Apple just got the most expensive court room win ever: Pyrrhic victory

 This case should never have reached a jury court, but the verdict is in. One billion dollar in damages although the jury was just sent back to recalculate it as judge Koh noticed some errors. 

By all means this is a commercial conflict with a worldwide impact, but it ended up before nine ordinary citizens, laymen, two women and seven man who were asked to answer a very long list of detailed questions on very technical stuff. They were treated to endless streams of expert witnesses and the few journalist who reported from the court room often noticed ´jury looks blank while expert goes on an on´.

Facebook is keeping you from being an asshat in comments

OK, so I go over to +Max Woolf's content area on Facebook, and respond to his post about +PandoDaily, (which is here: https://www.facebook.com/max.woolf/posts/326466947419794 ) but Facebook keeps me from posting the below comment. It gave me this error. Looks like Facebook is doing content analysis in real time before it will let you post and is looking to keep the service "happy." I sure wonder now what kind of algorithms Facebook is running on content.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? I haven't, and I've posted tons of comments to Facebook.

A friend of mine developed an iPhone App for photographers. Very handy if you are doing time laps shootings. Apple approved this App only a few days ago.

The Time Lapse Calculator can calculate duration and length of a video time lapse shoot. An Android version will follow later.

Why I'm in New York to buy my iPad; the new PR

So, later tonight I will join a line in New York to buy my iPad. Why here and not in Palo Alto?

Because I'm sensing a world shift and wanted to be here to participate in it.

What's the shift? Well, Amazon, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and Apple and the ecosystems that depend on them are increasingly going to compete on media, not on speeds and feeds.

Europe calling: the old giant wakes up and calls on its peeps!
now that Europe shows up as the largest continent on G+ self awareness goes up and initiatives to get together flourish.

Toward a more inclusive naming policy for Google+

With Google+, we aspire to make online sharing more like sharing in the real world. And during the Google+ signup process, we've asked users to select the name they commonly use in real life.

Since launch we've listened closely to community feedback on our names policy, as well as reviewed our own data regarding signup completion. The vast majority of users sail through our signup process -- in fact, only about 0.1% submit name appeals.

When we analyze the set of all name appeals on Google+, we find that they generally fall into three major categories:
- The majority (60%) of these users want to simply add nicknames.
- About 20% of appeals are actually businesses (who are inadvertently trying to set up their business as a Profile, rather than using Google+ Pages which were intended for this purpose.)... more »

16-year-old Laura Dekker completes solo trip around world

Sat Jan 21, 3:05 p.m. AST: +The Associated Press reports that a teenager from the Netherlands has ended a yearlong solo journey around the globe aboard a ketch named "Guppy."

Laura Dekker celebrated her 16th birthday during the trip and claims she is the youngest sailor to complete a round-the-world voyage.

Several Dutch officials tried to block her trip, arguing she was too young to risk her life. School authorities have complained she should be in a classroom.

What does it do? It lets you write little macros in this syntax: "If This, Then That..."

So, if my profile picture on Facebook changes then also change it on Twitter. That kind of thing. Already has a ton of different pre-done ones, and you can add your own. Thanks!

Don't be shy!

Millions of people are on Google+, but not getting much out of it. Why? They're shy.

Most people on Google+ have never posted anything publicly, commented, participated in a hangout, posted pictures of themselves or their lives or blocked anyone. Yet these are the very things that make Google+ enriching and enjoyable.

Here's the problem: Google+ is massively powerful.

On Twitter, everyone feels comfortable posting anything. I just searched Twitterfall for the word "dream," and up came these tweets:

"I had a dream i guess it was just a dream tho"

"Dream a little dream of me."

"I wonder what that dream meant :/ lmaooo"

And a thousand others posted within the span of a minute or so.

If your brain works normally

This is another example of an amazing illusion!!! The last sentence is so true.

If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, the dots will remain only one color, pink.

However if you stare at the black '+ ' in the center, the moving dot turns to green.
Now, concentrate on the black ' + ' in the center of the picture. After a short period, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will see only a single green dot rotating.

It's amazing how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear. This should be proof enough, we don't always see what we think we see.
