Time Will Tell

I haven't uploaded many photos recently, since, I honestly do not like the new +Google+ layout, I can't stand it :( everything feels so slow and clumsy, but to make it up to you guys, here is one I took just today, sunsets are starting to get nice here in Puerto Vallarta, so hopefully I will upload more :)

About other people sharing your photos and what do you do?

Recently a lot of people on my town have been using my photos on Facebook, twitter and such, which I have no problem at all with that. Who doesn't like people sharing your work and getting praised for it? and better yet get some clients out of that! The problem for me comes when a lot of them are businesses using my photos to promote their own business  mostly tourist based, without giving me any sort of credit, most of the times because they claim "they didn't knew who the author was" and some times even going to the extreme of saying they took that, or a "friend" took it, when I don't even know them.

what do you do in those case? I am very honored that people are liking and sharing my photos, but what good does it do me when nobody knows who took it?

Tutorial: Manual HDR Bracketing Explained [ bit.ly/11YyKCB ]

Have you ever been in a situation where you wanted to make a HDR image but the Auto Exposure Bracketing of your camera just did not cut it? It did not cover the entire dynamic range of the scene and you ended up with blown-out highlights and blocked-up shadows anyway? This is when you need manual HDR bracketing. But what’s the right technique for bracketing manually?

In this tutorial, I am going to show you a simple technique for freeing yourself from the limitations of your camera’s AEB function by using Manual Exposure Bracketing (MEB). We will go through the camera setup and a simple procedure for shooting the images without having to do any math. With a bit of practice, you can even use this technique when you’re shooting hand-held HDR.

If you go the link above, you can slide back and forth between the original +2 ev exposure straight out of the camera and the HDR version. This is much better and much more informative than any side-by-side comparison.

Fishing At Sunset

Along The Meguro River || Tokyo

With only a short (2 day) visit to Tokyo, I was very fortunate to have a beautiful sunny day to explore the tail end of Hanami and the (already falling) sakura bloom. Tokyo's cherry blossoms started to bloom about 2 weeks ahead of the average and I was a bit worried that I was going to miss it. Thankfully though, there were still plenty of great viewing areas to explore including the Meguro River. 

I spent a couple hours wandering along the river, crossing all the little bridges, and searching for an area to set up my camera. With so many beautiful spots, it wasn't easy to choose but I eventually settled on the one you see here. As I stood there, the wind kicked up, producing strong gusts that caused thousands of cherry blossom petals to rain down all around me. So long since I've uploaded a photo :) so I went to take some photos today, and had a lovely sunset! I had already taken this angle before but it was at night, and I always wanted to go back on a sunset. this was the result :)

The Sleeping Dragon || Guilin, China

Enter the Reed Flute Cave, one of Guilin, China’s oldest and most popular attractions. The natural limestone formations are illuminated by an array of colorful lights that give it a wild and otherworldly feel. Throughout the interior, there are 70 ink inscriptions that can be dated as far back as 792 AD in the Tang Dynasty. That means people have been visiting this cave since ancient times. Although, I’m fairly confident the colored lights are a more modern addition. 

It’s also worth noting that after spending 3 cold, overcast, and rainy weeks in southern China, I learned a very valuable photography tip. It never rains in a cave. ;)

Facebook is to “Friend” What Apple is to “Genius”

Wow!  This is a must read!

A little bit of history about this article.  My friend +Nick Eller came to me a few months ago explaining how Facebook had ruined many parts of his life.  I introduced him to my story about the exodus and how I made my exit from Facebook.  I privately messaged every single one of my "friends" on Facebook telling them I was leaving.  If they wanted my phone number I would respond via Facebook message or email.  I got three responses.

Fast forward a few years and +Nick Eller has removed Facebook from his life and his wife, +Ashleigh Eller, saw a difference in him.  She recognized that Facebook was hurting parts of her life as well.  They are both Facebook free and this article explains how much happier they are.

Our little group from +PhotoWalkPVR decided to do something fun and different (maybe not different as I am sure it has been done, but it was for our group) in honor of +Santiago Almada 's unfortunate accident :( ( https://plus.google.com/u/0/104866519156997639676/posts/aQFHtvb7in3 )  and did a Smartphone only #photowalk  in #puertovallarta   :)

it was short, it was different, but it was fun! and I have to admit, a little bit challenging, I know the gear does not make the photographer, but oh boy did I missed my gear! :P 

the good news, is that +Santiago Almada 's gear was saved!, the bad news is its expensive! :( at about 400 USD he, as a full time student does not have the funds to pay for it, so all of his gear is still in the shop, I talked to him about making some kind of fund raise, asking for donations in exchange for HQ versions of one of his photos, what do youthink ... more »

We normally do not put personal posts on this page, as they can be complicated matters and usually do not pertain to CyanogenMod news. That said, something is affecting us in a way it really hasn’t affected us before, and it’s hitting very close to home.

Within CyanogenMod, we have dozens of maintainers and hundreds of contributors; none of whom are paid employees. Yes, we get donations, but despite the jokes of yachts, helicopters, and private planes, it is really just enough to cover operating costs for servers and hosting. Occasionally, there is enough leftover in the team account to buy a device for a developer. What we are getting at here is that CyanogenMod is not rich.

There are, however, times where we wish that we were a full fledged company. It’d be nice if CM could pay for some full-time positions or help out team members when they are in need. Currently, we areexper... more »

So who are these folks? And why are they photographers to follow?

First of all.. this circle contains a bunch of my closest friends on G+. The folks that I spend the most time "with" on here.  There are a bunch of great photographers and just as importantly "good people" here.

1) Active : They have posted within the last month. With the holidays a lot of folks have slowed down but these folks are still there. Yes, I visited each stream.

2) Original These photographers are sharing mostly  "THEIR OWN WORK" and their stream is mostly photography.
 
3) Interactive : I try to find folks who are interactive and comment on their own posts and the posts of others.

I personally think its an exaggeration and a douche move from them, but then again Apple has always been know from pulling this kind of stuff.

Adobe CS2 for FREE - Website does not seem to hold up against the rush!

Adobe is now giving away an older version (CS2) of its Creative Suite for free at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?pid=4485850&e=cs2_downloads

But if you go there right now, you will have to wait for the site to get back up. Apparently the rush on the free offer is forcing the Adobe servers to their knees.

So, lean back, take a deep breath and try again tomorrow. ;)

The new pier

A new pier is about to be finished in #PuertoVallarta  , on Jan 4, it took a long time (I think close to 2 years) to finish but its finally done (or almost)!

its been a while since I was out taking photos for me, so I walked a few blocks from my house seeing as how the sky was not grey today and took this photo :) 

wish it could have been yesterday so I could upload it for #sunsetsaturday

So Instagram wants to sell Images....Interesting

As many of you many know, Facebook and Instagram recently announced a new TOS (Terms of Service) that allows Instagram (i.e. Facebook) to sell and licence your Instagram images to other companies.

This change is amusing...let me tell you why. For months I have been shaking my head at other Instagram users that have been using this MOBILE photo sharing platform to upload their professional images in order to get more "likes" and followers. This approach has always annoyed me as that is not what Instagram was about. It seems you reap what you sow. All of you that tried to game the system by abusing the "Mobile" aspect of Instagram...well your images can now be licenced to other companies. Facebook should send you a holiday card as a thanks!

What do you guys think? should I upgrade my canon t2i for a used  7d ? I get a deal from a friend who barely uses the camera, it only has about 12,000 shots on a  150,000 rated shutter life, I think that is a great number.

but my question, would it be a good buy ? is the 7d really an upgrade?

Faro del fin del mundo...+Shanti Gilbert

Y, aunque no es el original... Este es el faro más conocido como el faro del fin del mundo. Ubicado en el canal de Beagle en Ushuaia, Argentina.

En 1884 se construye en la Isla de los Estados el faro de San Juan de Salvamento y una Subprefectura que tenía la función de estación de salvataje. El faro recibió el nombre de "Faro del Fin del Mundo" debido a la novela que escribiera Julio Verne (Le Phare du Boute du Monde. Dc.1905). Era la única luz que tenían los navegantes en el mar austral. También era la última referencia antes de lo desconocido, la Antártida.

Not the best weather, but we got permission to go inside a house that had this amazing view!  I am still waiting for what +Marco A. Miranda R. and +Ben Latterell (which was on vacation here) photos will look like :D
