അഭിനന്ദൻ രാമാനുജനെ (+Ramanujam Abinandhan  ) പോലൊരു പ്രഗത്ഭനായ  കാമറമാൻ ഉണ്ടായതുകൊണ്ടോ, RED Epic കാമറ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ഏറ്റവും ദൈർഖ്യമേറിയ single shot ഗാനരംഗം ചിത്രീകരിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടോ, ആവശ്യത്തിനും അനാവശ്യത്തിനും കായലിന്റെ മുകളിൽ കൂടി തലകുത്തനെയുള്ള കുറെ  crane shot എടുത്തതുകൊണ്ടോ  സിനിമ ഗംഭീരമാവില്ല   എന്നു മനസിലായി.  

ആമേൻ ഒരു  experimental സിനിമയാണു് എന്നാണു നിർമ്മാത്താക്കാൾഅവകാശപ്പെടുന്നതു്. എന്തെല്ലാമാണു് experiments:

1)പാടാൻ അറിയാവുന്ന മലയാളികൾ ആവശ്യത്തിലേറേ    ഉണ്ടായിട്ടും ഉറങ്ങി ഉറങ്ങി പാടുന്ന Lucky Aliയേ ഇറക്കുമതി ചെയ്തു പാടി അലങ്കോലപ്പെടുത്തിയാൽ മലയാളി ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുമോ?
2)യാതൊരു ശ്രവണ ഭംഗിയും സാങ്കേതിക മികവും ഇല്ലാത്ത കുറെ കൂതറ  സംഗീതം അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നവരാണു ആലപ്പുഴയിലെ  ബാന്റ് മേളക്കാർ എന്നു അവതരിപ്പിച്ചാൽമലയാളി ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുമോ?
3) കറുത്ത മുടിയും,  ഉയരം കുറഞ്ഞതുമായ ഉത്തരേന്ത്യക്കാരിയെ ഫ്രെഞ്ചുകാരിയായി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചാൽ മലയാളി ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുമോ?

പതിനഞ്ച്  കൊല്ലം മുമ്പ് ഞാൻ ഒരു സ്വപ്നം കണ്ടിരുന്നു.  മലയാള ഭാഷ ഇന്റർനെറ്റിൽ വരുന്നതോടെ   ശാസ്ത്ര ലേഖനങ്ങൾ മലയാളത്തിൽ എഴുതി നമ്മൾ പ്രബുദ്ധരായ ജനതയാകുമെന്നു.   മലയാളം ഇന്നും വികാരങ്ങളുടെ മാത്രം ഭാഷയായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു.  വിചാരങ്ങളും ആശയങ്ങളും  ഇം‌ഗ്ലീഷിൽ തന്നെ തുടരുന്നു. 

 ശാസ്ത്രം പോയിട്ട് ലോക വിവരങ്ങൾ പോലും മലയാളത്തിൽ വിരളമാണു്.ഇം‌ഗ്ലീഷ് വായിച്ച് മനസിലാക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്നവൻ ഇന്നും മലയാളം മാത്രം വായിക്കുന്നവനേക്കാൾ പതിറ്റാണ്ടുകൾ മുന്നിലാണു്.  ... more »

സന്തോഷ് ശിവൻ സംവിധാനം ചെയതു്,  മെർച്ചന്റ്- ഐവറി നിർമ്മിച്ച സിനിമയാണു് "Before the Rains."  
താര നിര കേട്ടാൽ ഒരു തനി മലയാള സിനിമയാണെന്നു തോന്നുമെങ്കിലും, കേരളത്തിന്റെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിൽ   ഹൊളിവുഡ് നിർമിച്ച ഒരു  ഇസ്രയിലി  കഥയാണു ഇതു്. 

1937ൽ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് തേയില തോട്ടം ഉടമയുടേയും, വിവാഹിതയായ മലയാളി വീട്ടു ജോലിക്കാരിയുമായിട്ടുള്ള പ്രണയ ബന്ധവുംതുടർന്നുള്ള അലികുലിത്തുകളുമാണു കഥ.  പ്രധാന കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യുന്നവർ മലയാളികളല്ലാത്തതിനാൽ ഉച്ചാരണം സംബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള ചില അപാകതകൾ മലയാളി പ്രേക്ഷകർ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുമെങ്കിലും,  റാഹുൽ ബോസിന്റെയും നന്ദിത ദാസിന്റെയും അഭിനയം വളരെ മെച്ചപ്പെട്ടതാണു്.

 ലൈനുസ് റോച്ച് എന്ന ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് നടന്റെ അഭിനയം  ഈ സിനിമയിൽ  ശ്രദ്ദേയമാകുന്നു.  തിലകനും,ഇന്ദ്രജിത്തും  അവർക്ക് ലഭിച്ച ചെറിയ് കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ  നന്നായി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു.  സാധാരണ മലയാളം സിനിമകളിൽ അഭിനയിച്ചു് ഓവർ ആക്കാറുള്ള  ലാൽ പോലും ഭേതപ്പെട്ട പ്രകടനം കാഴ്ചവെച്ചു. വിദേശിയെ വില്ലനും സ്വദേശിയെ വീരന... more »

A little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children's letters – sometimes very hastily – but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, 'Dear Jim: I loved your card.' Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said: 'Jim loved your card so much he ate it.' That to me was one of the highest compliments I've ever received. He didn't care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.

ViBGYOR Film Collective condemns the fabricated charges leveled against five reputed Cultural, film and media persons of Kerala. Kerala police has charged cases against K.P Sasi, the renowned Film maker and activist, I Shanmukhadas, a well known Film Critic, Prasannakumar T N, a film activist, Shafeek, a young Journalist and Deepak, a Documentary Filmmaker for 'rioting', 'unlawful assembly' and 'public obstruction' (IPC Sections 143, 147, 149 and 283 ) for participating in a peaceful protest which occurred on February 11, 2013 at Thrissur, Kerala. These citizens along with a few dozens of writers, Film makers and activists were protesting against the very concept of capital punishment and the surreptitious manner in which Afzal Guru was accorded Death Penalty.
