I would like all of my followers and friends to get involved in a little photography project that I am currently running. What I would all like you to do is download this RAW file of mine

http://db.tt/9tchiovx

and basically I would like you to edit it in anyway you see fit, you have complete flexibility on what to do. When you have done, please email me to

info@aaronyeomanphotography.co.uk

Please keep the file around 2mb or less please. The reason why I am doing this is that its just a little experiment to see how other people interpret my images and how they compare to mine. I have about 5 or 6 entries so far but I will reveal everyones in a blog post in the next week or two. The more that get involve the better :-). Thank you to those have done it already

Just had a thought, I have decided to run a competition for the next cover photo of this group.

As long as its London related, it can be of anything, use your imagination. Closing date is 6pm BST next Friday so you have a week to do it.

Post it here and tag it #londoncovercomp  so I can see it.

Enjoy and Good Luck!

Skelton's Lodge, North Yorkshire, England

You may have thought that I had abondoned my Google+ account however I just put it on hold to concentrate on other things and I see that Google have also improved few things so I thought I would revisit :-)

This is Skelton's Lodge, an old, abandoned ruin of a Hunter's Lodge in a small village called Levisham, North Yorkshire. I met up with Mark Hepples  during my latest trip up North for the Bank Holiday and Mark... more »

Scarborough South Bay, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England

This was one of the images I was really looking forward to editing when I had taken it especially after waiting about 8 minutes for the exposure.

I am getting more and more practice in with my LEE Big Stopper with better results each time. This was also taken with my new lens, my Sigma 10-20. I took this out and about in London and hopefully got some good images which you will see in the next few days.

Now back to this image. I... more »

Scarborough South Bay, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England

Gosh it has been a while since my last upload and for this I apologise. I've been away on holiday and I thought I would work hard on working through my portfolio and editing so I can get a few images ready to upload and of course get out while the weather is grand to get some new images.

Since my last upload you may remember I was thinking about getting a new lens, well I got it. I got the Sigma 10-20 and this image was taken with it. I am very pleased with the initial results and it feels a very versatile lens as many of you said it would be :-). Thanks to all those who advised me.

St John's Wood Underground Station, London, England
This one has been sitting on my computer for a little while now. I must have edited this one 4 or 5 times but never happy with it until I thought I would give another go at it and everything just came together with it. This sort of reminds of the styling and effects in the film 'Sin City'. As most of you know with me I like to try and show you the dark and eerie side of the London Underground and hope I have managed to do this with this image :-).

This is an HDR image however had a problem with noise in this one so before blending togther in Photomatix I removed the majority of the unwanted noise in Noiseware Pro and the imported the images into Photomatix and the result is alot less noise. I then... more »

St Pancras International Station, London, England
Another from St Pancras International railway station. I have tried to capture from a viewpoint often not seen and I was also experimenting with my fisheye. I really like how this has come out and the lines do line up quite well, only thing I am disappointed with is the back wall at the top of the image doesn't quite line up perfectly with the centre of The Meeting Point statue however I think its the statue thats not quite dead centre, I can't remember but a revisit will reconfirm it. This was original edited in Silver Efex Pro 2 then I did a selective colour on the red bricks which are part of stations of a certain age.

Thank you for all your comments yesterday with regard to my publication in Digital SLR... more »

Digital SLR Photography Magazine Publication - Reader Showcase
As promised in yesterdays photo upload here is the good news that I would like to share with you all. Few weeks ago I was contacted by Digital SLR Photography magazine as they were interested in publishing one of my photos. As you can imagine, any photographer getting asked to have their image published is great and I was honoured to be asked.

It was my Eastbound Westbound image that I took at Shepherds Bush Underground Station that they were interested in and it came as bigger surprise when I got the magazine it was double page spread :-) Was also a nice feeling that some of my fellow photographers and followers on here and Twitter had seen it and recognised it as mine even before reading the... more »

Moorgate Underground Station, London, England
Wow what a busy couple of weeks and I first must make an apology to my regular visitors and followers. Sorry I haven't uploaded an image in a while, I have been so busy with other commitments and work (and also the Olympics), all being well I will be able to get more images in the backlog uploaded this week. The vibe in London over the last two weeks has been simply amazing and being lucky enough to get tickets to one of the events I feel really privileged and honoured to watch great athletes.

Anyway this is from Moorgate Underground Station, I quickly took this as I was running for a train home. What I liked about it was the emptiness and was quite eerie. The post processing I tried to reinforce that and hope it... more »

Palace of Westminster, London, England
Still practicing with my Lee Big Stopper and this is one of my best ones so far. Still not quite how I would like it I feel but getting there. I have just got a Sigma 10-20 and so hopefully will get better luck with that lens than my Tamron, I am just waiting on a 77mm Lee wide adaptor to come in the post so I can use it with the Lee system.

The biggest challenge I found with this photo was the fading light. I took it when the sun was starting to set in February and calculated the shutter speed and in previous atempts they looked completely wrong and unexposed. I forgot to have a longer shutter speed to counteract the fading light. This image was still slightly underexposed but managed to salvage it I feel and it probably one... more »

Shepherd's Bush Underground Station, London, England
This is Shepherd's Bush Station, one of the only few stations on the network where there is a central platform isle. The Central Line on the London Underground is one of the busiest lines on the whole network. From tomorrow this line will see a massive increase and influx of passengers using it as it serves the Olympic village and also it is the opening ceremony tomorrow. Without this line the Olympics would struggle to run so it is going to be an interesting few weeks here in London when the Olympics are on.

I really hope that the Olympics and the transport logistics go according to plan and to any of my followers who are here in London visiting or coming to the games or both :-), here is to London 2012... more »

Flamborough Lighthouse, Flamborough Head, Yorkshire, England
Going for a slightly different style and break from the 'norm' today. This was taken last year and just not got round to editing it. I really like taking images of Flamborough head as it is one my local lighthouses when I visit back up North.

On this night was lucky enough to get some nice pastel colours in the sky which add to the atmosphere of the image.

This place is always worth a visit if you get chance but take a steady tripod as it can get very windy up there. :-)

St Pancras International Station, London, England
Really wanted to create a proper moody image for Monday and hope this is it. This is a Non-HDR image and have been to this location before at St Pancras International station but from another perspective -

http://www.flickr.com/photos/turnipfarmer/7344402820/in/set-72157623306715096/

What attracted me in this image and what I didn't capture too well in the previous image in at these stairs I took was the impressive red brickwork and also the chequered arches, how many people using these staircases would miss this. The light coming from the door at the top was perfect for this type of image to give it that moody and gritty feel. I just played around the adjustment curves to achieve this effect and... more »

Gants Hill Underground Station, London, England
Going for a colour upload today, well almost colour :-). This was taken at Gants Hill Underground station and is such a stunning station architecturally. Probabley one of the only Art Deco style stations on the whole network and is generally very quiet so you get chance to take some images where people aren't going to get in the way of the image (just like this one). If you get some spare time take a visit with you camera to this station, you will not be disappointed.

The inspiration for this image was actually the underground mice that you see on the underground. Have you ever seen them? They normally only pop out in very quiet stations or when major stations are very quiet in the the early hours. I am sure they... more »

Canary Wharf Underground Station, London, England
Sorry I haven't uploaded in a while, been so busy with work at the moment. Anyway, I thought I would redo the previous image as it was annoying me every time I looked at it and wanted to try and figure what was wrong with it.

Well I found out what I did wrong along with your help and comments in the previous upload. The distortion was completely wrong on the old image so corrected it before I joined it together in Photoshop and this was the result. A lot more natural looking and the perspective feels just right now I feel. Feels more balanced. Also cloned out that woman on the right hand side which I never noticed before.

What do you guys think? Better or worse or the same?

Right guys I want your honest opinion on this photo. At the moment for me, it feels like a 'Marmite' image. Sometime I look at it a really really like it and then come back to it 10 minutes later I don't like it but not sure why. I have tried my best to fix the distortion but I think this is the best its going to get.

This is a vertorama made up of three images, my first ever vertorama would you believe. Stitched together in PSE9 and then B&W conversion in Silver Efex Pro 2 and then tweaked in LR4. This is an image of the the smaller, less photographed escalators in the station. They tend not to be as busy and so get better photo opportunities with less people getting in the way.

Manzoni – Museo della Liberazione, Rome, Italy
Right going for a colour image upload today just for a change as last few uploads have been B&W, just fancied a change.

Went on a recent visit to Rome and just going through the images at the moment. Sadly I didn't get much chance to photo the underground stations but this is one that I got.

I did find that the Rome Metro doesn't appear to be that photogenic as the London Underground but I think I would have to go back to Rome to fully make that decision. Line A of the Metro is the newer and upgraded part of the Metro whereas the other Lines are a little run down with old trains however Rome is putting loads of money into upgrading the infrastructure of the other lines.

This HDRi... more »

St Pancras International Station, London, England
I thought I would go for an Olympic themed image today as the Olympics are just around the corner here in London. I have been fortunate enough to get two tickets however as some of you may heard getting the tickets in the first place was very very difficult unless you wanted to pay lots of money.

This image is a bit of an irony really in that if it wasn't for this man, Sir John Betjeman, London St Pancras International, would not exist today. He saved the station from demolition during the 1960s (Beaching Act era) and now its one of the most important rail hubs in the UK or even Europe. The Irony really is that it will probably bring thousands of passengers for to the 2012 Olympic games and without the station,... more »

This is an old photo that has been on my computer for over a year, just not been sure what to do with it until now. I've got it to the point where I am happy with it, I must have processed this photo a dozen times before this and not been content with it.

I would have liked the chap to walking in the middle and then would have almost perfect symmetry which I like in a photo but never mind.

What I liked about this was that he never even noticed me and I took 3 or 4 images and he just walked on by. This image is also synonymous of London as those who have been to London or commute in will know what I mean. Waterloo Underground Station, London, England
I decided to go for a photo walk yesterday into London. Sadly it didn't seem a very productive day as I first originally thought it would. I didn't really come away with anything substantial, oh well you can't always have good days, I presume all photographers get this from time to time?

This original intention was to go into London with my Lee Big Stopper and do some long exposure work as the conditions back at home looked perfect. However when I got to London, the clouds had slowed down some what and the sky was a little too bright. I was only getting 5-15 seconds with my big stopper and its not long enough to show the moving clouds. I got a couple which might be ok but we will see.

Anyway, I... more »

Bakerloo Line Train at Maida Vale Underground Station, London, England
Still going through the archives at the moment and thought also this would be a colour upload rather than a B&W upload. I am also planning to get out soon with my camera as I want to shoot some new stuff.

Anyway this is an image of a Bakerloo Underground train. When I got on this train I noticed that it was really empty and so got my camera out and took a few images. It is really rare to see a tube train like this so I was really lucky. It was quite hard trying to take photos like this when the train is wobbling around everywhere so I had to wait when it got into stops to get sharp images.

Sir Nigel Gresley at Railfest, National Railway Museum, York, North Yorkshire, England
A little bit of an unconventional image this morning. I'm still not sure if I like it as to what I had in my mind at the time hasn't really come out in post processing. It took a lot of processing to get this to how it is but maybe its one of those photos that will grow on you, we all have them don't we?

I do have a colour version and maybe this would be better to use than B&W? I want you to be as honest as possible with your views and comments on this image.

Greenwich Foot Tunnel, London, England
Still delving into my archives whilst I spend some time editing and processing my Rally photos from the weekend just gone :-).

I'm not quite sure how I missed this one. I have photographed this place many of times and always enjoy going here. The tunnel seems to go on for ever and ever, its on my list to visit now with my fisheye so I can see what results I can get with that lens here.

I tried a different way to process this image and I think the hint of blue/green adds a real cold and empty feel to it as normally the tunnel has a warm yellow glow to it.

Again done in HDR to bring out all the details on the tiles and the dirt. No noise reduction as I wanted to keep the grittiness of image. Once... more »

What a busy (extended) weekend we had here in the UK with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, we certainly know how to party :-) Hope you all had a good weekend :-)

Green Park Underground Station, London, England
When sorting out my photos yesterday whilst doing a bit of spring cleaning :-) I came across this photo again and had a thought of a different way to process it and it also gave me the opportunity to use the selective colour in Silver Efex Pro 2.

I just tried to keep it simple with only one colour just coming out. I feel it compliments the B&W really well. Also another thing I always like when I visit this tunnel is the sheer length of it. When taking photos it creates this illusion that it just goes on for ever and ever. I really like the vanishing point and leading lines.

Anyway, I hope all my followers are well. I will try and catch up with your uploads today, some great photos I see that  have... more »

Grosmont Railway Station - Sir Nigel Gresley LNER Class A4 4498

This is a re-worked photo that I felt I could edit it better and this is the result. What I have always liked about this photo is how natural the Train Driver and Secondman behaviour is. Taking in the sun and enjoying a nice cup of tea before continuing on their way.

I always like photos of steam trains as seeing scenes like always reminds me of how it once was on the UK network.

The Sir Nigel Gresley for those who don't know much about trains is the same class locomotive as the more famous train named Mallard which holds the world speed record for steam trains. It achieved 126mph in 1938 on Stoke Bank on the East Coast Mainline.

A little history for you there :-)

30 St Mary Axe (AKA The Gherkin) and St Andrew Undershaft , London, England
This is another from the archives from a trip into London with fellow friend and photographer Mark Hepples (AKA Camel Kegs) feel free to check out his photostream.

At first all those many months ago now I first discounted this photo as everytime I processed it I never felt it was right. That is until I got Silver Efex Pro, all this was done in Silver Efex Pro 2 with a little help from LR4. The original photo I never knew those streaky clouds were there and Silver Efex Pro 2 does a great job in bringing them out.

The only thing that I'm not sure about it the noise. Not sure if its too much or not. I have not purposely added it, this was from the camera. I have... more »

Bank-Monument Underground Station, London, England

A little bit of experimenting going on here and I quite like the outcome. Bank-Monument is one of my favourite stations of the network and this is a photo of the travelator there. I have taken static images of the travelator before but thought I would try one actually on it. I had to have a steady hand but manage to get one that was in focus of the few images I took :-).

Let me know what you think, is it a 'Marmite' type image? ;-)

The Bridge of Aspiration (The Royal Ballet School), London, England

Just having a look through the archives this morning and came across this one from Open House London last year. I'm not sure how I missed this one in the archives, oh well here it is.

I was able to take a photo of this awesome bridge due to the annual Open House London event. Basically all the buildings that are not normally open to the public open there doors for one weekend a year giving you some great photo opportunities and this was one of them.

For those who are interested in going this year you can order the book with all the buildings that are going to be open now at 2011 prices, I think its £6.50 and it will be delivered to you in August.

You wouldn't... more »

Bank-Monument Underground Station, London, England, England

Well this is my first processed image using Nik Software Silver Efex Pro 2. You will have to forgive me if I haven't got the processing quite right, it took me several attempts to get this right after uploading once already to Flickr but not being quite happy with it, I think I have got it right. This is a non HDR photo and wanted again to go for the high-key look.

Its such a powerful piece of software and is great for B&W conversions, all I need now is Lightroom 4 to sort out the 'Edit In' bug. This is where you try and export the photo from LR4 to be processed in an external converter (Silver Efex Pro) but when you click on it, it does nothing so this makes my work flow really... more »

Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Redcar and Cleveland, North Yorkshire, England

This is by far away from my normal stuff as possible but I do enjoy trying something different. Me and my mate fellow photographer Mark decided to go up to Saltburn as I had seen photos of the pier before.

This was taken last November and it was really windy and cold however really enjoyed my time here. It wasn't too busy so got time to take some photos. I wanted to do some LE stuff however it was far too windy and my tripod would have fallen over (note to self get new tripod!) and also another reason why I didn't want to try was that my camera bag nearly rolled down this hill after getting blown off the seat while I was taking this photo, phew that was very lucky!

Embankment Underground Station, London, England

This is a really cool tunnel that I like at Embankment Underground Station. The blue wavy lines as the stairs descend down the hole always catch my eye. Its a staircase that doesn't appear to be used much but did manage to get a passing passenger in my photo which I think adds a nice touch. I have been here before but not with my fisheye and again with the natural curves and lines already there, the fisheye does a wonderful job capturing them.

Oh on some other news, I have finally got round to buying Silver Efex Pro 2. Really looking forward to getting it, it should come today all being well. I got it from the UK Amazon for £129 which is far cheaper than anywhere else at the moment so if you are after... more »

The British Museum, London, England

Another one from the British Museum here in London. I really like how this place converts into B&W really well, it does bring the best out in it. I tried to do a different perspective on this well taken photo point and with the use of my fisheye it has created a natural frame from the stone arches for the QE2 Great Court. Everytime I look at it I like it more and more.

Anyway, must dash off now :-)

Poplar DLR Station, London, England

This is technically not an Underground station but a light railway system we have here in the London that goes through the financial district of the Docklands.

It is another revisited place for me as I want to try out my fisheye and so glad that I did as the lighting creating the shadows was perfect. I think this was the only part of the day the sun actually made an appearance :-).

The thing that always captures my eye here is the long tunnel and sweeping curves of the tunnels skeleton structure, just seems to go on and on for ever but as said before just love how the shadows appear when the light is just right.

I was lucky too I manage to time it when people were not coming up and you might just be... more »

Bank-Monument Underground Station, London, England

Bank Underground station is one of my favourite underground stations on the whole network, I always enjoy passing through this station. However what I do find is that it is one of the most confusing stations due to its size, its very big and always amazes me how they fitted it underground. Also with all the upgrade works they are doing it always looks different everytime I pass through. People who use underground stations or those for the first time can easily understand how easy it is to get lost in one.

Hence the reason why this photo was called 'The Labyrinth'. Well I hope you are all having a great Friday so far and hope you all have a great weekend.

Amateur Photography Magazine, Landscape Photographer of the Year Competition 2011

This is my 15 minutes of fame :-). I got an email the other day from the organisers of Landscape Photographer of the Year, their website is www.take-a-view.co.uk to say that my photo that got runner up in the Network Rail Lines in the Landscape award in last years competition would be published in the UK magazine Amateur Photographer Magazine alongside the winner and other runner up photos from that category.

As you could probably tell I was over the moon with this as this is a little bit of a milestone for me as I have never had a photo published in a magazine before. The image is also in the book that LPOTY publish every year which I am going to buy soon (I know I'm bit... more »
