This year we haven't had a lot of nice weather in our area. Most of the time it has been cold and rainy. On Friday I have had one of my first walks in the sunshine this year. I came across a wonderful meadow and I had to make a photograph although I normally do not make pictures of flowers. Hopefully you enjoy it nevertheless!

The stream "Elsach" flows through the active water cave "Falkensteiner Höhle", swabian alb, that is just a few meters away from this waterfall. The  source of the "Elsach" is the rain, which falls on the top of the swabian alb and seeps into the ground. Only after heavy rain or snowmelt there is enough water for pictures like this.

This is the black and white version of the photo, that I posted earlier today. I really like the color version because of the nice greens. But this BW version seems to fit better for me. It focuses more on the fern.

From a meteorological position, the wet and cold spring in Germany finished yesterday. But apparently, a wet and cold summer has just begun... But I admit, I like the rain. Then the green of the wood is effective even more.

If I don't have enough time for a longer trip, I walk together with our dog in the forest, which is directly next to our house. I know this small forest, or I should better say, I know the routes in this forest very well. 

Yesterday, I decided to walk through the forest, without our dog, Phenollio. Just about 2 km. 
But away from the paths. And it seemed to be a completely unknown terrain. It was so wonderful.

I have to admit, that Phenollio was not happy that I went out without him. He knows, that if I pack my camera, normally it is time for him to join me. But when I came back from my trip, we went together again into the forest. This time, it was his time to be happy...

Weekly walk picture...

"Hell holes"... . This is the name of some great rock crevices at the edge of the swabian alb (near Dettingen). They are signs, that some day this rock will break off. Currently, it is possible to hike through the hell holes. And at the end, there are some stairs to climb up or down. Who know how long this will last.

Here is another shot of the Gütersteiner waterfalls. Yes, they are not as spectacular as other waterfalls like for example the waterfall of Bad Urach, which is just a few kilometers away. Maybe I like them more as the spectacular ones, because it is amazing, how so little water can create such wonderful landscapes.

Today's hike took me past the Gütersteiner waterfalls. The water flows continuously through the moss, so that the lime of the water, can settle at the moss. This way, the water creates new tufa.

Most of my pictures of the swabian alb are shots of the edge of the alb because I love hiking uphill. But this morning I decided to start my walk on the top of the alb. Some minutes after I started, the sun sent some rays through the clouds. It was a wonderful view.

The area around the edge of the swabian alb is known for its meadow orchards. As far as I have seen this morning, the cherry blossoms will vanish during the next days, latest after the next rain which is already announced by the weather forecast.

Despite yesterday's birthday party of my wife, I got up early this morning to hike a few hours with Phenollio, our dog. We arrived at the starting point just before sunrise with a wonderful view at the mountain "Limburg", near Weilheim/Teck, Germany. This conical mountain, a former volcano, is about 200 meters high.

My dog was surprised when I got up at 5 a.m for our sunday morning walk. The weather forcast said that we would get a sunny day and I wanted to be at the starting point at sunrise. Unfortunately it was overcast in Bartholomä, swabian alb . Anyway we walked almost 5 hours and enjoyed the trip. 10 minutes before we came back to the car we have seen the first sunrays.

This is another picture of the "Laufbach" near Loffenau, Germany. I stayed very often only 2 KM away from this place but I was never aware of the beauty of this place. Now that I've seen it I'm sure that I will visit the Laufbachtal from time to time.

Although the weather wasn't good today, I found today some signs that finally spring has arrived. The snow is gone on the swabian alb and some colors are emerging out of the floor. 
This scarlet elf cup, in german called "Kelchbecherling" (Sarcoscypha spec.) is one of the first signs. I saw this one today on my walk through the "Wolfstal".
