Oh, Google+, go home! You're absolutely drunk and high at the same time!
As if my headache from the weather wasn't enough, G+ 'greets' me with this new interface and makes my attempt to upload a new image to my Nature album unnecessarily tricky. Top that with not a clear indication of how to upload and share a photo.
(Tried it, but it gave me a description box about 100 px wide and after saving it, it didn't appear on my wall.)
Oh G+... why? Why?

Skypaint

Hey, G+
We had a lovely sunset here yesterday and I captured it... well... let's just say I have about 20 versions of it, all panoramas. 4 I found acceptable, so I'll be sharing three more in the next three days of the week.
Promise: the other ones look much better than this one! Also, I switched to bigger output resolutions for panoramas, now 1680 px wide.
And now I'm off for the last preparations for my finals tomorrow. Hope you like it and have a nice day!

Black Rage

Hey, G+
Last night we had a pretty lovely storm here. It's really good to see the weather finally going a bit random (in a completely different way from the stuff like snow in April).
In spite of me being really tired after a very important exam, I decided to hunt for some silver arrows in the sky. These are some of those I managed to catch. Hope you like it, have a nice day!

Old School - Eszterházy Károly College

Hey, G+
This good-looking building is the absolute house of mental terror. My "beloved" college. I am currently sweating like hell since in two weeks' time the finals are here and it is utter madness. I will not even go into details.
I hope you are in the lucky situation of enjoying your days!

The school is located in Eger, Hungary. Have a nice day!

STILL MOVEMENT

Hey G+!
My first big timelapse recorded on the 28th of April (just a couple of days ago).

840 images recorded during 70 minutes with the 1000D connected to a laptop.

Make sure to watch in the best quality that your display enables (720p or 1080p) and on fullscreen! : ) I hope you enjoy it! Have a nice day!

Fire, fire

Hey G+
It seems that the sunset season is finally here! Also mosquitoes... bastards... anyway! It fills my heart with joy to see scenes like this (and also knowing that I shot the same pano about 5 times, just to be sure).

One has to hurry but at the same time, take their time when shooting panoramas of sunsets. Raise that ISO like there is no tomorrow. Hope you like it, probably a few more to come from yesterday! Have a nice day!

Days end

Hey, G+!
This seems to be my first image of the Spring season. I have to say, I had much conflict in me yeseterday when I processed it. Many things I didn't like, but I somehow managed to find peace and tweak it so that it's acceptable.
I've never had such an image before and the moment just came, so I tried to capture it. Hope you like it! Have a nice day!

P.S - As you can see I'm still here. Things are starting to lighten up. I'm not saying I'm promising anything but I'll try!

High and wide

Hey, G+,
Reporting in. Yesterday some friends and I went to the Mount Nagy-Eged near Eged, Hungary. After a long and exhausting walk (or rather, hill-climbing at some parts) we arrived to this place and were avarded with this view that you can see below.

You know when people say 'You have to be there to really feel the vast view' ? Well, this is no exception. The field of view is amazing and the height is scary and breath-taking at the same time.

I seem to have picked up a thing for enormous panoramas after the upgrade of my PC. This baby was stiched from 24 images, and the final, cropped version is about 10.000 × 4.600 pixels big. That's about 47 megapixels. Have a nice day!

Not dead, only resting

Hey, G+.
I have finally finished a big part of the last semester in my 2-year training and as Spring stretches it's arms after a deep sleep, I start to do things again.

More importantly, my new PC is finally assembled: 8 GBs of RAM and two cores of a 3.0 GHz CPU working on the insanely complex and huge images I tend to tinker with.

The one you see below was shot in the Summer of 2011. However, back then I did not have the reactor of a PC that I do now.
This monster image was stiched from 24 individual RAW shots, then processed. The final (cropped) version is about 9000 × 5900 big. More than 50 megapixels!

I hope you like it and you are all having a wonderful Spring day!

Dark

Hey, G+!
I played around a bit with my all-time favorite image and came up with the result below, which I could not have get without some useful textures provided by the man himself: +Baldur McQueen.

It is by no means meant to be something you'd hang on your wall, for it's really rough, but I thought I'd might share it with you. Mind you, I don't often do BW images but I thought it would look cool. Have a nice day!

Warmth in the Sky

Hey, G+!
Weather forecasts predict that tomorrow (Thursday) a great amount of arctic air is about to enter Hungary from the North. This is probably Winter's Last Stand, as it is said to bring a considerate layer of snow. After a few days, maybe a week, it should clear away and Spring will take it's rightful place here around us. Can't wait!

I found an old image from 2011. It's about 1,5 years old, and now I processed it. I think it came out pretty nice, but I'll leave the judging to you. Have a nice day!

The Cathedral of Eger

Hey, G+!
After several months, I'm coming back with a new HDR image for you all. It took me many-many-many hours to process, mainly because my slow PC (upgrades should arrive soon).

This is the Cathedral in Eger, where I currently study (I'm not there at the moment, I'm sitting comfortably behind my desk at home). Also, I don't study in the actual building, I'm very close, however, the school is just a few steps away. My studies should be over by the end of May.

Using new techniques with much more attention to detail and avoiding overprocessing. I hope you all like it! Have a nice day!

Eurovision

Hey, G+!
This is something I'm usually not interested in, but I just read that Hungary may send the winner of one of the latest "talent-shows" (which we have an irrational number of for such a small country) to the next Eurovision.

Well, I don't watch any of these shows (no TV at all, as a matter of fact) but word spreads fast and reaches you wether you like it or not. So, if we are really to send this one (won't write the name, I have absolutely no intention to advertise him...) to the next Eurovision, we already lost. Have fun competing, other counries!

Metamorphosis?

ORIGINAL SHOT BY +Csaba Mocsonoky

Whilst looking at a gorgeous bumble-bee shot by +Csaba Mocsonoky (see link to original image below), I noticed that one of the flowers looked quite like a bird, getting ready to spread it's wings.

So - naturally I wrote to Csaba and asked if he would be OK with me processing the image in a way that would put the focus on the bird.  Csaba, a perfectly wonderful dude, allowed this and sent me the original RAW file.

Now.... I know Csaba (being quite the Photoshop Expert) would have done a much better job himself - but I've done my best and here's what I came up with.

Isn't nature amazing!? ;-)

It's something

Hey, G+!
Here is one of the images I use to experiment with my own different Adobe Camera Raw presets. This one looked just right with one of them.
Actually, about 95% of the editing took place in ACR, but honestly it could have been closer to 100% if I wanted it. So here you go, I hope you like it.
Have a nice day!

Hint: in case you're wondering how I managed to get such a shot in the middle of middle-european February, I didn't. It's from last Spring. ;-)

Still not good enough...

Hey, G+! Reporting in.
I see this scene every now and then from my window and now I managed to capture it. This was by no means meant to be a fantastic image, the shooting and the processing is rather cheap, but I wanted to share this with you all.

The rare times I see something beautiful that Winter can provide. However, I'm not happy with going to school tomorrow morning in this kind of weather. That's nearly 4 hours of travelling each day(!) just to get there, and then home after.
4 precious hours that I could spend sleeping doing useful things... oh well...
Have a nice day!

This is how frighteningly crazy the weather have been lately here in my area...

Just one day difference (almost exactly 24 hours). No words to describe.

Note - despite the fact that you can't see much of the foreground in the picture on the bottom, believe me that 99% of the snow you see on the top image is completely gone.
Also - these were by no means meant to be price-winning images, just for demonstration about the situation here!

I spiced the up a tiny bit, but if you don't believe me, I can post RAWs!

Have a nice day, probably something more like the bottom image! ; )

Can Photography be taught? - My thoughts on learning Photography in a "Photography School"

Hey, G+! This is something that has been on my mind since I don't even remember when.
First of all: I'm not a writer, not a blogger, not a big thinker. These are by no means expert thoughts, these are simply my thoughts.

It may sound like a simple question. A yes/no one. But whenever the topic comes up in personal conversations I always say "No, it can not."

The simple question suddenly gets much more complex: do you need schools founded for this very purpose? What can be taught in such a system?
Obviously a school has it's own limitations: you have a group of people (let's call them students, regardless of age) who want to learn how to take good photographs. Each of them has a different viewpont of their surroundings(som... more »

Hey, everyone.

Despite the fact that I've said that I'll try to be more active, so far it's not working out as much as I expected. No surprise, as I've not been shooting for a while now. This is not permanent, however.

I am in the process of upgrading my PC with the help of a good friend so that maybe I can produce some interesting stuff in Photoshop and videos. I am really waiting for the weather to get better, Winter depresses me quite a big degree - I have no motivation to step out of the house (literally).

What I am doing, however is a little composition-project, like my old Zombie Apocalypse-thing that I shared a while ago. Something like that, but with a different theme (no zombies this time).

A new lens is on my list too for this year. I'd really like to get my hands on a (non-used) 70-300 from Tamron. That will take some time but... more »

Plus One Collection - UPDATE #5 - Who is in print book + FUNDRAISING

You voted very soundly for including more artists in the book, and we're going to do just that. Here's your list of who's work is going to be included in the print version of the book - http://plusonecollection.com/2012-artists/

Now that you know, we really need to up our fundraising. We have just 9 days to make print book possible, but we're only 55% there. Quite a mountain to climb.

YOU CAN HELP HERE - http://www.indiegogo.com/plus-one-collection-2012

As you asked, we're making cheaper version of the book available at $99 or $125 if you live outside US. You can also contribute directly, aka "open contribution." Tokyo's First Snow of 2013 - January 14

I hadn't planned to go out today at all... well, ok, I had made plans last week to meet up with a few G+ friends to shoot the "Coming of Age" activities today, but when I woke up, it was pouring rain so we canceled the photowalk.

I fully expected to stay home and go through my backlog when I got a call from +Claire SK , telling me that it was snowing!  I jumped up and pulled open the curtains... only to find that it was still raining in my part of town.  However, sure enough, an hour later I peeked out again and snow was coming down like the dickens.

I decided to revisit my earlier plan, and head out to Meiji Jingu shrine again to see what I could see.

Unfortunately, I only spotted a couple of ladies in the traditional kimono garb (and only got one of them in a photo because they werede... more »

Szerelem

Hey, G+!
This is my submission for this year's #PlusOneCollection2012 . A fantastic project by +Ivan Makarov and the G+ community from all over the world for the good of others. Learn more here - http://plusonecollection.com/about-the-book/

The image is titled Szerelem which is Love in Hungarian. Something stormy and beautiful. My father came up with the title and I found it perfectly fitting.

It was shot on the 22th of May, 2012 from my window on a gorgeous stormy night. While others hid in their houses with windows closed, I stood in my room with an open window and faced the storm with my 1000D on the tripod. One of the best nights from last year. I hope you all enjoy it. Have a nice day!

About two years ago I happened across this lady, this is Vivian Maier, a nanny who lived in Chicago but her secret talent was photography. For over 50 years she would spend all her spare time taking and developing photos, no one knew this until after her death when over 100,000 of her images were uncovered. I soon became obsessed with Vivian as I still am and for fun I asked my Instagram buddy's if they thought they could re-create a Vivian self portrait, I was expecting a few to try but instead I got over 1000 images back. I'm going to start The Vivian Maier Project here and if any of you would like to try please do, all you have to do is get as close to what Vivian did , just tag them #vivianmaierportrait Gav. http://www.vivianmaier.com/

Just one more thought

G+! I checked CircleCounts.com and saw that while I didn't really provide much content in the second half of the year, I am still the #3 followed person from Hungary.

I am extremely humbled!

I promise that I'll have more stuff to share in the next year, probably after Winter passes, but until then I'll have some different, but still interesting (I hope) things to show to you (if my awesome friend can upgrade my PC).

Probably my last post this year, but who knows. Have a nice day, and new year!

So it's that time of the year again...

... when people take some minutes to look back and recap all the good and bad thing this year has given to them.

This is something many of us did last year - a 'Best of' collection of images (last year it was 11, now it's 12) from the past 366 days.
While I don't have much to offer, and I struggled a bit to find the best 12, I hope you will enjoy taking a look at this humble gallery.

What I managed to accomplish:
 - Shots of starry nightscapes
 - HDR portraits
 - Shots of lightnings (though not for the first time, but much better now)

To this absolutely fantastic community, I wish a successful and happy 2013! See you with our best 13 images a year from now! ; )

My first Photoshop Timelapse

Hey, G+!
Again, something I did while sitting comfortably in front of my PC.
Some months ago I killed some time by creating a starry night sky scene in Photoshop. I only posted it on Facebook, but I will share it here later.

The image, if I remember correctly took about 15-20 minutes to finish, I tried to be slower, but more precise.

The original image looks better than this one, but I only thought about recording the process after I finished that one. I'm not a digital artist, nor a designer, but the results aren't too terrible. ; ) Have a nice day!

Make sure you watch it in the highest resoultion you can, 1080p is available!

The music used in the video is for non-profit purpose only, so I think it's not that big of a deal if I share it here.

The Hungering Dead

Hey, G+!
When not out shooting (snow is almost completely gone, though), I still tinker around in Photoshop with old images and sometimes things come to my mind.

The Hungering Dead (99% of Z-movies have 'dead' in their titles) - is my take on creating apocalyptic and 'zomipocalyptic' scenes from my images, whenever I feel like doing some crazy and overcomplicated (you really don't want to know how many layers are in the PSD) compositing.

The base image is an unprocessed (apart from lens-correction) RAW from April, 2012. The brutalized composite is from a few months ago.
Have a nicer day than my two good friends here.

Merry whatever you celebreate (if you celebrate anything at all today)!

Hey there, G+!
To everyone, I would like to wish a great day, regardless of what you happen to celebrate or do today.
Since I loved Christmas (that is what happens here in Hungary) as a child, I really do miss the old 'Christmas Spirit' which made those days of the year so magical (and by Spirit I mean family).
Time passes, loved ones come and go, but usually and unfortunately, mostly go.
This is not the most happy (or merry, if you like) time of the year for me but I try to make it better for myself and others.

Which is why I decided to share this great circle of photographers (a thing I did from time-to-time) for you to explore. It's not really up-to-date, but if you don't have it already, it's high time you did! Have a nice day (and anything that remains of this... more »

Reporting

Hey, G+ people. (This is going to be long, you might want to get a cup of whatever, if you are planning on reading it.)

I don't know how much return-posts I've made in the past few months, but I think this is the real deal. I'm here.
The way I introduce G+ to people who have never heard of it before is that 'It for those who have something interesting to share'. This, of course is from a perspective of a sharer. You can gather hundreds of people in your circles so you can have interesting content to look at all day. So why am I mentioning this?

I've been away. Really away. The most important reason being that during this half of the school year (semester, I think that's what you call it?) my productivity has fallen significantly. Thus I had nothing really interesting to share. I wouldn't like to show myself here if I have... more »

To any willing-to-help tech-brains out there

Hey, everyone, here is my story/problem
Just purchased two sticks of 4 GB DDR3 Memory (1333MHz).
My motherboard (http://bit.ly/WlhsiD) can use two sticks like this, I checked that in advance.
However, my CPU (http://intel.ly/WlhpmK) seems to support only FSB 800MHz, so this could be the cause that the sticks don't work.
I got told that the motherbouard will run the sticks on default 800 MHz, even if it's higher.
I also got suggested that I should update my BIOS in order to solve the problem. However, on the manufacturer's site the instructions are for Vista, not for Win7 (which I am running). I know that most software don't care whether they are run on or Vista or Win7, but we are talking about BIOS here, the difference could be lethal.

So the simple question is - does it really matter? Should... more »

Just grabbed this from my desktop. Hopefully, I'm seeing it for the last time. Ever.

Chirstmas is coming early this year as for the upcoming weeks I've scheduled a major RAM-upgrade. I can't wait!

Burning in The Walking Dead fever

Hey, people of the G!
Not a lot of activity lately, I won't even go into the details of the reasons (nothing bad here, though). I'm spending my nights in front of my PC, watching the new episodes of The Walking Dead every week and playing around with old images to see if I can re-create something like the intro of that fantastic show. I'm kind of in an editing-mode now rather than shooting.

One of my friends here held an umbrella a gun like he was about to shoot something while we were exploring this little house, looking for things to... well, shoot. I have a camera, don't I? This was back in March, but got to the editing part just recently.

Maybe entirely new shots coming this weekend? I sure hope so. Have a nice day!

Previously on AMC's... wait, that's not entirely correct...

Hey, G+! The Walking Dead's 3rd season just kicked off last week (actually the Sunday before), and I am so excited about what's going to happen next! I've already seen the two episodes that are out.

So yesterday I decided to make something that's similar to the opening sequence (which is totally awesome). The technique requires one or two textures at least, I got my images from a free site, cgtextures.com - which I can't recommend enough.
The base background is one of my older shots from earier this year.

The whole effect can be "thrown" together in a couple of minutes, doesn't really take much effort after you know how stuff's done. I hope you like it!

Hey, G+! Another three-image micro gallery. Assembled from three of the firework-images I took at the 20th of August, which is a national holiday here in Hungary. Have a nice day!

I am going to eat you

Hey there, G+! Long time no see, eh? Here is a lovely little eight-legged creature (more commonly known as a spider) from my friend's front yard. This one is from a couple of weeks ago.
The great Garden spiders are gone from my window. Their 'Summer vacation' has ended. I don't think I can specify this one but (Correction: after taking a second look, this does look like a Garden spider, only smaller) It looks like every spider does - beautiful and a bit scary. They are the perfect predators, after all. I hope you like the image (and spiders).
Have a beautiful eight-legged day!

P.S - Thought I should mention that apart from watermarking this was processed entirely in Camera Raw. Love that stuff.

Technical support, please

Hey, G+! A friend of mine has a certain problem with his YouTube account.
You see, his old account with all his videos is linked to his Yahoo profile.
We have been trying to 'disconnect' YouTube from Yahoo, and add it to his new Google profile, but no luck.

So two problems here:
One - disconnecting YouTube from Yahoo
Two - adding old YouTube to new Google account

Note: moving videos between YouTube accounts is not an option.
Thank you!
