizona/ Even though you may not be able to attend, please share this with any and all you think might be interested in the event!Arizona Renaissance Festival President's Day Photowalk2013-02-18 18:00:0020

CERN296,150Join us for our sixth Hangout with CERN on Thursday 06 December at 17:00 CET, broadcast live on CERN's Google+ and YouTube pages. Previously, we have introduced you to the LHC's major experiments, given you an update on the search for the Standard Model #Higgs  boson, and discussed the wonders of #antimatter  with some of the experts who work on it at CERN. This Hangout takes us well into the past, as we delve into the very early Universe. The LHC can recreate these early-Universe conditions in the lab by colliding heavy ions together. But why do we collide these different particle species? What is in store for the heavy-ion collisions after the end-of-year break? What is this mysterious quark-gluon plasma? Experts from the LHC's heavy-ion specialist, +ALICE Experiment, will answer your questions about these and many more related topics! You can post your questions in advance, either in the comments below or on Twitter to @CERN with the hashtag #askCERN . We'll pick the best ones to answer and we may even invite you to participate in the live hangout! Want to watch our previous hangouts? Marine Biologist Shows What A Baby Swordfish Looks Like
Marine biologist Juan C. Levesque captured a stunning close-up of a tiny baby swordfish on his finger tip. “Gladiator of the sea”, the minuscule creature can be measured in millimetres, but when fully grown, reaches 3 meters in length!
“Born with a short snout and prickly scales, swordfish develop rapidly,” Levesque writes in his article on the species. “Researchers in the Mediterranean Sea estimated the average growth rate of post-larvae/juvenile swordfish at somewhere between one-eighth and one-quarter of an inch per day.”
The baby swordfish might look totally defenseless, but like Levesque writes, “these fish are fighters from day one.” Don’t let this baby fool you – he already feeds on other fish larvae!

 Red jade vine -
If you want tropical climbers in your life then you will be hard pressed to find a specimen more exotic than the outrageous Red jade vine - mucuna bennettii. Native to Papua New Guinea, this species is a relative new comer to the world of science being formally described by Victorian government botanist Ferdinand von Mueller in 1876.
The amazing, chandelier-like clusters of brilliant red flowers chain together to form a 3' to 4' long raceme. It is a popular choice in gardens that can accommodate it, but it will require certain conditions to thrive.

While it will flourish in tropical regions, it will do well in semi tropical regions too. While it will take as much warmth and light as it can get, its roots must be in shade.  You will know if it gets to cold for it as the leaves will start to yellow and drop. This normally occurs if the temperature falls below 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

It is not a particularly difficult plant to grow and you can start off the Mucuna benettii in a container, but it will need to be as large as you can cope with. Be aware that it will eventually grow to become a very large, woody climber. It can be used to climb a large tree or a very large pergola, just remember, it does need room to spread.

There are  reports of Mucuna bennettii growing to over 100 feet long, with vines covered in meter-long flower clusters.

Mucuna bennettii will flower in the autumn, which if properly pruned, will commence at or around the two-year mark.___

➊ Behind the scenes, Google+ has been making changes to its algorithm. To get engagement back up and put the "social back into social," your best best is to find a niche Google Community that really resonates with you, and then mostly use that (for example, I've launched Over Fifty and Fit that anyone is welcomed to join: https://goo.gl/pUOJM9 ).

Google+ Tips Alert: Here are 5 G+ trends you need to know about immediately:

➊ Behind the scenes, Google+ has been making changes to its algorithm. To get engagement back up and put the "social back into social," your best best is to find a niche Google Community that really resonates with you, and then mostly use that (for example, I've launched Over Fifty and Fit that anyone is welcomed to join: https://goo.gl/pUOJM9 ).
➋ G+ is no longer emphasizing people but rather, it's focusing on topics. This is why it's now harder to find people's photos, their About Me section, etc.
➌ G+ has changed how it prioritizes. In search, often Communities will come first, then after that comes Collections, and then (almost as a below-the-fold afterthought) comes G+ social.
➍ Engagement for us die-hard G+ users has dropped dramatically (analytics don't lie; for example, I have over 15,000 followers on G+ social, and over 30,000 followers on some of my collections, and yet I get relatively few comments or shares (relative to the number of followers, as compared to other social channels). G+ used to be my most engaging, reciprocal social channel, but Pinterest passed them up over a year ago, as has FB and even StumbleUpon.
➎ My favorite part of social is providing value, getting to know people and having interesting conversations. I’ve been with G+ since its private launch years ago and I still love and respect it.Google has good reasons for making these changes, and as long as they remain king of search, they will be a worthwhile social channel. It's just that how you use G+ might need to change if want to your engagement levels to rise (instead of decrease). ___➊ Behind the scenes, Google+ has been making changes to its algorithm. Ancient Mosaics Have Been Unearthed For The First Time In 2,000 Years
Excavation in Zeugma, a Turkish city near the Syrian border began in 2007, after the planned construction of a dam threatened the area with flooding
The archaeologists unearthed and preserved these amazing glass mosaics, which date back to the 200s, BCE.

The mosaic depicts the nine Muses, goddesses who the Greeks believed inspired artistic and scientific creation.

Armenian fashion illustrator Edgar Artis uses a curious mix of paper cut-outs and everyday objects to create stunning dress designs. Anything can become an inspiration for him: a reflection in a window, autumn leaves, or even a building. These creative sketches often include seemingly random items, such as matches, seeds, and a variety of food and plants.
We here at Bright Side are convinced that these are not just your average fashion designs, but real works of art. Take a look and see for yourself:

In the early morning hours with the dawning of a new day I looked at the night sky and felt reverence and gratitude. In the ancient mystery teachings, knowledge of the interaction between Earth and Sky was part of life, it was a time when we were connected to the rhythms and cycles of nature and had sacred relationship with the as above so below. Unfortunately in our modern world we feel for the most part separate from nature, yet the truth is we are part of nature.

Caladium 'Thai Beauty': This caladium thrives in partial shade, tolerating up to half a day of sunlight (which actually improves its color). The leaves emerge green in spring, but quickly begin assuming their bright, eye-catching hues that holds up nicely no matter how hot and humid your summer gets. Grows up to 20" tall. Perennial in zones 9-10.

Superb Lobelia...
Traditional medicine
Native Americans used lobelia to treat respiratory and muscle disorders, and as a purgative. The species used most commonly in modern herbalism is Lobelia inflata (Indian tobacco). However, there are adverse effects that limit the use of lobelia.

Lobelia has been used as "asthmador" in Appalachian folk medicine

Two species, L. siphilitica and L. cardinalis, were once considered a cure for syphilis
