Going to keep posting this until the Violence Against Women Act is passed in the U.S. House of Representatives. If that means posting until the neanderthals who voted against it are gone, then so be it.

Lunch Break
Oil on Canvas, 20" x 24"

Been many years since I tackled a landscape, and after a couple of weeks working through my psychological block with this one, hoping the next one will flow much easier.
Happy Friday my plussers!

Just a short note to my fellow plussers... I am in the middle of a project, and will not be online as much as I would like, but will return as quickly as possible.  In the meantime, I will be popping in periodically to help moderate this community, and visit with my friends.
Hope everyone has a wonderful, creative week.

Have been offline for days trying to work through problems with this painting.  Although I have missed chatting with my friends here, I knew if I got online, it would give me an excuse not to work on this landscape.
I think i'm finished.  Will visit it again in the morning with fresh eyes.
In the meantime, here's a snippet of the work.

Probably one of the most romantic poems ever written.
This is an excerpt from  *I sing the body electric by Walt Whitman*.
I truly recommend you read the entire poem.

Happy Valentine's Day!

------------------------------------------------

I SING the Body electric;
The armies of those I love engirth me, and I engirth them;
They will not let me off till I go with them, respond to them,
And discorrupt them, and charge them full with the charge of the Soul.

Was it doubted that those who corrupt their own bodies conceal themselves;
And if those who defile the living are as bad as they who defile the dead?
And if the body does not do as much as the Soul?
And if the body were not the Soul, what is the Soul?

The love of the Body of man or woman balks account—the body itselfbalks account;  ... more »

Probably one of the most romantic poems ever written.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I SING the Body electric;
The armies of those I love engirth me, and I engirth them;
They will not let me off till I go with them, respond to them,
And discorrupt them, and charge them full with the charge of the Soul.

And if those who defile the living are as bad as they who defile the dead?
And if the body does not do as much as the Soul?
And if the body were not the Soul, what is the Soul?

The love of the Body of man or woman balks account—the body itself balks account;
That of the male is perfect, and that of the female is perfect.

The expression of the face balks account;
But the expression of a well-made man appears not only in his face;
It is in his limbs and joints also, it is curiously in the joints of his hips and wrists;
It is in his walk, the carriage of his neck, the flex of his waist and knees—dress does not hide him;
The strong, sweet, supple quality he has, strikes through the cotton and flannel;
To see him pass conveys as much as the best poem, perhaps more;
You linger to see his back, and the back of his neck and shoulder-side.

The sprawl and fullness of babes, the bosoms and heads of women, the folds of their dress, their style as we pass in the street, the contour of their shape downwards,
The swimmer naked in the swimming-bath, seen as he swims through the transparent green-shine, or lies with his face up, and rolls silently to and fro in the heave of the water,
The bending forward and backward of rowers in row-boats—the horseman in his saddle,
Girls, mothers, house-keepers, in all their performances,
The group of laborers seated at noon-time with their open dinner-kettles, and their wives waiting,
The female soothing a child—the farmer’s daughter in the garden or cow-yard,
The young fellow hoeing corn—the sleigh-driver guiding his six horses through the crowd,
The wrestle of wrestlers, two apprentice-boys, quite grown, lusty, good-natured, native-born, out on the vacant lot at sundown, after work,
The coats and caps thrown down, the embrace of love and resistance,
The upper-hold and the under-hold, the hair rumpled over and blinding the eyes;
The march of firemen in their own costumes, the play of masculine muscle through clean-setting trousers and waist-straps,
The slow return from the fire, the pause when the bell strikes suddenly again, and the listening on the alert,
The natural, perfect, varied attitudes—the bent head, the curv’d neck, and the counting;
Such-like I love—I loosen myself, pass freely, am at the mother’s breast with the little child,
Swim with the swimmers, wrestle with wrestlers, march in line with the firemen, and pause, listen, and count.  ......

Oil on Canvas, 30" x 30" x 1.5"  (76 cm x 76 cm x 4cm)

I just finished this one.  I concentrated not only on the composition, but also the brushwork and the texture of the paint (love loaded brushes!).  The canvas, although prepped, gave me hell throughout the painting, but decided to let that texture work with me, instead of against me in places.   It's a large canvas, and hard to photo with any detail, so I included some detail shots.
Will let her set for a few weeks, then revisit to see if she needs any more work.

This is so exciting!!!!.    The end of fossil fuel???

Watched an interview last night with the Audi engineer who designed the engine that would perform with the algae-based fuel.  Did research on line, and found this article.  Audi and Joule state the price of their "green fuel" will be the same as fossil fuel, and distribution will be established all across the country.  If Audi can do this, so can other automobile manufacturers.  Come on GM, Chrysler and Ford... get on the green train.

Big question.... why didn't this make the big main media news stream?
