A Mesquite tree in bloom, found in a camping site at Agua Caliente State Park in the Anza Borrego Desert in California. The Mesquite trees have quite a reputation for their longevity, the environmental stability they bring, their healing properties, and nutrition values of their beans.

This is a desert road somewhere on the Sweeny Pass Road, in the Anza Borrego Desert State Park, in California. Everything is green and in bloom.
This is a crop from a pano shot, twice the width. Too bad G+ can't display panos properly. For the photographer in you, this was shot at F/5.6, to give some depth of field to the picture.

A Parry's Agave in bloom. This agave works its way 10-30 years until it blooms, and it only blooms once, then it dies. The parent plant perpetuates through offshoot "pups" that take over the family business.

The Cholla is one vicious cactus - never get close to one, the spines are sharp enough to go through the soles of your shoe and into your feet. Interesting enough, some birds find it possible to build their nests in the middle of a Cholla bush - where no predators can reach.

Water Striders - they are skittish, and that's the closest I could get to one - this is a 100% crop from the original shot. They walk on water by virtue of superficial tension of the water - their legs are hydrophobic, so they never get wet.
