Summary: Most people don't vote for Trump because they are poor or fear becoming poor, but because they are racist assholes.

The same can be said of Germany's AfD.

As a reminder, there is apparently a very large number of people who appear to believe that the "real racists" are those who discuss racism not just as part of an unfortunate historic past, but as an active force in modern society.

The implication being that racism would just somehow magically vanish if people stopped talking about it.

And it's this time of the month again - the time to examine the hat-related expenditures of the Trump Campaign!

And it appears that August was a good month for hats - the Trump Campaign spent $419,861.61 on hats in that month alone, bringing the total for the campaign up to $2,580,410.84! Yes that's right, ladies and gentlemen - the Trump Campaign has so far spend more than two and a half million dollars on hats! Can they top this? You betcha!

Yeah... some of y'all need to learn the difference between talking about race and racism - THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING!

Firstly, get the hell over whatever internal hoo-ha makes you cringe at the word "race". When I say it, I am referring to the fact that not everybody on this planet has the same colour skin. It's a fact - we don't all have the same colour skin. Some people are lighter, some are darker - but it goes way beyond that. There are medical and anthropological differences (some very well documented) that only affect people from certain regions with certain physical characteristics. We are not all exactly the same - GET. OVER. IT.

Secondly, I personally am always going to talk about race. Why? Because frankly, we all have to - how else are the rest of you going to know what it is like for me?! Also, how else am... more »

Yeah... some of y'all need to learn the difference between talking about race and racism - THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING!

Also, how else am I going to know what it is like for you? If you don't want to know or don't want to tell me, uncircle me, defriend me, stop talking to me or whatever - no hard feelings.

Thirdly, racism is about treating people differently because you think the colour of YOUR skin means that you are better than them because of the colour of THEIR skin.

I'm just going to copy this verbatim from a HO post:
"I mean, just take a moment to think about the whole monkey gestures thing that I get here.

Firstly, none of you [white Europeans in this case] will ever experience that stuff.

Proof that we are different - the colour of my skin makes people treat me different. (sic)

Secondly, basically what people are saying when they do that is

Your skin is dark, so you must be closer to a primate than I am

Which is obviously a rampant load of horseshit, but it still hurts my feelings that people think I am closer to a primate than they are JUST because of the colour of my skin - that shit feels awful. I know it isn't true, but still though..."

If that doesn't make it clear to you, then honestly, I don't know what hope there is for you.

Lastly, if talking about race bugs you, I'm willing to bet a fair sum of money that it's because you've never had to do it before. If you're lucky enough believe that other people have never been/will never be called names or passed up for positions or, my personal favourite, that other people have never watched multiple people literally recoil in horror when they see you just because of the colour of your skin, then you have the luxury of not having to talk about race. May you continue to live in your deluosional reality bubble for eternity and not have to interact with the rest of us, because you piss us off. :P___

When I lived in Columbus, Ohio for two months, I was frankly appalled by the city's transportation infrastructure - public transportation didn't cover large swathes of the city, footpaths only covered single neighborhoods with no connection to the rest of the city, and the only bicycle path I discovered was primarily recreational and didn't actually lead anywhere useful where you needed to go for your commute or shopping. This approach to transportation infrastructure which is utterly dependent on private cars is obviously hugely wasteful - in both energy consumption and space requirements.

Of course, changing this is not something can be done overnight - it is, in fact, the work of decades. But it can be changed, as the Dutch experience shows. And it can be done in small, incremental steps. Focus on relatively small aspects you can do within a few years - a new bus route, a bicycle path that actually has non-recreational uses, and involve yourself in the planning stages for new neighborhoods to make sure they are walkable and their paths lead to other parts of the city. Every small step helps.___

I've finally gotten around to adding another page to the GURPS Index - this page lists all published Imbuements both in alphabetical order and by type (Defensive/Enhancement/Transformation/Transportation) as well as all Perks and rules variants that I could find.

If I missed anything, please add it to the wiki!

On September 3rd, I finally took the time to visit the famous "Beleuchtete Wasserspiele" here in Kassel - an event where massive amounts of water are released from an underground cistern and pour down a series of artificial waterfalls. These usually take place on Sundays and Wednesdays during the warmer months - but on every first Saturday in the month they take place by night, and that's what I hadn't seen before.

Beyond that, if you know someone with suicidal tendencies, go and listen to them. Don't judge, don't try to give them advice unless they ask for it, just show that you are there for them.

“Cities and counties are not mentioned anywhere in the U.S. Constitution and that’s important,” Russell said of ACCE’s attitude toward pre-emption. States’ attitudes, he reasoned, were as follows: “We have created you for a specific purpose, and you guys are overstepping what we created you to do.”

...so much for the principle of "local rule".

I'm just hoping for good news. I need to hear something positive soon or I'll be losing a lot of faith...

And yet another reason why we can't have nice things... Wikileaks has completely lost the plot.

There have been a number of stories suggesting that Wikileaks may have been subverted by Russian interests, and this most recent story only give more credence to that concern.

In this case, Wikileaks appears to have deleted a couple of leaked State Department emails which could potentially be embarrassing to Russia and Syria. The emails showed a very close financial interest between Russian oligarchs and the Assad regime, which raise questions of what Russia's end goal is in the ongoing fighting in Syria.

When the missing emails were brought to light, Wikileaks threatened to go after the journalists who noticed the discrepancy. Not really the reaction you would expect from an organization that claims to be dedicated to transparency.

'One staffer said, “There were some people who were treating it as a full-time job. I suspect those people were quite astonished when the pay didn’t come through.”'

They should think of the exposure and valuable work experience they were getting with this job!

Thought of the Day:

If I were a mad scientist, breeding a species of freshwater octopuses would probably a high priority for me.

'As reports of police overreach and brutality in the black community become more and more commonplace in mainstream news, many black people are feeling a strange combination of frustration and relief — relief because the shootings of unarmed citizens have become part of a national discussion, but frustration because, time and time again, we hear the same dismissive and deflective responses from white America:

“There must be more to the story.”

“If you people would just do what you’re told.”

“Cops have a hard job.”

“White people get shot too.”

“He was just another thug. Good riddance!”

“Why do you people make everything about race?”

“What about black on black crime?”

“All lives matter.”'

It should be easy to see why hearing all this is... tiring for those who are the most affected. So before sentences like this come out of your mouth and your keyboard, please do your own research first before badgering those who are the most affected - they already have enough to cope with.
