Creating a website on your own is a relatively simple task, with many options for aided customization. Creating your own app, on the other hand? Not so easy.
The Kleverbeast team is attempting to change that, and they say that with their product, 'You can make apps that look like Flipboard but with prices that you'll find at H&M.'

"Pretty much everything in my collection shows some sign of having been used. They all have small scratches and wear, as well as a bit of dust and a few fingerprints here and there. I've probably added most of them myself over the years... Like an old house, there is a mystery or two locked in each one of them. I can only guess at the places they've been, the things they have seen and people that used them."

"Over years and thousands of weddings, experience proves that #wedding #photography is perhaps the most demanding specialty - other than war correspondent. While you’re not being shot at, you are “under attack” and will suffer all sorts of blind sides: pushy mothers, late florists, minute-counting caterers, restrictive church police, guests who tell you how to do your job. Wedding expectations, timelines, vendor egos and budgets never play well together.
The photographer must make memorable images regardless of circumstances over which she has little control": http://bit.ly/11eRgnB

"When taking photographs for your own pleasure, you can shoot what you want, when you want. But if you aspire to a regular income from wildlife / travel photography you need to decide in which kind of market your images are best suited. Is it supplying illustrative stock photography for articles and books or selling fine art cards, prints or posters? With the exception of cute animals, an image which works well for one outlet, will not necessarily work for others." #photography

Lomography turns to Kickstarter for the funding of its newest project, a smartphone 35mm film scanner. Daniela Bowker weighs in on this choice:
"Lomography... is a business and it is out to make a profit. I find it highly unlikely that it desperately needs to secure alternative funding for the scanner because it can't manage it through any other channels. From here, this feels like a cheap loan for Lomography that relies on Joe Public." #photography #lomography #kickstarter

"It seems obvious when you think about it: if you mould the centre column of a tripod so that the legs curve into it, rather than making it round, meaning that the legs clash, you save a heap of space. So why has no one done it until now with Giotto's' Silk Road YTL series of tripods?"

Olympus gets tough with the TG-2. "It has a bright ƒ/2.0-4.9 lens that covers 25 to 100mm (35mm equivalent), the ability to shoot in aperture priority mode, and can get as close as 1cm to its subjects in macro mode. Sensor-wise, it has a 12 megapixel 1/2.3" sensor and sensitivity to ISO 6,400. That's not bad, without the ruggedisation.
It's waterproof down to 15 metres (and has auto underwater white balancing), shockproof from 2.1 metres, crushproof upto 100kg, and can cope with -10º Celsius. And to make sure you know where you took your pictures, it comes with GPS and an e-compass."

Tips on remaining relevant as a studio portrait photographer - Sara Frances interviews photographer John Hartman, plus workshop discount offers.
JH: “It’s obvious that the market has changed. Many photographers who are experiencing tough times now are searching everywhere for answers. Is it the economy? Is it all the new, cheap competitors? Is it out-dated or non-existent marketing? The elephant in the room might be that they aren’t producing work that is different enough from what the public thinks is worth paying for - or different from what they or their amateur friend can do with a ‘good’ camera.”

Gareth Dutton on the winner of The Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2012:
"This year's winning entry was Margarita Teichroeb by Jordi Ruiz Cirera. What I have noticed is that, every single year, people react angrily to the winning entry and indeed to many of the shortlisted images. Because I hate being happy, I decided to trawl some comments underneath online articles announcing the winners. Thankfully, it wasn't all bad, but the main complaint was the somewhat reductive argument that it was 'just a woman sat down, looking worried.'"
