Every now and then, YouTube's Related Videos features hands me a gem I never would have found otherwise. This is one.
I normally don't go in for hyperbole in video titles, but this one almost deserves it.

Audio Reel
And here is the second part of my last weeks work, an audio reel of sorts. This demos some of the midi orchestration and instrumental work I've done over the last few years. I've also used it as an opportunity to display some of my digital artwork and photoshopping, something that I wish I had more time for.

Performance Reel
I've spent the last week going through videos, sorting audio files, generally getting organized. It feels a bit self-indulgent, but I needed a way to share what I do with people I communicate with outside of G+ land. In any case, this is a Performance Reel of sorts, demonstrating some of the sounds I create, and the tools I use to create them.
It was a fun thing to create, a good reminder that, even when I feel like I'm spinning my wheels, I am slowly accumulating a body of work, learning new skills, and having a grand time along the way.

Welcome to the An Audience With Show a regular feature on The Hangout Show where we feature many popular and rising musical artists.
For this show we will be joined by the awesome Lisa Marshall
"Lisa Marshall is a Austin, TX. female singer/songwriter influenced by Rhythm & Blues, Soul Stax, Chess, and the days of classic Soul. Weaned on Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Mavis Staples, to name a few, her passion for the strong vocal stylings and music of the women of the classic R&B sound is evident in her songwriting and vocal performance. ."

Hey guys, I wanted to share with you these 6 thoughts on how to present your work to companies, people you'd like to collaborate with or someone you simply admire.
- If you can't explain what you do in simple words, what makes your work unique, or how you intend to develop a certain project, most likely it's not clear to yourself either. Picture yourself into a conversation because the process of figuring out how to actually explain it might even clarify the direction for the project itself.
- When talking to an artist you admire, emails or phrases like "you do exactly what I'd like to do, can you please help me?" even when expressed in the most genuine way, are unrealistic. Each person, project and situation is unique and can hardly be replicated, even for that person at a different time in life.
- Document your work with videos. Create original... more »

Record a cat moving in sync to dubstep, you're almost assured a few million views. Once you're done watching that (not being a critic, I've watched it too), check out one of the greatest guitar players of our time, with some incredible bass playing by Dominique Di Piazza. At only 40,000 views, I'd like to think of this as a hidden treasure.

How long it will remain pulsing,
Vibrant as a river? Who knows?

Just As Well To Be Well
Still going through old music files. Here's one from about eighteen years ago... good God, how does the time fly? Dream West, my friends, my family. I like to think back on what we did back then as barely controlled chaos... some times it was completely out of control, but always musically intense and pure.
The saxophone player is Dan Martin, a gentle soul and incredible musician who left this world at an early age. Rarely a day goes by that I don't think of him.

A Les Misérables Medley - One Man Orchestra!
"After watching the musical and the movie, I fell in love with the emotional and powerful songs found in Les Misérables. Working off the orchestral score (sorry no arrangement this time!), I transcribed nearly every part to be played on violin, viola, and piano. Therefore, everything you see and hear in the video is performed by me (over 40 tracks)." The songs in the medley are:
I Dreamed a Dream
Bring Him Home
On My Own
Do You Hear the People Sing

How to Find Direction
At some point or another in our lives, we lose direction.
Most of the time, though, we know where we want to go, but we don’t have any clue how to get there.
This morning while I was getting ready for work I listened to an interesting presentation given by Professor Renata Salecl which “explores the paralysing anxiety and dissatisfaction surrounding limitless choice.”
In the talk, Professor Salecl talks about how being faced with a choice can make us feel. A classic example that I related to was sitting at a restaurant and ordering a bottle of wine. Salcel tells the story of a colleague that becomes anxious each time he is faced with this task. If he chooses the most expensive bottle, his friends will think he is a show-off, if he chooses the cheapest, his friends may perceive him as a cheapskate. So, as a general rule, he always choos... more »

You don't know my heart
You don't know my pain
I can't follow your tomorrow
If you leave again
I have placed my heart
I have kissed your face
You have taken my tomorrow
To a painful place
Reappear
I wrote this song today after a few discussions I've had with close friends. The lyrics may not make it evident but the song is about returning to the familiar, even if it's in a den of pain.
Sometimes we go back to someone who's hurt us, time and time again, because it's familiar. We allow hurt to reappear or even invite it back because we're used to it. We know those dark places and feel oddly comfortable remaining complacent in the dark.
I'd encourage those who dwell in emotional pain, to dig deep and allow yourself to understand why you choose this path. Find a way to pause in order to ... more »

The Art of Asking
A thought provoking article on the power of asking, accompanied by a great TedTalk of the same name, given by Amanda Palmer. I think it's a testament to the generosity of others, the support that can exist out there for anyone who is pursuing their dreams, and for those who find the courage to ask for help.

The Art of Asking
Really inspiring article, accompanied by a really inspiring TedTalk. This is about the power in asking for help, in interacting, in being personable and who you are while doing the things you enjoy. It took me about twenty minutes to get through all of this, and I expect to watch and read it all again.

7,000 votes can change a person's life. It's free and takes 30 seconds.
My name is Donna Bell. I live in Denham Springs, La. I’m 49 years old. I was in one car accident, June 28, 1979. I was 15, the wreck left me a quadriplegic C3-C4. Unable to move from the shoulders down.
I have never had a powered wheelchair, because of the cost of a lift and van. I have had only a manual wheelchair with my family lifting in and out of the car.
Only since I’ve been paralyzed I have taught myself how to draw and crochet, by mouth, with the encouragement of family and friends.
I would very much appreciate your vote

Who are You?
'The world only knows how you act. The world only hears what you say. Are your actions and words in line with who you are? With who you want to be?'
I just covered a piece of paper with those words 'who are you?', and then with every descriptive word I could think of to define who I am. Now that it's done, I look at them and realize that how I define myself is far from reflected in my day-to-day. 'IT Professional' did not once find it's way onto the list. With the exception of a few friends, my musical circles, my family, I am not who I appear to be. I am, in a sense, living a lie. Or, at the very least, have been walking around an unanswered question, for the last twenty years of my life.
I have any number of excuses for why I continue to live this lie, most revolving around time and money. I have walls that I h... more »

Here's my "Track of the Week"
A friend mentioned something to me his mom used to say, "Mama gonna whoop you" So, I used the title and went from there. I knew this Blues/Rock song had to be fun with a title like that.
All vocals and instruments performed by me. Recorded and mixed with Logic Pro on a MacBookPro. (That's a "laptop", for the non-techies) ;)

Breathe and Let Go
Here is a rough version of my new song, 'Breathe and Let Go'. I want to dedicate it to +James Olmos, who was a continual support and inspiration over the weeks where I struggled to finish this. The idea behind the song also came directly from my conversations with him. Thank you, friend.
Lately, I have been on this path of trying to write tunes that are more marketable, more hooky, more 'main stream'. I learn a lot in the process, but it rarely goes well when I try and tailor my thoughts for 'success'. With this, I took a step back and tried to write something that was just 'true', meaningful to me, therapeutic in it's process. It's about the silence that lies just beneath the chaos, the peace that we can find in our breathing, in sitting with our thoughts and letting them go as they rise and fall.
