A Young Bull
© Jeff R. Clow
My good friend +Daryl L. Hunter and I were in search of moose at the Gros Ventre campground .... which is well known for being moose territory because of the abundant willow trees nearby.
Daryl was about 50 feet away from me and we were walking slowly through the brush when I heard a rustle right next to me - and as I turned, this young bull moose poked his head out of the brush just a few feet away.
As I recall, here's what happened in rapid fashion:
The adrenalin kicks in - the one that says fight or flight that we are all programmed with from our caveman ancestors - and I make a quick decision to raise my camera and shoot as I back away. My 70-200mm lens is heavy and it has a teleconverter on it - so when I try to focus, I'm unable to do so. The bull has made eye contact with me and I can see his eyes locked o... more »

Online bidding for the print is ongoing until July 20th. If you are interested in this wonderful piece of art, please visit us at http://www.themoultonbarn.com/jeff-clow-print/ and place you bid.

Low Clouds at Schwabacher
© Jeff R. Clow
A couple of years ago this was named the most scenic location in the USA by one of the well known photo magazines...and it has always been one of my favorite spots in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Sadly, the National Park Service has closed the access road to this location due to budget cuts. That removes access for a large majority of visitors who can't hike the 2.5 mile roundtrip during their visit.
My guess is that those of us who love this spot would gladly pony up a few bucks to access it .... but apparently the decision has been made in stone.
Really sad to think that only a very small fraction of the millions who visit Grand Teton National Park will be able to visit this in the future....

One of the amazing things about Banff National Park is that views like this exist right alongside the highway....no hiking or backpacking necessary.
Why don't you plan to join +Hans Wobbe and me as we take a small group of photographers to all our favorite spots in this magnificent area? We're headed to Banff National Park for a photo tour that begins on September 19th.....
Oh - and one other thing. Our photo tour has cash prizes of $500, $250 and $150 for the best photos taken during the tour. If you were trying to figure out how you could swing it....how does that sound for an additional reason to join us!

Shadow Man
© Jeff R. Clow
My youngest son - back from college for the holiday - worked on this shot with me for a long time. There were so many elements - the air bubbles, the body positioning, the light and shadows from the waves above - that we had to coordinate and get "just right".
But after many attempts, we finally crafted a shot that we both thought captured all those elements well...

Reflection on a Nation
© Jeff R. Clow
Something I wrote a few years back that I always reread - and recall - on Memorial Day:
"The Vietnam Veteran's Memorial (The Wall) transformed me from a tourist to a humbled, thankful citizen in a period of a very few minutes.
The 58,000 names inscribed - of the United States men and women who died in the Vietnam War - overwhelm a person very quickly. Panel after panel, name after name. Hispanic surnames, Native American surnames, and hundreds of names that reflect the diversity of our nation - and the diversity of the sacrifices that were made on our behalf.
But the tears started flowing as I walked back toward the Washington Monument along the East Wall and stopped short in my tracks.
I then really saw the Wall for the first time. I saw the men and women...the visitors at this moment.... ... more »

Would you have used the branches .... or avoided them?

The Towering Figure in my Life
© Jeff R. Clow
Thank goodness that I had - and still have - a towering figure in my life that served as the quintessential role model for me. I salute her - and mothers everywhere - today.

The simple fact in my case is that the foundation my Mother built below me during my formative years has supported everything that was later erected upon that firm ground. And I ... more »
