Last week +Euan Semple  wrote an interesting post about his experience working with managers in companies:

"Working, as I do, mostly with managers in their forties and fifties I would say that 90% are unsure of themselves online. Yes they are on Facebook and Linkedin, and some of them have Twitter accounts, but their use of these tools is predominantly passive. They are consuming rather than creating stories."

I think that the pressure that these managers feel is mostly due to the nature of today’s blogging style: while when I started 10 years ago blogs were mostly lists of links with short notes, today blogs are almost always collections of short essays. Like this one. And usually, with no links.

* Skype's security team is now part of a larger Microsoft security/privacy community. Bureaucracy and breadth vs. focus and depth?
* Skype is a 20% bigger target.

Looks like Amazon now have my book Organizations Don't Tweet, People Do on their "shelves"!

Something I hadn't realised previously was that my publisher John Wiley & Sons is able to do special runs of the book with individualised company inserts such as a frontispiece or introduction. They are also able to publish individual chapters, or selections of chapters bound in special editions. A number of clients are also buying in bulk which is great as the book was primarily written as an influencing tool for those trying to get traction with the social web in big organisations. I'm on a quick trip to London. For the first time in a while I'm not taking any Mac with me: just my iPhone and iPad. Most of all I don't have my backpack, which means no accessories, no spare business cards, no spare HD, no cable and adapter for every country on the planet, no little pharmacy, no spare pipe and tin of tobacco, no notepads... Wonder if life is sustainable with so little stuff. ;)
