Earlier I talked about the history of food, Italian Zuccotto and Catherine de 'Medici, now come with me into the future. This project commissioned by NASA to an engineer is incredible. The nutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, fats ...) are put into 3D printer cartridges, dehydrated so they can hold on for 30 years. Then the printer stratifies them and gives them the forms making them attractive and edible ... The project is for Mars missions that should last 15 years. Look at the video if interested.
But there is one thing I do not understand ... I believed that stays in space beyond 6 months are not compatible with some important functions in our body!

Prima ho parlato della storia del cibo, dello zuccotto e di Caterina de' Medici ora vi faccio fare un salto nel futuro. Questo progetto commissionato dalla NASA ad un ingegnere ha dell'incredibile. I nutrienti (proteine, carboidrati, grassi ...) vengono messi in cartucce per stampante 3D, disidratati così possono resistere per 30 anni. Poi la stampante li stratifica e dà loro delle forme rendendoli appetibili e commestibili ... Il progetto serve per le missioni su Marte che dovrebbero durare 15 anni. Vi conviene dare un'occhiata anche al video.
C'è però una cosa che non capisco ... io ero ferma al fatto che permanenze nello spazio oltre i 6 mesi non sono compatibili con alcune funzioni importanti del nostro organismo!

Interessante questo articolo del quotidiano La Stampa. Sembra che la nostra Caterina de' Medici non abbia insegnato ai francesi solo l'anatra all'arancia ma anche lo zuccotto. L'autrice dell'articolo sottolinea come lo zuccotto sia tramontato. In effetti non se ne vedono più nelle pasticcerie. Lo espone qualche gelateria ma non si tratta di zuccotto. Ne ricorda solo la forma. Lo zuccotto è pieno di crema pasticciera!

Di ritorno dall'orto da poco. Mio marito ha appena fotografato queste foglie di salvia giganti e profumate. Ho una sorpresa per voi nei prossimi giorni. Foglie di salvia = tartine ???!!!

After reading the very beautiful sentence that I've just posted before, I had the curiosity to know something more about Aymara people, and so I found out that they have a strange process to preserve their frost-resistant potatoes for years. Process that is related to the area where they live. When they pickup their potatoes, they expose them to the very low night temperatures in the Andes and then transfer them to the intense solar radiation during the day (at 4000 meters above sea level, there are high energy radiations). They get a dried product they use for a lot of dishes including chairo, the Bolivian soup made from these potatoes, beef meat and many other vegetables.

Dopo aver letto il bellissimo e profondo detto che ho appena pubblicato in un altro post, mi è venuta la curiosità di sapere qualche cosa di più sul popolo Aymara e così ho scoperto che hanno un procedimento stranissimo per conservare anche per anni le loro patate. Procedimento che è legato alla zona in cui vivono. Intanto le loro patate sono una varietà resistente al gelo. Quando le raccolgono le espongono alle bassissime temperature notturne dell'altopiano andino per poi trasferirle di giorno all'intensa insolazione (a 4000 metri di altezza sul mare le radiazioni sono ad alta energia). Ne ottengono un prodotto essiccato che utilizzano per tante preparazioni compreso il chairo, la zuppa boliviana formata da queste patate, carne e molte altre verdure.

Fava bean season, finally! We Italians like fava beans very much and use them in many ways, for pasta sauce, soups, frittata, focaccia, appetizers ... but the must is fava beans combined with pecorino cheese.
This is an easy-to-do recipe to serve in many occasions. Think of this dish in a picnic ...
Here's the ingredients for 4
1kg (2.2 pounds) fava beans in the pod
200g (7 ounces) Pecorino cheese
Preparation
- Clean and prepare fava beans.
- You have to choose fresh, young fava beans in the pod.
Besides they must be firm and filled out along the entire length.
For the youngest beans (so you needn't the second peeling) choose the pods with the smallest bumps.
- Peel the pods and put apart the individual beans.
- Prepare the pecorino cheese.
Remove the peel from the cheese and cut it into bite-sized morsels.

In addition to his many science fiction novels, he is known for his blog “Beyond the Beyond” which he is been writing for almost 10 years now and which is hosted by Wired.
