Hey all, I help run +chewelah community and youth foundation We run local 'Game Nites' open to the public with an emphasis/focus on helping Youth 1st, then Families.
We feed the youth, give them good safe activities to keep them off the streets, tutor them, mentor them etc.
We're experiencing explosive growth and soon will be State Registered as a "Non-Profit".
Once that happens, we want to expand our very small donor pool [we had 100 kids this past friday, all fed, we run 2x a week, Wed we average 50, Fri we average 85. That costs a LOT, we have one principal donor plus 2 minor ones]
We are looking for tips on how to expand our donor pool. Business, civic groups and private individuals would be nice, but how?

So I would really like to work a Satellite. From what I read, SO-50 or AO-7 are the most "common" [not just because this month's QST mentions them]
I tried them both today, but didn't hear ANYTHING! for AO-7 I put my Kenwood TS2000 in to "Satellite" mode ... after some tinkering I got it to the right frequency's and scrolled up and down with no luck.
For SO-50, I had one channel on 2m, the other on 440 ... both in FM, turned the rx dial and nothing ...
For 2m I have a good j-Pole ... I do mean GOOD! As in Simplex over 60 miles away on low wattage. For 440, I have a decent home brew 5 element yagi.
Any tips? Pointers? Howtos?

Could use some help with this. I want to work an Amateur Radio Satellite but so far, all I've done is FAIL!
I have a Kenwood TS2000 so I have a Satellite mode, I've tried SO50 and AO7 [so50 is an FM mode, ao7 is transponder/ssb mode]
for 2m I have a good jpole, for 440 a decent home brew 5 ele yagi. any suggestions on HOW to make this happen?
I'm in DN18 btw [my ham friends can figure out where I am]

Wednesday was hard. We had some harsh criticism levelled at us. Some was inaccurate to say the least, all discouraged us some.
Then, we got our resolve back ... we showed our tenacity in keeping up with our hard job. [Reaching out to those who need help in our community, regardless of who they are or where they are. We focus first on the youth, then the entire family ... it gets messy to say the least, and paints a target on us for sure]
Then came Friday, we had it set that we had a team of guest cooks [from a church one town to the north of us] and honestly, we had a fear it wouldn't go well.

A new report by the United Nations Children’s Fund, on the well-being of children in 35 developed nations, turned up some alarming statistics about child poverty. More than one in five American children fall below a relative poverty line, which UNICEF defines as living in a household that earns less than half of the national median.

Now that we know a GOP congressional aide misleadingly edited — intentionally or not — Obama administration emails on the Benghazi attack, one wonders if he or she will face repercussions. There’s some precedent here. Former GOP Rep. Dan Burton used to hold Darrell Issa’s job as Chairman of the House Oversight Committee and used it to aggressively go after Bill Clinton on a host of controversies of various degrees of merit, much as Issa is doing now.

This is the most up-to-date Medicaid Expansion map. Under the Affordable Care Act, individuals making less than $14,856, 2-person households making less than $20,123, 3-person households making less than $25,390, 4-person households making less than $30,657, 5-person households making less than $35,923, and 6-person households making less than $41,190 per year will receive free healthcare (Medicaid) if they live in one of the blue states on this map. If you live in a red state and qualify, you will not receive free healthcare, but you will be exempt from having to purchase health insurance if you don't already have it.

Is this the "normal" battery life ingress should be draining? Any tips on how to increase the battery life? This is the battery life on an At&t GS3 with 4G on ;) ingress was the only thing running. I also toggled airplane mode on and off every so often when ingress wasn't being used, which wasn't very long

So sometimes it hard ... real hard. I know that not everything any of us do is completely without any problems etc. I know things go wrong.
My leadership style, is stoic and subtle. I want to understand all sides before acting. [and I don't waste time getting my answers] I want to look at it rationally, reasonably, moderately, balanced and with the big picture in mind!
Often times, criticism is spoken by people who don't have the full picture. Who don't know all the ins and outs. Other times, people, not knowing the nuances, level their criticism about this or that not knowing it's already being handled.
Sometimes, people bring others in to it that don't need to be involved, or blow things out of proportion. Sometimes, by the critics actions, it can make the entire team, and the leader, look bad. Make us look inept, incompetent and/or ineffectual.... more »

Anthony Cymerys is a barber. He is 82 years old. Every Wednesday he brings his chair, his clippers and car battery to power the clippers to a local park in Hartford.
He then gives haircuts to the homeless. He doesn't charge them a dime.
All they have to do is give him a hug.

sigh I had "one of those days/nights" It started real well, then had a leader request a meeting to address some things [that I had already planned to address]
because this other leader brought the things up before I did [my style, approach stoicly, then subtly address the situation making adjustments until it's solved] it served to make me look inept/incompetent.
I don't think they meant it like that, but they also mentioned having talked to some other people about this an that [one's who didn't need to be brought in the loop as they aren't involved] which made me [and the other top tier leader] look bad.
Then things calmed down, we did some repairs, made the food, had no youth problems, made my already planned adjustments [which went off flawlessly by the way] but then, after dinner, it got bad.
