Week 17: My Favourite Room
I don't have a "favourite room" really... so I just went with one I find visually interesting: The lift.
What I like here is how you feel like this might be taken from inside the elevator when really it is just a reflection.
The result is not as I expected but... oh well.

If you want to randomly travel around the world from your sit while playing a bit this weekend, give GeoGuessr a try!
It is a google-maps-based game asking you to guess locations based on Street view images.
I was lucky enough to get 19640 points thanks to a lucky guess in South Korea (24km away from the actual location :)).

Lonesome surfer
One of my first DSLR shots I suppose... back in 2009. People started pinning and repinning it on pinterest a few weeks ago... so why not submit it here. (unfortunately stupid me was shooting in JPG back then...)

Week 16: Technology
Click on the thumbnail: This is a photosphere :).
So I was thinking... why not submit an example of how technology is changing photography rather than a photo "of" technology.
So here is a photosphere... this is a Straight Out Of the Smartphone spherical shot.
Who would have thought 10 years ago that we would be able to take such shots with a telephone?
Not the most artistic one I agree, but I suppose it still fits the theme :).

Have a great week everyone.
The embedded video is perfect to start the week! (Even though I am not too keen on the music...)
This is a showreel for airV8, a remote-controlled helicopter equipped with a camera.
Breathtaking.

Week 14: Night
I had not taken any time for photography at night and was stucked on that week's theme... so I got out tonight and did not feel too inspired.
Here is what I came up with, playing with lines, shadows and the emptiness of otherwise rather crowded train station stairs during the day.

Spring incoming
We are going through the coldest spring (in France) ever since weather reports are kept, but we do see glimpses of spring popping up here and there.

Interesting collaborative project by +Joseph Gordon-Levitt (quite sure it's not an official account but oh well).
As a "fork" to its Record company, called "Hit Record", Joseph Gordon-Levitt is announcing a TV show based on artistic productions by users around the globe.
Photo, video, poetry, whatever, all art can be featured in the show, and most of the art is based on collaboration between users.
Want a bonus? Well, if what you submit ends up being used, not only will your work be featured in episodes, but you will share profits with Hit Record.
Not bad, eh?

The Nik Collection by Google: photography first, for professionals and more
Here on the Google+ Photos team, we're busy building tools for all kinds of photographers. Today, and for all the professionals out there, we're bundling the complete set of Nik plug-ins as the Nik Collection by Google. We're especially excited about three things:
1) It's more affordable. The entire set of plug-ins for Photoshop, Lightroom and Aperture only costs $149 (versus the previous $499).
2) It's really powerful. The Nik Collection by Google gives you tools for everything from noise reduction and HDR imaging to creative effects and image sharpening (and lots more).
3) It's free to try. You can visit niksoftware.com for a 15-day free trial of the Collection.
If you've already purchased one or more Nik plug-ins in the past, then don't... more »

Google just "released" Nik's software pack including everything that previously cost $499 for just $149 (just found a voucher to bring it down to $126.65 : DZISER @ checkout)
That's :
- HDR Efex Pro 2
- Silver Efex Pro 2
- Color Efex Pro 4
- Viveza 2
- Sharpener Pro 3
- Dfine 2
Doesn't seem like a bad deal.

Uh-Oh : Google Reader is being euthanized in July.
It was... well... kind of expected, yet a real bummer.
I have personally tried quite a few alternative solutions.
But as RSS feed readers go, Google Reader has always been the most efficient to deal with large amount of content, making it easy to go from feed to feed, item to item, categorize through tags, well... do pretty much everything you need while remaining fast.
I reckon this will force me (and others relying on this nice product) to cut down on their content-discovery workflow... but I will be kind of bitter I assume.

Amazon Prime is amazing.
I have been a Prime consumer (well, actually "Premium" as Amazon labeled the offer in France) for a few years, and I value the 45€ ($79 in the US gets you a bit richer experience... but oh well) yearly fee.
But do you know that Amazon's operating cost per consumer is around $10 per year?
As stated in this Wired article, it simply means that Prime consumers are amazingly valuable... and that Amazon could tear competition by simply dropping the Prime fee by two or three and still maintain this win-win situation with consumers, recruiting... 10 times more "VIP" consumers maybe?

I always enjoy looking at CG work "making of" videos.
This one from "The Avengers" is another good example of a great one, showing how the team recreated New York for scenes from about 1/3 of the movie.

Hi everyone.
For some reason I kept on having an error when trying to reply to the group mail...
Here is the mail I was desperately trying to send:
Hello there group 492 :).
I have never taken on of these classes before either. I have indeed done the reading, and will try and join the first session today.
As for an introduction, I'm Clement, I was formerly working in a digital advertising agency in France, but after being a "victim of the economy", I am taking 2013 "off" for personal projects and will see what this leads me to towards 2014.
Nice to meet you as well.
