Some one/group has an anti Humane Society "watchdog" website.

It looks fairly innocuous when you first look at it. Just a collection of publicly available financials and stuff with the appearance of being pro-animals and just holding a big NGO accountable to it's mission. Then if you tease it out a little it appears to critique the Humane Society as far-left "animal rights" group, compares it to the much more controversial PETA and lists a bunch of animal shelters saying the website doesn't distinguish between kill and no-kill shelters but the spot check I did was all kill shelters (spot check not definitive).

I didn't set out to make a point here really. I saw that +Sean Bonner posted a cool pic of Doris Day wearing a shirt that said "Be kind to animals or I'll kill you" and I looked for the pic and her animal rescue... more »

Hey there G+ Banjo Players,

Thought I'd share my circle of Banjo Players since it's been a while. It's still growing and still producing some pretty great conversations. It might be topping out a little at just shy of 350 folks. I guess we'll see.

So Niblet, our dog went into Grand Mal seizures on Saturday. I rushed her to our emergency vet clinic (http://www.vcahospitals.com/five-corners) who got her stabilized. They're always awesome. But they recommended a specialist, Seattle Veterinary Specialists. Niblet started seizing along the way there but we made it.

SVS diagnosed her within 20 mins, at least the cause of the seizures if not the cause of the cause, super low glucose levels. Did the tests over the following two days. They call us at every shift change with an update and call us with updates if anything changes. I've never felt more informed and confident in a medical team. They blow the doors off any number of human medical teams.

Anyway, Nibs just got out of surgery. I got called by the internist, the surgeon and the front desk as she was going under. After surgery the surgeon and the anesthetist both called me... more »

Learning the banjo and other related things:

I'm not much of a blogger and all but the other day while going through an emo-like work week that was as soul crushing as a work week can get (and I love my work generally) I spent some time in the car driving to and fro and thinking about music.

When I was a little kid I wanted to be a musician. I went as Peter Criss for Halloween three years in a row starting in kindergarten. I had a Mickey Mouse Club drum set. In third grade I started taking drum lessons from this great drummer in his early 20s. Took a few lessons then, as was popular for musicians in the late 70s, he OD'd and I kinda lost interest in the drums. Weird for a little kid to try to grapple with that one.

In 4th or 5th grade I decided I wanted to learn the banjo. I have no idea why. I lived in Brockton Mass. I should have wanted to learn to play... more »

My union dropped off rain ponchos to the folks at Occupy Seattle today. I'm hoping to be able to show up on Saturday.

But anyway, it appears that the Banjo Occupation is proceeding full steam on both coasts. I'm hoping my friends at Occupy Iowa don't forget a banjo or three.

Ok G+ banjo folks.

Closing in on 60 banjo players after a few days. Some pleasant, cool conversations happening between some - which is awesome. I've got to see videos of some of you playing your stuff - which is also awesome.

Anyway, if you make sure you keep your own banjo circle and we trade them back and forth every once in a while as we come across more folks... this might turn out to be a great thing.

Thing I've noticed about the people in this circle that I've had the chance to interact with is that there's a lot of different levels of playing and styles, very little pretense, super interesting posts, and really just a plain friendly group. For a beginner like me it's really nice to chat with people playing at a wide variety of experience levels. Learning a lot just from absorbing the banjo-talk. :)
